Does anyone else find adults on the swings ridiculous?

Can't really explain why but I find parents who go on the swings at the park so annoying. Just been to the park with my child and the swings are six swings on a wooden frame all facing each other like in a circle.
Extremely annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle. Like why would anyone feel the need to do that. Especially when other kids have to wait a turn. Don't mind being told I'm miserable but I just find it ridiculous grown man acting like that, that is all.

I find intimidating groups of teenagers much more irritating than a parent on a swing! X

popcornlover · 30/10/2020 12:37

Did you say anything to him? Or just complain on here? Be more direct in real life - how can MN solve this for you?

Haggisfish · 30/10/2020 12:38

Yabvu! Here’s a play park desk bed for adults and dc-it’s bloody brilliant fun. habberleytrail.co.uk/
Love a good swing but wouldn’t stop a child from using it in my place.

WhySoSensitive · 30/10/2020 12:40

You sound boring.
I love a swing, and a slide, and a soft play.

Fluffybutter · 30/10/2020 12:41

@Tiredmum100

I go on the swings if the park is empty (and the zip wire 😳). However I wouldn't go on if there were other children waiting, or lots of people in the park.
Oh I love a “giants plug hole” I do .. wow that sounds rude !Blush
36weekswithno2 · 30/10/2020 12:41

Anyone else fancy going down to their local park and having a go on the swings now? I think I'm too pregnant.

ClementineWoolysocks · 30/10/2020 12:42

I find adults that stop playing to be really dull. It has loads of benefits and shouldn't stop because we're over a certain age.

D00MGL00M · 30/10/2020 12:43

God forbid an adult have fun with their child. He's unreasonable for hogging a swing if there was kids waiting. There's no laws that you have to be under a certain age or height to avoid small children whose parents may not be watching them or an child not looking where they are going . A 13 year old has as much chance of kicking a chilling getting in the swings path.

pipnchops · 30/10/2020 12:43

I love having a go on the swings at the park but only if there are no children on them (except my own) and I'd never stop other children going on them. Children get priority but if the swings are free I'll have a cheeky go on them!

Yellowcakestand · 30/10/2020 12:45

I always go on them if there is one free.

Laiste · 30/10/2020 12:45

annoying dad on the swings going as high as possibly can and nearly kicking all the other kids feet every time he goes into the circle.

YANBU. There's always one Hmm

The soft play we used to go to had 4 trampolines in a square. The kids entered the square in one corner and had to cross the first 2 trampolines to get to 3 and 4. So often there was a 'tight t shirt' dad bouncing so bloody hard his feet almost pushing the canvas to the floor and making the other 3 trampolines shake and jump so hard the smaller kids couldn't cross them. So many Hmm faces from the adults and kids all around him but they seem totally oblivious.

Re swings: I admit that me and my mate sit on the swings and sort of wobble about while we natter when we take DCs to the park, but only it still leaves other swings free and we don't actually swing swing.

Redcrayons · 30/10/2020 12:45

Never too old for the swings.

It’s a dick move to hog them while little kids are waiting though.

Goosefoot · 30/10/2020 12:45

I understand objecting to adults in soft play structures. There isn't room and in about 90% of cases they don't need to be there, their kids are fine.

But swings are for everyone, IMO. I'd not be on them if there are a lot of kids, but if I go to the park and it's not busy, I love to have a swing.

OwlBeThere · 30/10/2020 12:46

Swings facing each other in a circle sound like a terrible design

I agree!

D00MGL00M · 30/10/2020 12:47

Anyway. The swings are overrated. The zip line is where the fun is at. My husband is the best pusher on that and you almost get pinged over the top at the other end.

Stinkyjellycat · 30/10/2020 12:47

I went to a toddler trampoline session the other day (actually under 4s) and the kids were constantly having to dodge dads leaping around and trying to do tricks. Highly annoying.

sobsanta · 30/10/2020 12:47

YABU. Swinging is a simple pleasure.

megletthesecond · 30/10/2020 12:47

They shouldn't make other children wait.

But, I always play on the park if it's quiet. Love a bit of monkey bars and zip wire. And balancing, good for core stability.

Hoctober · 30/10/2020 12:48

I love a swing. My husband can't bear to watch me as I go really high.

I'm so good at it

OwlBeThere · 30/10/2020 12:49

I take some of the autistic adults i work with to play on the swings. It’s a joyful experience.

Attictroll · 30/10/2020 12:49

Always let a child on if waiting but I love a swing. I also have been known to bounce in soft play. Great exercise and DC seem to like it also a good example of staying active for life. I would prefer to have a bit of fun than being stood round judging others.

BigBigPumpkin · 30/10/2020 12:50

YANBU. Playgrounds in this country are for children. It's inconsiderate of adults to hog them.

funinthesun19 · 30/10/2020 12:50

If kids were waiting to go on the swing yes he should have moved.

Although, I have to give it to him. I kind of admire people like that who just don’t give a shit what people think. When my toddler is on the swing and I can see people waiting, I always feel like I should hurry up because some of them stand there staring at you. But here is a grown arsed man actually on the swing himself and not a care in the world. Grin

Itisbetter · 30/10/2020 12:52

My butts too big for the swings Angry I love them though, so soothing.

tiredsandtimer · 30/10/2020 12:52

If there were kids waiting he should have moved. But Why not if no ones waiting??

I also find parents that go in soft play really annoying too, down slides and tunnels etc. No need imo*

I love a bit of soft play, I find it quite sad when you see a parent sat on the side fixated on their phone and not joining in the fun.

It is ok to live playfully as an adult op. Try it sometime...
