Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

Local park has just installed adult and child swings so two seats in one swing! Bloody marvelous!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 30/10/2020 12:55

I love a good swing and will always go on them if there isn’t a queue. I find the best time is children’s tea time as they are quieter then. We should definitely have adult playgrounds - so good to feel carefree and as though you are flying.

Newfornow · 30/10/2020 12:55

If kids are waiting I can see your point. Otherwise not.
I have thought of the perfect job for you though.
Fun police.... putting up those signs at parks “12’s and under only”.

samiipeach · 30/10/2020 12:55

I love a swing. I also follow my kids into soft play to make sure they are ok, plus who doesn't love a ball pit! YABU - lighten up 💛

Choice4567 · 30/10/2020 12:56

@allfallsdown why would you not go in the soft play?!

Bluntness100 · 30/10/2020 12:56

Well he didn’t kick any kids.

I don’t think it’s right if kids are waiting but past that couldn’t care less.

MathsRocksMathsRocks · 30/10/2020 12:56

Swings were always my favourite as a child (apart from the 'American swing', which you don't any longer - 'elf and safety and all that!) and I've always gone on them as a parent now I'm an adult (as long as other children aren't waiting) with my DC.

Why not? Swings are great! It's sad when we lose the simple pleasures in life, OP, especially now. Relax - get on a swing!! Grin

I went to a toddler trampoline session the other day (actually under 4s) and the kids were constantly having to dodge dads leaping around and trying to do tricks. Highly annoying.

See I think this is different to an adult having a go on a swing. If the sessions for under fours then there's shoulda be a bunch of men hogging them doing tricks because their weight bouncing downs makes the surface unstable for small children walking and increase the chance of them ending under the feet of the men doing tricks. I'm surprised the organiser didn't ask them to stop because that's quite dangerous.

emilybrontescorsett · 30/10/2020 12:57

I agree with most of the posters my dd loved me to swing next to her, only if we were alone though.
I also love the zip wire, again only if we are alone.

Alicatz66 · 30/10/2020 12:58

I'm 54 ... I want some grandchildren so I can go on the swings again !!!! ...

BluebellsGreenbells · 30/10/2020 12:59

Alicatz66

Meet you in the park at 9Pm ... bring wine

unmarkedbythat · 30/10/2020 13:00

Unless there are children waiting to use them, I see no issue with adults using swings. Or going into soft plays. Life can be fun at all ages surely?

Alicatz66 · 30/10/2020 13:02

@BluebellsGreenbells ... will do ! ... sounds like a great afternoon !!

Alicatz66 · 30/10/2020 13:02

@BluebellsGreenbells ...evening !!!

Mokusspokus · 30/10/2020 13:04

Adult on the swing... Great.. Adult taking a turn with a waiting child... Utterly crap!!

zonkin · 30/10/2020 13:04

I go on the swings with my DC at the park as long as there are no other children waiting. Love a swing. Quite keen on a zip wire too.

Will agree with you there! Adult on a swing, all fine as long as safe and not making children wait.
Freddiefox · 30/10/2020 13:05

Oh it all depends, if he’s done f it because it’s fun. Or if he’s doing it to prove how wacky and ca.St he is. Often they are looking to see who watching this oh so wacky behaviour.

CatteStreet · 30/10/2020 13:06

What drives me mad are the parents who insist on encouraging their tiny, toddler children into going on the huge high climbing equipment which is suitable from 4-5 up at the earliest and then, of course, have to go on there with them. Hmm And the dads who bully clearly nervous children into going up there and then bellow 'advice' and commands from below like a personal trainer turned sergeant-major while the child gets more and more upset.

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/10/2020 13:06

I love a go on the swings and have a go whenever I can. This never involves making children wait though. If I had a big garden I'd have an adult size one, along with crazy golf.

Brighterthansunflowers · 30/10/2020 13:07

Adult using a swing is fine. But they should give it up if there’s kids waiting

And the adults messing around on a toddler trampoline session are fucking wankers! That’s not just rude, it’s bloody dangerous and the trampoline park should have stopped it. Parents gently bouncing with their young child is fine, but not pratting about trying to do tricks.

TheyreComingToGetYouBarbara · 30/10/2020 13:08

Nothing wrong with an adult using the swings, but only if there aren't children waiting to use them and they don't break them.

PatchworkElmer · 30/10/2020 13:08

I wouldn’t do it if children were waiting.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 30/10/2020 13:10

I think it's completely understandable that the idea of going on the swings makes you feel very uncomfortable. Have you considered removing the stick from up your arse?

The swings in a circle always look like that because of perspective, but in fact they are too short to bump into one another. How can anyone watch them for more than 20 seconds and not realise that?

Ismellphantoms · 30/10/2020 13:11

I'm a swinging granny. I also love the slide and zip wire.
