To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

I do, always have. I don’t carry much weight on my legs. I used to get bullied at school because they were so skinny.

I’m 5’10, currently nudging 12 stone, pre lockdown about half a stone lighter. Usually a size 12.

I believe it’s very much dependent on your pelvis and isn’t a sign or being slim.

Hernameisdeborah · 22/10/2020 12:21

Nope, unless I really, REALLY tense up my leg muscles and even then it's pretty miniscule! I'm 5'4" and my BMI is roughly 22/23 ish. I used to have one when my BMI was about 16 ... that was looooonnggg ago now though!

Lazydaisydaydream · 22/10/2020 12:23

I have a thigh gap and it's nothing to do with my weight, just the way my hips/bone structure is. Honestly I don't think it's something to even think about...you can't control it.

LadyCatStark · 22/10/2020 12:24

I’m not really sure what constitutes a thigh gap. Google says it’s if you stand with your knees together and there’s a gap but does that mean th whole thigh or the top of your thighs? I have a gap between my thighs but they do touch at the top and then there’s a teeny tiny gap above that so... who knows... if I do count then it’s due to being fairly slim but with wide hips.

formerbabe · 22/10/2020 12:24

I'm truly shocked any woman in her thirties even wonders about this shite. Do you not have anything else going on in your life? Surely you can walk down the road and see what other women look like?

Namechangeme87 · 22/10/2020 12:27

Yes I do even when I was 12 stone I did
I think i just have wide hips / bent legs Confused

Clareflairmare · 22/10/2020 12:28

Yes, but it’s just natural shape. It doesn’t reflect my health or weight. I had one when I hugely pregnant too. It’s an overrated quality!

Powerbunting · 22/10/2020 12:30

I'm a size 14-16 and podgy with it.

I can force a thigh gap by standing very artificially. Kinda point toes and knees together, thrust bum back and clench everything. But it is uncomfortable and I don't see a need. I spotted it one day when trying not to fall off high heels and I caught sight of myself in a mirror.

workshy44 · 22/10/2020 12:32

I have a thigh gap as I am slim but v big knees so have terrible legs, worst feature despite having a significant thigh gap !

PatsyStone39 · 22/10/2020 12:33

I have it and i am a size 12. It's just the shape of my legs. You do not want one! Trust me, It causes my fanny to turn into the cookie monster as it tries to eat my dresses! I am forever yanking at my crotch trying to retrieve them.

babygroups · 22/10/2020 12:34

Pretty sure my thighs have always slightly touched, even when my bmi was at the very lowest end of normal. I have slim hips so i think my legs just aren't placed wide enough apart for there to be a gap iyswim?
It's really not something I care about, seems to be a really recent 'thing' and I'm not sure why it's seen as something you must have anyway?

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 22/10/2020 12:41

You've swallowed the INCEL cool aid. The only people who care about 'thigh gaps' are sad little males that no self respecting woman would want anything to do with.

user1471462115 · 22/10/2020 12:42

Only flamingoes have a thigh gap.........

ShopTattsyrup · 22/10/2020 12:45

If my feet are hip width apart then yes i have one ... but then a PP said that your knees should be together ... in which case I don't have one.

TheOrigRights · 22/10/2020 12:46

OPl, google pics of women marathon runners. Very, very slight women and obviously extremely fit. Very few have a thigh gap.

Floating662 · 22/10/2020 12:48

I have one but I'm definitely not slim. I'm probably a good 1.5 stones overweight at least

Like PP said it's down to bone structure.

Thingsdogetbetter · 22/10/2020 12:49

God, do we worry about thigh gaps now too? I'm still reeling from being told I had to moisturise my elbows. Lol

Whocutdownthecherrytree · 22/10/2020 12:50

No, never. Even when I’ve been super slim and fit. Some bodies just don’t have that shape

Ginfilledcats · 22/10/2020 12:50

Never had one and I used to be a skinny competitive dancer. It's genetic and is dependant on your pelvis structure.
I would really seek some help with your concerns of self image! I'm sure you're stunning! Having or not having a thigh gap doesn't make you a more attractive or nicer person x

Hoctober · 22/10/2020 12:52

I have a thigh gap and I'm quite the chubster. It's just the way my legs hang off my sizeable hips.

JaneJeffer · 22/10/2020 12:55

The only people who care about 'thigh gaps' are sad little males
I've never heard any man mention a thigh gap in my life!

PerfidiousAlbion · 22/10/2020 12:56

I have a thigh gap.

I’m 5’6” and just over 10 stone. I’m an apple/inverted triangle body shape though so all my weight is on my torso.

I’d trade a thigh gap for a tidy midriff any day. Nobody sees your thigh gap anyway.

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/10/2020 12:56

I'm underweight due to illness and have a little bit of one but I must say OP, this seems a very upsetting thing to worry about to this degree, and I mean that kindly and with concern. It's a trend, and just like all the other deeply misogynistic nonsense trends about womens bodies and whether they cut the mustard for men ans therefore make women more inherently worthwhile HmmConfused- are toxic BS. I think he trend has been over a while anyway.

A lot of the pictures you're looking at are presumably women deliberately rarely posing to create one which is possible, i can do this myself by adjusting my legs or they are exaggerating them with photoshops.

I recommend tackling the issue by giving yourself permission not to need to care what men find attractive, for the usually misogynistic reasons they do. Florence Givens book 'women don't owe you pretty' might be a good starting point. Life is a lot easier when you realise what we are all doing to ourselves here as women, and for what pursuit.

bluebearss · 22/10/2020 12:56

I have one when I'm underweight or around the bottom end of healthy BMI (around 7.5-8.5 stone at 5 foot 6), but not now as after a baby I'm now at the upper end of the healthy range 😬. I do have wide hips, so perhaps bone structure supports it?

IsAnybodyListening · 22/10/2020 12:59

A thigh gap? A would struggle to fit a rizla paper between my knees even when standing these days.
