Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

I'm 54 ... I want some grandchildren so I can go on the swings again

Try freecycle, someone may have a spare one they no longer need.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 30/10/2020 13:12

I'm a swinging granny.

Hopefully not with children present.

I think it's completely understandable that the idea of going on the swings makes you feel very uncomfortable. Have you considered removing the stick from up your arse?

The swings in a circle always look like that because of perspective, but in fact they are too short to bump into one another. How can anyone watch them for more than 20 seconds and not realise that?

Like I said earlier, kids feet do no touch each other when swinging towards each other. A 6'2" dad was very nearly kicking the feet of the kids opposite him .. including my child. Not sure why you think you know more when I was there?

They are designed with children in mind though. If the Dad is 6'4" or something...

@allfallsdown

I also find parents that go in soft play really annoying too, down slides and tunnels etc. No need imo
Sorry we don’t all let our kids run off and cause other kids problems. Some of us actually like to watch our kids and join in.
allfallsdown · 30/10/2020 13:18

@Halliehallie9828 why though? Is your child not allowed to go off and play with other kids for an hour? Why do you have to hover over them all the time? My child is happy to go off and play with other kids for an hour and I can see them the whole time. Kids don't need their mum joining in with every single thing

YANBU, I prefer the slide 😂

@allfallsdown

Because my child has special needs and is non verbal. If some other kid pushes him or hits him he can’t tell me or even ask for help.

Is that good enough for you?

Badgerbadger22 · 30/10/2020 13:26

If there are no children on the swing I have a go.

I love it - it’s so relaxing

Crikey. You can get anything on there these days.
Badgerbadger22 · 30/10/2020 13:27

But DS never goes on the swings. So I’m usually a loner on the swings 😂

allfallsdown · 30/10/2020 13:28

@Halliehallie9828 well first of all you said some of us like to join in and not let our kids run around.. thanks for the drip feed. My kid has ASD and ADHD and I still can wave at her whilst I'm drinking my coffee. No need to be so judgy

NewYorkIvy · 30/10/2020 13:29

Sat on a swing in the park right now. Not ashamed at all. The kids are on their bikes and don't need me

elQuintoConyo · 30/10/2020 13:30

Yanbu. Only because I tried going down a slide not so long ago but got my hips stuck BlushGrin

Going on kids' stuff, fine if the park is empty/no children are waiting.

In a big soft play near us they have adults evenings, dinner plus an hour running around like wild baboons - did it for my 40th, great fun! An hour was knackering!

Right ? Because I actually like joining in and spending time with him too. It’s not that hard to understand.

Good for your child. Your child is able to do that... mine can’t. Plenty of time for you to sit at the table and ignore them like all the other mums at softplay do so frequently.

paap1975 · 30/10/2020 13:33

I'm 45 and I love swings - but I would nover go on them with kids about

Halliehallie9828 · 30/10/2020 13:34

You can sit at the table and judge me for actually looking after my SEN child.

Halliehallie9828 · 30/10/2020 13:34

Yes, I go on swings too with my NT child as I’m not a fun sponge.

Your the one being judgy!

Fantastic that your child can do that. Many others can’t

Abouttimemum · 30/10/2020 13:36

Literally the only reason I go to the park or soft play with DS is for me. He’s 18 months and couldn’t care less. It’s fun! I wouldn’t use a swing if there was a kid waiting though!

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 30/10/2020 13:37

Blimey, you're boring.

BigBadVoodooHat · 30/10/2020 13:38

Oh dear, OP. You do sound like a joyless, judgy bore.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 30/10/2020 13:38

I still go on the swings, but inly when there's no one else around. I would never make kids wait because I wanted a shot Hmm he sounds like a tool.

Mammylamb · 30/10/2020 13:40

I love the swings! Even if my bum is a bit big for them

Abouttimemum · 30/10/2020 13:40

@BluebellsGreenbells Yes! We have those near us. DS thinks it’s hilarious 😆
