Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

@allfallsdown

I also find parents that go in soft play really annoying too, down slides and tunnels etc. No need imo
ah, but it's so much fun! I think they should do an adult only sessions for these things LOL
36weekswithno2 · 30/10/2020 12:15

I occasionally go on the swings with my son but I wouldn't if there were children waiting for one.

Swings facing each other in a circle sound like a terrible design

bengalcat · 30/10/2020 12:16

Pinch from the kids not punch

Doje · 30/10/2020 12:16

I love a go on the swings. Although my bottom is a little too large for them these days, which makes it less fun!

Have a go OP, get up there and swing reaaallly high!

Well there is a need if your child requires supervision and assistance in softplay.

Maryis · 30/10/2020 12:17

Kids absolutely love it when you join in and play with them/get involved in things they like!

cameocat · 30/10/2020 12:18

I love a good seesaw as well as the swings.

My children are too old for soft play but I definitely joined them, god forbid I might have had fun with my children.

I'd never use the equipment if children were waiting to though.

WearyandBleary · 30/10/2020 12:18

I’m pretty sure the swings would not be designed so that anyone can kick another person when swinging!! It’s probably exciting though because it feels like you MIGHT.

Cauterize · 30/10/2020 12:18

I like going on the swings, especially if I can fit between the chains without feeling like the blood supply is about to be cut off - some are too narrow to enjoy.

The Dad does sound like a bit of an idiot in this situation though

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/10/2020 12:20

I love a good soft play. I used to manage one. Playing when no kids about was one of the perks.

Swings... Only if it isn't affecting the children. Same with most of the equipment. A sight I've seen a few times is a group of teenagers on the swings, jumping off if a kid approaches, then getting back on again.

Damaging the equipment with inappropriate behaviour always wrong.

Yes because they are designed for children! Not parents

I don’t know there was a adult who didint love you swing with their kids?

Do you play with your children?

You could say you find a adult reading a child’s book ridiculous, or a adult doing painting and kids crafts ridiculous, but it’s not, it’s engaging with your child!

ShalomToYouJackie · 30/10/2020 12:24

YABVU and V boring too. Lighten up a bit! A dad having some fun and playing with his kid? The horror.

DGRossetti · 30/10/2020 12:25

All this thread has do is make we want to find a playground and have a jolly good swing ...

clarisee · 30/10/2020 12:26

Its fun. Last time I was on a swing was when I was on my honeymoon. The hotel had a children's park and it was empty so I thought why not. Of course I won't go on if there's children waiting to get on but no, it isn't weird. Adults can have fun too, my DH loves going on kids bouncy castles at birthday parties and I always join him. Nothing wrong with letting your hair down for a bit.

Fluffybutter · 30/10/2020 12:27

Oh i do love a good swing!
Hate roundabouts and slides don’t give much of a pay off so swings are definitely my go to .
I wouldn’t make a kid wait while I had a go though , I only go on if the park is quiet

NeverAMillionMilesAway · 30/10/2020 12:28

YANBU, as long as they are depriving other kids of going on them.
If no other kids in the park/waiting I'd be on them like a shot though!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/10/2020 12:29

Just as well really, because you are. I bloody love swings and I'd also love a go on soft play.

Growing older is mandatory, growing up is not. Stop being such a misery guts.

Bluepolkadots42 · 30/10/2020 12:30

I love going on the swings, but only if there are no other children waiting and if park is relatively empty to save being judged by parents like you...

Scarlettpixie · 30/10/2020 12:31

Well aren’t you a fun sponge. Not everything in life is about ‘need’.

He should get off when other kids are waiting though.

MarinPrime · 30/10/2020 12:31

I found a swing, made out of rope and a tyre, in the woods when walking my dogs yesterday.
There was no one about so had a lovely half hour swinging, and singing, in the rain.

Tiredmum100 · 30/10/2020 12:31

I go on the swings if the park is empty (and the zip wire 😳). However I wouldn't go on if there were other children waiting, or lots of people in the park.

Nottherealslimshady · 30/10/2020 12:32

Going on swings is fine. Going on swings when there are other kids wanting to go on is not. Swinging so high you're obstructing the other kids on the swings also is not. He's a twat.

CallmeAngelina · 30/10/2020 12:35

Dh and I are in our 50s and always have a sneaky bounce on the seesaw when we go past with the dog. It's a highlight of my week (sad).
But not if there are kids waiting for a go.

DilysPrice · 30/10/2020 12:36

Ridiculous, yes. Unnecessary, yes.

Neither of these things are the same as wrong. I love a lot of things which are ridiculous and unnecessary.
