To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

Although TBF on our bed I still use my luxury sheets

MikeUniformMike · 24/11/2020 18:38

Yanbu. And all the people talking about how it was only £12 are missing the point on the massive amount of fresh water waste and environmental damage going to new cotton that's worn for less than a month a year...
My winter quilt cover stays on the bed until February. It so thick, it won't dry in the house, and I can put up with being a slattern for the sake of the planet.
The rest of the year, I wash covers regularly.

ShinyMe · 24/11/2020 18:40

I've got a really nice red and white Scandi style set that I really like - with little snowflakes and deer and hearts and cottages, that kind of thing. I have them on the bed all through December and well into New Year. Like someone up thread said, if they bring joy and you can afford them and have space to store them, what harm does it do?

notafanoftheman · 24/11/2020 18:40

The ethical question is also disingenuous

No it isn’t, unless I was suggesting only buying high end Xmas bedding.

DrWAnkenstein · 24/11/2020 18:44

Like many others we have brushed cotton cosy winter bedding that is used over the colder weather. From Matalan/Primark.
It's lasted at least 5 years now and still going strong.

Idontbelieveit12 · 24/11/2020 18:46

I bought some fleecey bedding for my 3yo with penguins on. Thought i would get away with it being winter bedding rather than Christmas...

Biffsboys · 24/11/2020 19:01

My ds has an elf one that I’ve used for 3 years . Just gave in and bought this for myself yesterday

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.
Crystal90567 · 24/11/2020 19:03

I love my dc Christmas bedding. Makes waiting for Santa even more fun. I use it from when tree goes up to when tree goes down. Over a month. I launder /change it weekly and use normal bedding when it's in wash but ensure it's in place for the big day.

CountFosco · 24/11/2020 19:06

Christmas duvet covers is a step too far for me, although DD1 (12) thought it was a great idea. I do have a couple of Christmas teatowels and thought that was excessive.

MikeUniformMike · 24/11/2020 19:07

Mine was bought in great condition in a charity shop for £2. Can't get more ethical than that.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/11/2020 19:11

I love Christmas and have masses of decorations. I also have Christmas oven gloves an apron and drying up cloths that match the place mats and serving dishes.

I've never taken Christmas into the bedrooms though, so don't have special pyjamas or bedding.

LITHIUMcomeasUare · 24/11/2020 23:44

@notafanoftheman

Count me with the Scrooges. Not as bad as «my first Christmas» onesies and comedy jumpers but I’m not generally up with pointless consumption and buying stuff -made with slave labour to celebrate peace and goodwill to all men.
This.....

Pointless consumerism

DidoLamenting · 24/11/2020 23:48

@TheDogsMother

I think I may have been living under a stone as I didn't even know Christmas bedding was a thing Confused
Did you spot me there sharing your stone?
FredtheFerret · 24/11/2020 23:49

I love mine. Brushed cotton tartan stags will be adorning our bed for much of the winter. Goes on at beginning of Dec and makes me start to feel Christmassy. Also, I live in a draughty Victorian house and it's jolly cosy.😁

dhisreadingmypostsagain · 25/11/2020 00:01

@TheDogsMother me neither!! Mind you I still have no clue what the elf on the shelf means?

My DS are 16&13 so I'm assuming is something I just about missed.

RoseMartha · 25/11/2020 00:05

I see your point and I dont own any but i think you could use it any time of year if you wanted to. I quite like the idea as it is something special for Christmas time.

I have new home new life with my dc maybe i need to start a new tradition.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/11/2020 00:09

I think as long as you can get it washed and dried and back on on a day then go for it. It ruins the magic of it's a day of Xmas, a day of pink flowers, a day of unicorns, a day of Xmas

grassisjeweled · 25/11/2020 00:09

Definitely going to look into this -

He's an elf that comes alive at night time so DS, 5, has banned him from our house. We don't like things that come alive at night. Except Toy Story but they have to sleep downstairs

SleepingStandingUp · 25/11/2020 00:12

I've never taken Christmas into the bedrooms though, so don't have special pyjamas or bedding. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Poor DP

RightOnTheEdge · 25/11/2020 00:14

My dc have had Christmas bedding for a few years now and last year I got myself some.
Mine is a Christmas tree scene and it even glows in the dark which I'm sure a lot of you will be looking down your nose at.

I couldn't care less if it not "classy" 🙄
and its not "pointless" either the point of it is that it makes me happy! Smile

dottiedaisee · 25/11/2020 00:17

As a family we have never bothered.with bed linen .Christmas Tree and Decs have been good enough .

Babyroobs · 25/11/2020 01:26

Can't wait until Dec 1st so I can put our Christmas duvet cover on. It has lots of dogs on it and says " Bark the herald angels sing " !! It was dirt cheap in a mid year sale and will bring a smile to my face.

CuntyMcBollocks · 25/11/2020 02:15

If its warm and cozy then it will be on my bed for a long time. Just because its 'Christmas' themed, doesn't mean that you acanthus only use it for a short time. I wear my Christmas jumpers for months on end because they're warm.

CuntyMcBollocks · 25/11/2020 02:16

Acanthus??? Angry stupid auto correct
