To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

The only thigh gap I get is from my worn out inner seams when my jeans/ trousers are reaching the end of their life Grin

I'm a size 8/10 pear shape with small pelvis but muscular lower half. I can get "chub rub" quite easily.

I will never aspire to a "thigh gap" and it's a more dangerous aspiration than most body image trends as it's based very much on skeletal and muscular build that very few women actually have much ability to change healthily.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 22/10/2020 14:37

I don't even have a knee gap Grin

Divebar · 22/10/2020 14:40

Can you tell me why you would want one particularly?

MitziK · 22/10/2020 14:44

Of course I do. As long as I put my feet wider than hip width apart. I've got two legs after all, so there has to be a gap between them, or I'd have to hop everywhere as though I'm in an invisible sack race.

When it gets to such fetishsised aspects of thinness, it's best to step away from the computer and ignore them as completely toxic and based upon misogyny.

EmpressSuiko · 22/10/2020 14:44

I’m 5’6 and a size 6/8.

I have a “thigh gap” but it’s not completely all the way down my legs, supposedly it’s called a toblerone tunnel 😂 it’s completely down to genetics and bone structure and not something anything should be worrying about, I can’t stand all these body trends that just make woman whose bodies don’t fit into societies standards feel inferior.

Legallyblondeee · 22/10/2020 14:47

@shitinmyhandsandclap

I don't have a thigh gap and I don't give a shiny shite about it, I'm a size 8 and have never had one.

And I look amazing in shorts!

Love this mentality 👏🏻👏🏻
FreeAcorns · 22/10/2020 14:50

Right now I'm at the higher end of healthy for my weight, but with a bmi of about 22 I have a thigh gap. Simply the shape of my legs. And I'd swap them for a flat stomach any day of the week! Don't compare yourself to others op. It's never-ending. We all look different and I'm sure you look great! What difference does it make to you or anybody else if your thighs touch? None at all!

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 22/10/2020 14:50

No - I don’t think women are meant to have one!

Mistymonday · 22/10/2020 14:52

I have been every size from 10 (skeletal on my frame) to a plump 16 and I have never had a thigh gap. I am fine with it and have learnt to love my rounded, fleshy womanly thighs. I am built to be curvy at every size and never will be straight up/down there. I like it better actually, more aesthetically pleasing line in myself and others. Not to say there’s anything wrong in having a TG either. People are just built differently!

Frannyhy · 22/10/2020 14:54

Thigh gaps look disgusting in a bikini if a woman has protruding labia...

CleverCatty · 22/10/2020 14:54

when younger and 7/8 stone yes - am 5ft5.

I'm sure it's a pelvis thing though and yes you are slim. You just need to work on toning or whatever the belly if you say that's your troublesome area.

Easily solved with some light shorts to wear underneath and letting go of internalised misogyny Flowers

Whatyoucanandcantdo · 22/10/2020 15:03

It would appear I have one, I'm in my mid 50's and only just realised. Had to Google hip dips too, who knew?

I'm size 6 and always been underweight, not sure if it's really a feature I should be happy to have or not! Confused

Diadora30 · 22/10/2020 15:11

I’ve just read that a thigh gap has an association with ‘femininity and fragility’! Load of misogynistic rubbish! It’s mostly down to genetics, and I think it’s like only 5% of people that have them or something.

notalwaysalondoner · 22/10/2020 15:12

I (just about) still have a thigh gap. I'm 30, 5'6" and weigh 9 stone. I'm pretty sure it's my wide hips that are the reason - I'm very pear shaped, and carry my weight on my bum, hips and thighs but despite that my thighs still don't touch. Strongly think it's mostly genetic unless you are very slim indeed.

Wester · 22/10/2020 15:30

I'm overweight according to BMI, but if I stand with my feet together I have a thigh gap.

I just exercise and eat a healthy diet...

No need to get obsessed, it doesn't impact on your quality of life

Next time I see anyone bemoaning chafed thighs, I'll point them to your post. I'm sure they will appreciate the flowers.
