I’m not going tomorrow but will go one day next week with a list .I have a couple of things to return too . If I don’t get what I’m looking for then we will go without.

1forAll74 · 01/12/2020 16:49

No way,we are due to have some snow here in two days. (Herts) But trudging around shops is my worst hate anyway.

YouAreAmazing0 · 01/12/2020 16:51

I'll be going tomorrow. I've missed walking around the shops browsing

Doingtheboxerbeat · 01/12/2020 16:51

I know so many people who have never been online, don't have a smartphone and don't have debit/ credit cards and pay for everything with cash . I ordered something online yesterday (with wowcher admittedly) and I'll be lucky to get it before Christmas, I could have of course done my Christmas shopping before , but I just didn't have the money for all of it at the time.
Online shopping isn't for everyone, some just don't have the choice.

nitgel · 01/12/2020 16:52

I'm going to west end not just for shopping but also to get out

lillylemons · 01/12/2020 16:53

No way will I be heading to the shops anytime soon shopping in December is a nightmare this year can only be worse. Most My the Christmas shopping is done need a few bits but will get them online

Fairyliz · 01/12/2020 16:54

Can I put in a small request for people to pop into their local charity shop? I’m a volunteer for a small charity and they are on their knees financially.
We also have some lovely sparkly dresses at a very reasonable price just in case you want to dress up over Christmas without spending a fortune.

Tenyearsgone · 01/12/2020 16:55

@nosswith

I think it will be more 'manic' on Saturday.

As for the person who wants to go to Primark, other better clothing retailers whose supply chain does not lead to deaths are available.

When I want your advice about where to go shopping I'll ask for it.
OffredOfjune · 01/12/2020 16:56

Yep. DH and I will be because we want to. We're moving in January so want to scour charity shops in case we lockdown again and can't get to them.

formerbabe · 01/12/2020 16:56

@Sparklingbrook @MrsJBaptiste

What you gonna, wear? Jeans and a nice top? Or more dressy? Let me know if you wanna have a few vodkas round mine before we go?! Grin

PurpleDaisies · 01/12/2020 16:57

I’m in tier three. Nothing I need is essential so I’m not going.

Absolutely will be charity shopping! I've also volunteered in one before, and feel quite passionately about them.
Doingtheboxerbeat · 01/12/2020 16:57

To deal with queues, I plan on wrapping up warm , might even buy something hot and sweet to drink and watching a couple of things I'll download from Netflix.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:58

Maybe my Christmas LBD as it's not getting an airing. Grin

We can have vodkas but we must be in your garden 2 metres apart. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 16:58

I am Tier 2 by the way before anyone starts...

Hoviscats · 01/12/2020 16:59

I am going! Have done most of the big Xmas shopping online but have saved a load of smaller things to buy on our local High Street.

I will be doing my best to spend money in our independents and smaller chains that have been chomping at the bit to re open.

As someone at relatively low risk and in good health I feel like actually it's my job to go and help support these businesses so that we have a high street to go back to when this shit show is eventually over. I am pretty sure that the many, many retail staff would also like to make sure they have some chance of keeping their jobs and unless we visit the shops and spend money then that is going to become increasingly unlikely.

If you want to go to the shops then I say go for it!

RedToothBrush · 01/12/2020 17:02

@Brighterthansunflowers

I avoid the shops in December anyway

But this year you must be mad! Everyone in England hasn’t been able to go shopping for four weeks, there’s nothing much else open and it’s December, of course it’s going to be manic! I would expect either long queues or for it to be far too crowded to social distance or probably both

I avoid the shops in December too.

It'll be insane.

The Trafford Centre is just about the last place I'd consider going. They always have traffic problems but the new roundabout at the back by the Exhibition Centre is something else. It was taking 20 mins to get out, midweek at 11am in the Summer. No thank you.

I'd avoid the plague at Primark, er sorry I'd avoid Primark like the plague. The 24 hour opening is only going to add to the hype. People will go at 4am just because they can.

I REALLY need some shelves from IKEA. However its about the last place I intend to go. I've been a couple of times over the summer and that was bad enough. This week? Hell no. I've heard enough to put me off from staff.

And I would LOVE to go to the big garden centre with the amazing christmas displays. Its been open throughout lockdown but its been all over social media about how rammed its been.

Fortunately I usually do my Christmas shopping early and saw the 2nd lockdown coming a mile off so made sure I did all my shopping ages ago, so I don't have to go and I'll just have to wait for the fucking ikea shelves.

shudders

GameSetMatch · 01/12/2020 17:05

It will be manic tomorrow, next week hopefully will be less busy!

BBCONEANDTWO · 01/12/2020 17:06

I wish I could and go for a coffee as well - enjoy it OP.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2020 17:06

At least if you go to Primark at 4am it won't be as busy which is what we are supposed to be avoiding (large gatherings indoors). If it means that SD is easier then I am all for it.

MissCalamity · 01/12/2020 17:08

I need to go to the opticians in town for a check up, I could do with a few bits but if it's manic I'll just keep my appointment & then go home!

Meruem · 01/12/2020 17:08

I won’t be. My presents are are all sorted. I even have all the supermarket deliveries I need pre Christmas booked up. I do need to go and collect my new glasses on Thursday and have to brave the post office to post a parcel to my sister. But that’s it.

Bagamoyo1 · 01/12/2020 17:10

I live near a small market town and I happen to have a day off work tomorrow , so I’m going to go shopping and buy a few things. I don’t really need anything desperately but I want to support my local shops. I hate the fact that I’ve had to do most of my shopping online, inevitably at the big chain shops.

funinthesun19 · 01/12/2020 17:12

I’m going.

Not sorry.

HiyaMeAgain · 01/12/2020 17:13

I'm going shopping tomorrow. I need a few little bits that I could probably get on line, but I am trying to do my bit by saving the high street. After the news about Debenhams, Topshop etc, we need to save the shops while we can. It will be a very sad world if we have no shopping centres.
