All of it is a shit show but I'm not buying the 'innocent West wants freedom of speech' lines at all. That will only fool people who's only world view is via Western media.

This.

MrFish who's stopping you living without liberty and how exactly would drawing caricatures rectify that anyway? Are Muslims in France behaving in 'in your face' fashion towards non-Muslims, demanding liberty is given up and drawing caricatures of Christian figures? Of course they aren't at all, but goady Islamophobists will have it their way won't they.

I personally find this thread to be goady. Does that permit me to behead the OP or anyone who agrees with them, or even those who live in a vague vicinity of them them?

Alltheusernames you're trying it on. Off on a tangent that hasn't answered or related to anything I've said on this thread. You're the one speaking of beheading. I'm not responsible for your thoughts or poor attempt at pot-stirring.

It's what the entire thread is about. I'm not going off on a tangent at all.

@MaskingForIt wtf no we bloody don't blow people up, the few fringe lunatics do, how dare you tar us all with that filthy brush!

@Princessposie

Freedom of speech OP.
A concept totally alien to the stone-age savages who carry out these attacks.

Just to clarify

This whole thread is about whether offending or goading people will naturally cause violent reactions so should be avoided.

The problem with this train of thought is that anyone can claim to be offended or goaded into violence. The man who feels humiliated after being rebuffed. The person who gets dumped for someone else. The person who feels their religion is being mocked.

To go along with "if you're going to goad, then expect a reaction" is that no one would be allowed to disagree with the "correct" way of thinking. That means discussions like this would be illegal.

It's a slippery slope that we need to maintain a grip on.

They are lopping random people's heads off. That's a bit more than 'in your face' that's more face removal, along with the rest of the head. I suggest you start reading the Quran and follow some exMuslim channels on youtube. Apostate prophet, One Godless woman, Atheist Republic, Veedu Vidz, Ex-Muslims of North America, The Masked Arab, Abdulla Sameer, etc, will give you an insight and education that you are clearly lacking. Islamophobia, an irrational fear of getting your head lopped off for saying somethine a fascist thinks is offensive. I think Monty Python's Life of Brian covers offending Christians and no-one got killed over the 'head' of it.
WelcomeToManderley · 01/11/2020 17:07

@MrFish323

When you post things like that on here, do you ever consider that there are many Muslim women reading or how it must feel for so many people like you to have so much hatred towards them based purely on their faith?

And don’t come back with the “not all Muslims” bullshit because you’ve made it very evident in your post that you see Muslims and extremists as one and the same.

It’s not evident at all that the poster sees Muslims and Islamist terrorists as the same.

It is evident that some posters can’t make a distinction between Christians and the West. There’s no evidence that Christians are making cartoons that target Muslims, and it is nonsensical to say that Muslims would mock most of Christianity, given the status of Jesus is Islam.

Stripesnomore · 01/11/2020 17:29

In Islam.

Stripesnomore · 01/11/2020 17:31

The Last Temptation of Christ is a better example of a film that offended Christians than Life of Brian.
Fascist ideologies are back in Europe and want to turn us into a subservient hell hole from whence they came. In France they have freedom of speech. In Scotland the Scottish Nazi Party has removed this freedom to pander to fascists.

I didn’t know Nicola Sturgeon was killing Jews.

PhilSwagielka · 01/11/2020 17:39

@howsers

Although thinking about it logically if French is seeing a rise. A total of 687 anti-Semitic acts were counted in 2019, compared to 541 the previous year.

Surely this is because people are blaming Jewish people for other Jewish people's behaviour or perceived behaviour?

Israel.
blueangel19 · 01/11/2020 17:42

The thing is the cartoons are not the only problem. It seems that most things that are normal for Westerns can potentially offend. I do not get that if French people are racists or Islamophobic why there are so many people of this faith living there or wanting to live there over other places? Why has this got to this point? What can be expect going forward? It is all very nice to call everybody that ask questions Islamophobic but these are real concerns for many people.

WelcomeToManderley · 01/11/2020 17:42

@BuggerBognor

I think the point about Charlie Hebdo is that the ironic and pisstaking cartoon is almost literally an art form in France. They mock without fear or favour and don’t take kindly to being told not to.

France caused the suffering of millions of Muslims and people are still feeling the effects of their actions to this day. Why on earth would they feel they were in a position to mock Muslims? It’s shockingly poor form and reeks of superiority.

PhilSwagielka · 01/11/2020 17:42
@howsers

Jewish people are already bearing the "brunt"

Obviously anti-Semitic attacks happen and are awful, but you don’t see the whole religion and it’s followers being spoken about abhorrently due to the actions of despicable people e.g. Jeffrey Epstein.

A lot of people genuinely believe that Muslim = extremist views. They believe that Muslims condone the attacks because they want to dominate countries and this will help to achieve power. There were some posts on here earlier talking about before long there will be enforced hijab and banned dog walking as obviously Muslims are trying to curb free speech, take away rights and enforce their religious customs onto everyone else Confused

Muslims are being attacked due to the actions of individuals, which I previously pointed out is exactly what happened to the Jews in history. If a Jewish individual murdered someone (e.g. the German diplomat) then there was collective blame and hate, the Jewish community were held accountable. What Muslims are currently going through is nothing new but lessons need to be learnt from the past, back then everyone thought their views held against Jews were justified and out of “concern” too.
Actually, we do. Some fundie rabbi in Israel will say something stupid and people will go ‘see, this is what Jews think’. And of course we’re all in the pay of George Soros.

WelcomeToManderley · 01/11/2020 17:45

The Life of Brian cut scenes that were considered to be too offensive towards Jews because they didn’t want to unnecessarily upset people.

Goodnamesalltaken · 01/11/2020 17:45

I'm sorry but you have the right to be offended, but you do not have the right to murder someone. A random person at that too. FFS is this what we've come to, anyone who takes offence to something can go round killing people because of it 🤨

No. The French government caused suffering to millions of Muslims and Jews. Charlie Hebdo is not a government publication. Anything that holds itself up as sacred is what satirists will most think requires mockery. That’s the point of doing it. It’s about demonstrating that religion is not deserving of superior levels of treatment, but should be seen as banal as every other topic.

SharonasCorona · 01/11/2020 17:49

It was the cartoon with the bomb in the hair...

There was also one of Prophet Mohammed naked.

Can you give some examples? It seems to be France stopping Muslims living their lives in their faith (not allowed to wear hijab in schools/workplace, on the beach?
