To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

Yeah but I definitely don't have wide hips or pelvis. In fact both are so narrow I had to have c sections.

TheOrigRights · 22/10/2020 21:33

Are your knees meant to meet when standing feet together?

EhUp · 22/10/2020 21:38

Yes I do but as others have pointed out it is because I am tall and have a wide pelvis/hips

I am a healthy weight (BMI about 22/23) and pear shaped so wider hips than shoulders. I don't have tiny thighs by any means.

DailyCandy · 22/10/2020 21:44

Yes. I’m 44 and have always been thin. Though my bum is another story. I would also still pass the pencil test for boobs & bum which I read about in Cosmo when I was a teenager, eons ago. And the ruler test for my hips.
Face is looking older though. Because it is older...

Nottherealslimshady · 22/10/2020 21:58

Nope! Even at my lightest near the lower end of healthy weight and mostly muscle I didnt.
I have wide hip, I just have wide upper thighs aswell!

Incrediblytired · 22/10/2020 22:01

I don’t and even when I was underweight I didn’t. It’s all down to bone structure. I’m super pear shaped and will never have one, I don’t give a shit though

ThankHeavenForFuzzyDucks · 22/10/2020 22:06

haven't had once since I was a child. Many women don't .

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 22/10/2020 22:14

No never have even when very slim

I’ve always had biggish legs

Thigh gap is so 2015 (or around that time when everyone was showing their thigh gap even women with big legs Confused

CandyLeBonBon · 22/10/2020 22:14
Hmm
Coconut2010 · 22/10/2020 22:16

I have a thigh gap but that’s because I am tall and fairly large built and have very little fat with a BMI of 18. I actually just measured it (never did before) and when I stand straight with my feet together the gap is 1 inch where the thighs are the largest and 2 inches just below.
I agree the thigh gap is mostly related to bone structure.

Shaniac · 22/10/2020 22:17

I have a big thigh gap. Is just bone structure.

tuttifritti · 22/10/2020 22:24

I genuinely don't know if I do or don't. I could call up pictures of myself to check but it's pretty irrelevant to me either way. I'm happy with my body which I do work on and get many compliments on and so is the man in my life.

Phew! Thank god i don't need to give head space to that!

Please don't either. Anybody who would judge your value on whether you have a thigh gap or not is not someone's opinion you would want.

Craftycorvid · 22/10/2020 22:43

DailyCandy. As the late great Victoria Wood almost put it - ‘pencil test? I could fit an entire branch of W H Smiths under my boobs.’

stopgap · 22/10/2020 23:13

I have a thigh gap because I’ve got thin legs and don’t gain weight in my lower body at all. My hips are actually narrow (34 inches).

Hm2020 · 22/10/2020 23:27

At one point in my life I was underweight and I don’t even remember having a thigh gap then I don’t think having a thigh gap is normal tbh

trancepants · 22/10/2020 23:44

The result was 50/50 "Hot" to "What's a thigh gap?"

What actually is a thigh gap? Is it your whole inner upper legs not touching even when your knees are pressed together?

likeamillpond · 23/10/2020 14:47

@JaneJeffer

The only people who care about 'thigh gaps' are sad little males I've never heard any man mention a thigh gap in my life!
I've never heard any male ever say they like a thigh gap.
PinkBuffalo · 23/10/2020 14:55

I have a thigh Gap but like pps have said I think it is down to body shape nothing else. My thigh gap is narrower now I am 2 stone heavier and a healthy weight than when I was severely underweight but it is still there. I think I just have wide hips. I cannot get my legs to touch not matter how hard I try in yoga!

likeamillpond · 23/10/2020 14:56

@BabyLlamaZen

No. Most women can't have one naturally unless on a very restrictive diet. It's not womanly to have one, just another obsessive to make your body look more childlike.

Really hate all this crap.

My thoughts too.
nachthexe · 23/10/2020 14:59

I cannot fathom a worse way to spend a life than pointlessly yearning for wide set hips because some misogynistic twats on tinternet are tragic enough to think it would make you more fuckable.
I want to bang their silly heads together and tell them to grow up and not waste their microscopic lives. If that’s the measure of worth, I despair of humanity.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 23/10/2020 15:00

I have a thigh gap. I’m really large. Thunderous thighs. Big hips. Much fatter than I should be.

Did I mention the gap was at my ankles? I’m practically thigh all the way down. I’m assuming it counts Grin

Rainbowllama4 · 23/10/2020 15:06

@BabyLlamaZen seriously? I have one naturally and I’m no skinny minny, pretty sure it’s down to bone structure which you can’t control, I also don’t have a restrictive diet and my body is most definitely not childlike. What a bizarre comment.

Cheeseandwin5 · 23/10/2020 15:28

If you are worried about having a thigh gap than you are doing better than most.
I am not sure I have all my toes, it has been that long since I saw them!!

Hannahmates · 23/10/2020 15:29

I do have a thigh gap. Mine is probably genetic as fat doesn't go to my legs or thighs

Of course. Everyone who is not overweight has one.
