To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

Never had one, even when I was younger, slim and exercised regularly. At my healthy weight I have slim hips and legs but no thigh gap.

Bubbletrouble43 · 22/10/2020 12:59

I've never had a thigh gap even when I was an underweight ( for me) size 8 and utterly slim everywhere. Any chub goes immediately on my thigh tops and arse and I like it that way.

QueSera · 22/10/2020 12:59

I have one - but I always thought it was ABnormal to have one! I certainly don't think it's something anyone should aim for, I think it's just down to different body shapes.

Babdoc · 22/10/2020 13:00

In the kindest possible way, the phrase “Get a life” springs to mind...!
OP, why are you buying into the misogynist shit that decrees women should waste so much time on fretting about such irrelevant details of their appearance?
Does it matter to you or anyone else whether your thighs meet or not?

And can you imagine many men standing in front of their mirror, fretting about their thigh gap?!

Bigsighall · 22/10/2020 13:03

Well I’ve just looked and I do! Who knew it was a thing! I don’t reckon it’s a good or bad thing tho just how we’re made!

MJMG2015 · 22/10/2020 13:05

Even when I was 6 stone (5ft) I didn't have a thigh gap, as most people have said, it's mostly down to your bone placement. A few people 'close up' the thigh gap they have if they put on weight, but not everyone can create one simply by losing weight.

Frankly I think my thigh bones would touch if I was boiled down to my skeleton!

And now I'm FAR from 6st, I'll settle for a thigh gap when I place my feet as far apart as I can 🙇🏻‍♀️

RaisinGhost · 22/10/2020 13:05

No, but once I had glamour shots taken and they photoshopped one on for me. You could do that if you want to try out having one for a day.

knittingaddict · 22/10/2020 13:11

Have you asked this before op? I remember a similar thread a while back with the same weight and height as you. I wonder because these issues with your body are rarely cured by posting on a forum.

Vello · 22/10/2020 13:13

It's genetics not weight. It's about your pelvis. Most women don't have one, and those that do, it's not determined by weight. I've got one and I'm not thin. I've got big hips so my legs are set apart.

Most thigh gaps on pictures are photoshopped in. Every picture you see in a magazine is photoshopped. It's not a photo, it's a drawing. You may as well compare yourself to Jessica Rabbit.

missperegrinespeculiar · 22/10/2020 13:14

sweet Jesus, but they have done a number on us!

FORGET THIS CRAP!!! HAVE FUN!!!

ShockAuVin · 22/10/2020 13:15

I’m 5’8”, 58.5KG and I do have a thigh gap but pretty sure it’s genetics rather than eschewing too many cakes.

NameChange84 · 22/10/2020 13:16

I grew up doing ballet and other very physical sports so I have lots of images of me in leotards and the like from being a tiny tot - I don’t seem to have ever had a thigh gap, no matter how slim. I’m naturally a curvy hourglass figure with prominent boobs and hips. Currently a size 12 but was an 8/10 for most of my life until recently. I do think it’s based on build rather than weight and body fat.

Tootsey11 · 22/10/2020 13:16

I do. About an inch maybe a fraction over. I'm 8.5 stone. I've always had one.

I think its your bone and frame shape more than weight.

ShockAuVin · 22/10/2020 13:17

Should add that I don't think I’m quite ‘right’ in my hip alignment either so thigh gap in my case could even be a sign of something a bit sinister!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/10/2020 13:17

Yes but only due to exercise with weights. Without, probably not.

Greyshaggyrug · 22/10/2020 13:18

I haven’t had a thigh gasp since I was about 12 .

Strangedays20 · 22/10/2020 13:18

I have one. I am small, size 8. Never even thought about it.

Franklyfrost · 22/10/2020 13:19

Anyone can have a thigh gap. If it would make you happy google inner thigh exercises and go crazy. I was really slim, without exercise and did get a thigh gap eventually but I wouldn’t be able to maintain that weight now.

I think my thighs touching does look a bit weird, I have skinny legs and they swerve in a couple of inches before the top and then swerve out again, so they just touch for a millimetre. It makes shorts look a bit obscene somehow...

Anotherdayanotherdisappointmen · 22/10/2020 13:19

I have very wide hips...still no thigh gap Shock. I dont give a shit. I work out everyday and eat clean..I feel amazing and I think I look amazing as I am..no thigh gap, still a bit of wobble on my thighs and my tummy, but I know what my body is capable of and thats more important to me

TheChineseChicken · 22/10/2020 13:19

I have a thigh gap. It’s not something I have ever thought about TBH.

BUT... I have barely no definition in my ankles despite having slim legs and I spend half my life looking at other women’s ankles and wishing mine were like theirs.

So we all have a ‘thing’, which probably no one else has ever noticed Smile

Callcat · 22/10/2020 13:21

I have super narrow hips and a thigh gap. I'm 5"7, 8st12 but have such a narrow bone structure that when I put on weight I basically go from a hb pencil to a thicker hb pencil with a stomach bulge and a moon face 😂 l am envious over women who have a nice figure, at whatever weight they're at. I'd be happy heavier and/or with no thigh gap if I had a bit of shape about me, but I carry even the tiniest bit of excess weight so badly. My heavier friends all look lovely to me. When I try to embrace it and eat to gain, I see photos and all that stands out is a massive round sphere head and a beefy body like a chunky teenage boy. Fuckit. I'll stick with what I've got and be happy I'm fit and strong. Like a BIC biro 😁

AllRightEsther · 22/10/2020 13:22

.

Callcat · 22/10/2020 13:24

Sorry I just went on a self absorbed tangent then. I bet you look amazing op. Thigh gaps are genetic I think. And another unattainable patriarchal demand on the female body.

Odile13 · 22/10/2020 13:25

I don’t have a thigh gap - even as a slim teen I didn’t. My sister does though and always has. She has long legs that naturally curve into a gap at the top and it remains like that whether she gains or loses weight. I honestly think it’s just a body type you either have or don’t have.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 22/10/2020 13:27

Surely you only have one if you have wide hips ( bones) and are slim ? A narrow pelvis doesn't allow space even if you are very slim.
