I thought that too North. That he would be some weird puppet thing and the GOP would pull the strings.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 17:59

I agree, pond. Biden supporters are unlikely to commit civil unrest with guns. Trumps "fine people" aren't so reliable.

Roussette · 30/10/2020 18:11

I did notice that our threads haven't been inundated with bots and trolls during this go 'round. Scared them off did we, we mighty vipers, eh?

oh yes. We stand firm!

Oh my.
If anyone wants a boost, watch this ad.
It gave me the chills in a good way.

I'm posting this on various threads because it seems valuable.

When To Expect Election Results In Every State

Roussette · 30/10/2020 18:42

Thank you Lobster I need to look at this properly.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/10/2020 18:44

This may not be a sprint; it may be a marathon. I have to keep reminding myself of that, because if I don't the time between last voting and last results may be intolerable.

Essentially, unless there is a very clear majority one way or the other on the morning of 4th we may have to wait another week before it becomes clear, and then Trump's dodgy dealing and court cases will take another month.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 19:02

@Roussette

That ad actually made me cry. Not just 'choke up', but cry.

"Only the Young". It's what we're fighting for, isn't it?

Roussette · 30/10/2020 19:03

Across it was wonderful wasn't it.

It's all about the young yes. Not us.

Mrsmorton · 30/10/2020 19:08

That ad gave me proper goosebumps. Fuck I'm so anxious about this.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 19:10

Thanks for that link @HoldMyLobster

Looks like for me the last polls to close will be Alaska, which will be 10pm 'my time' (PST), but I expect we may know how the wind blows before then.

IIRC I think our local stations don't start reporting returns until our polls close so as not to influence voter turnout.

Roussette · 30/10/2020 19:23

MrsM stay with us and we'll support each other Smile

Mrsmorton · 30/10/2020 19:25

I predict a sleepless night on Tue. Thanks @Roussette I bloody love these threads.

Ah I always wondered why they don't report returns until the polls close. That makes sense.

I remember watching in 2012 (I think), and the instant the California polls closed, they called the election for Obama. I think that was 11pm my time and I was all ready for a long night in front of the TV waiting.

Happy days.

Roussette · 30/10/2020 20:05

That Guardian article is an eye opener lion

Sounds about right @HoldMyLobster

I was watching Jon Stewart in 2008 and I remember him announcing Obama at the 'beginning' of the Daily Show, which started for us at 8pm.

I don't know if the cable stations (CNN et al) hold back like the local networks do. I figure I'll start tuning in about 5pm 'my time'. That'd be around 8pm yours and about when the 'westward sweep' of closing polls should start.

DH has relegated me to the bedroom to watch. I'm good with that. Much less disturbance that way.

lionheart · 30/10/2020 20:13

Unfortunately, Roussette.

lionheart · 30/10/2020 21:05

I am jittery. Just reading 'Miami-Dade' is enough.

lionheart · 30/10/2020 21:06

I don't know. I am trying not to react, either way, to the endless polls and surveys and predictions.

'The architect of Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policy, senior adviser Stephen Miller, is said to have a drawer full of executive orders ready to be signed in “shock and awe” style if Trump is re-elected.

The former homeland security department chief of staff Miles Taylor said this wishlist was reserved for the second term because it included policies that were too unpopular for a president seeking re-election.'
