To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

I don't have a thigh gap and I don't give a shiny shite about it, I'm a size 8 and have never had one.

And I look amazing in shorts!

Dugsbollox · 22/10/2020 11:29

I don't think I've had a thigh gap since I was about 10. I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you're at a healthy weight and have a thigh gap it's down to your bone structure.

Sparklesocks · 22/10/2020 11:29

I think you’re being too hard on yourself. You already know that women have a range of different bodies and shapes, and some thighs will just touch regardless of the person’s weight. Being healthy is the priority, not how your thighs do or don’t touch.

With kindness, I do think that if this is causing you a lot of distress, it may be indicative of a deeper issue.

Diadora30 · 22/10/2020 11:29

I have a thigh gap. I’m 5’4 and 8 stone, slim build. There are theories that thigh gaps are largely genetic. My mum has a thigh gap, so she may have passed it on to me.

AriettyHomily · 22/10/2020 11:30

I don't think many people do and regardless even in pretty small shorts no one would be able to see it. I look pretty good in short shorts tbh, not a chance of a gap.

chunkyrun · 22/10/2020 11:30

I don't think I've ever had one. I think it's more genetics and build instead of weight related

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 22/10/2020 11:30

I don't have a thigh gap & don't ever remember a time when I did.

I'm sure it's just as normal to not have one as it is to have one. Some people have small boobs, some people have freckles, some people have short torsos, others don't have a thigh gap 🤷‍♀️

Lillyhatesjaz · 22/10/2020 11:30

I have a thigh gap, I am 12 stone 5 foot 4 and a size 18 but I have very wide hips so my legs are set further apart it's about how your body is put together not how fat or thin you are.

Rainbowllama4 · 22/10/2020 11:31

It’s definitely down to bone structure, I’m 5,3, 9 stone so not skinny and I have a thigh gap, if I go down to 8 stone it’s hideous.

lilacmoon78 · 22/10/2020 11:31

I think thigh gaps are mostly to do with bone structure - some women can be slim and not have one whereas other can have larger thighs and still have one

mysteryfairy · 22/10/2020 11:31

I do have a pronounced thigh gap which people sometimes comment on positively but it’s as a result of having very wide hips which you really wouldn’t want either 🤣
(5ft 10, around 10st after lockdown weight gain, size 10 but 12 in narrow hipped trousers!)

Rainbowllama4 · 22/10/2020 11:31

@Lillyhatesjaz yes, agree, I have wide hips.

EmilySpinach · 22/10/2020 11:31

Having a thigh gap isn't just about the amount of body fat that you have. You can only have a thigh gap if you have a relatively wide hips and pelvis.

MamaMoonbeam · 22/10/2020 11:31

I got skinny hips so no thigh gap! Never had and never will unless both my legs drop off

megletthesecond · 22/10/2020 11:32

No.
I'm slightly underweight and don't have a thigh gap. I don't have any hips so everything is so much closer together. I also have athletic thighs.

OhioOhioOhio · 22/10/2020 11:32

I'm far so definitely don't. I've wondered this for years. Thank you op.

amusedtodeath1 · 22/10/2020 11:32

Nope no one in my family does or has. But if you stand a certain way and tip your pelvis so your arse is sticking out apparently you can fake it??? Never tried it, pointless with my Thunder Thighs Grin

Zilla1 · 22/10/2020 11:32

it's not only normal, it's the norm. c95% of adult women in the UK don't have a gap. Stop focusing on misogynist media-promulgated abuse and enjoy your life.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/10/2020 11:34

I do, but I don't 'work' for it, it's just there naturally. I don't have much in the way of hips either.

Frazzled13 · 22/10/2020 11:34

As PPs have said, I think its down to build. I have one, I had one at 9 months pregnant, and in the past when I've weighed more than I do now, the gap didn't really change, even though my dress size did.

steppemum · 22/10/2020 11:35

I am veyr hippy, and tall, but I have never had a thigh gap, even at my skinniest (which certainly isn't now!)

Perro · 22/10/2020 11:36

I don’t have one either. I’m a size 10, but even when I was 2st lighter They touched at the top. It doean’t bother me as much as it did in the 90s when waiflike bodies were in fashion, but I hate that they wear holes in jeans and rub in hot weather in skirts and dresses.

frumpety · 22/10/2020 11:36

Does it count if I say yes , but only if I do a properly enthusiastic star jump ?

lazylinguist · 22/10/2020 11:37

I'm 49 and have never had a thigh gap or even considered whether it's a thing I ought to have.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

Meaning this kindly, but yes you're an idiot. Grin This is something that really really shouldn't be occupying anyone's headspace, especially someone who is size 6 (whatever height they are). Pull yourself together OP and stop looking at other women's thighs fgs!

CounsellorTroi · 22/10/2020 11:37

No never had one even at my lightest adult weight of just under 8 stone.
