So aibu to think that anybody that draws cartoons of the prophet is asking for trouble and to wonder why the hell they do it and risk been attacked in the most barbaric way why oh why risk it.

BrassicaRabbit · 31/10/2020 13:04

Perhaps the same reason that women persist in wearing skirts, having relationships with men, and leaving the house after dark?

itchyfinger · 31/10/2020 13:04

Cartoons take the mick out of different sections of society all the time, same as comedians. But its only the cartoons of the prophet which have triggered terrorist attacks. Therefore, it's not the cartoonists fault is it?

hetanom · 31/10/2020 13:05

92% say YABU OP, so might be time to just accept that you very clearly are.

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:06

I definitely see everybody's point and not been goady at all I just dont understand why somebody would risk been attacked like this.

OP posts:
howsers · 31/10/2020 13:06

Really?

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:08

You think not drawing cartoons will stop this?

ivftake1 · 31/10/2020 13:08

@Clappingforjoy

If you know that your actions will cause unrest then why do this. I wouldnt do this and risk been attacked.
It shouldn't cause unrest, and that's what people are standing up to.

So you stand for anything at all?

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:08

I do definitely get the point of not bowing to this.

OP posts:
howsers · 31/10/2020 13:09

@Clappingforjoy What do you think the UK gov should have done during the troubles?

PortiasPhantomPentanglePumpkin · 31/10/2020 13:09

I don't understand why religious fanatics murder, but they also know they'll get shot as soon as the police arrive so what's the bloody difference

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:09

I understand what your all saying because people have taken the piss out of the Irish for years but they dont go beheading people.

OP posts:
Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:10

I just think it's best not to provoke the fanatics

@Clappingforjoy What did the Jewish victims in the supermarket do to cause offence?

MaskingForIt · 31/10/2020 13:12

It is the thin end of the wedge. Will you start wearing a hijab out of fear of being attacked by extremists if you don’t?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 31/10/2020 13:13

Do you victim blame for other crimes or is it soley reserved for terrorism?

Why would anyone have an expensive computer, it's obvious someone will break in and steal it.

Why would anyone go on a pride march, its obvious that you'll be attacked if you're openly gay.

Why would anyone get drunk, its obvious that you will get assaulted if your guard is down.

Can't you see how ridiculous you sound?

To some our very existence & western culture is provocation enough so what do we do then?

Should doctors not perform terminations as they to have e been attacked by those using their religious beliefs to justify their actions

No of course not

No one should live in fear of others religious beliefs

missyB1 · 31/10/2020 13:18

I get your point OP and it was one of my first reactions too. I absolutely believe in freedom of speech but I’m not sure I support goading or deliberate disrespect. Was this goading? No I don’t think so, and even if it was there’s was absolutely no excuse for what happened.
But yeah I do get your line of thinking.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ― Edmund Burke

Never appease bullies. Never pay a kidnapper. Never choose who to obey based on how insanely violent they are. If you do, you will end up in a society controlled by the most evil people.
