Across it's a moveable feast then because we don't know. So nerve wracking.
Will you be watching it live?

I remember sleeping fitfully when it was Trump/Clinton and turning on the TV every now and again during the night. Then at 4am or maybe 5am... one of the commentators said it was all over and reality hit. I wonder how it will pan out this time.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 15:30

Hope is not really calming my nerves! The sheer quantity of trump cultists in certain areas makes me very nervous. Either way, win or lose, I'm afraid Trump will cause chaos.

Roussette · 30/10/2020 15:33

I've just read Walmart has stopped displaying firearms.

www.npr.org/2020/10/29/929342190/want-to-buy-a-gun-at-walmart-youve-got-to-ask-for-it?t=1604071962227

It is scary to think of what Trump and his cult followers might do.

@Detroitdarkcafe

Hi. Checking in from the west coast. I'm hoping for total trump humiliation at the polls, a loud "no thanks" to hatred. I'm more than nervous about Tuesday. His supporters are very visible. I'm actually quite concerned about the possibility of violence, the havoc Trump will wreck if he's not re elected, and the prospect of four more years makes me want to weep.
Hey there! @Detroitdarkcafe I'm West Coast too.

I get where you're coming from but try not to let fear get to you. As Hagrid said “No good sittin' worryin' abou' it. What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does.” But I don't think there's going to be anything that can't be easily handled by law enforcement. And there are more good cops than bad ones.

I think we may see some random protests and bellowing from the Trumpers right at first, but at heart they're just bullies and bullies are cowards. Once they realize that Scrotus no longer has the power to protect them and in fact doesn't give a rat's ass about them anymore, they'll crawl back under the rocks they crawled out from 4 years ago.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 15:39

Trump's definitely trying to whip up unrest. Signalling to proud boys, these Nuremberg style rallies. Trouble is Walmart locking up guns and ammo isn't enough.

Yes, I'll be watching it. Live and alone. DH refuses to watch, he says he'd probably have a stress induced heart attack.

I'll be texting and video chatting with my DS1 & DiL to keep me sane, though. I was planning to watch the election with them, but they will just have moved into their new house and will have pretty much NO furniture and no bed in the guest room. They're buying all new stuff and are already gleefully giving away all their furniture.

Plus, first home etc etc. I'm sure they're going to want to 'cocoon' for awhile😉

littlebillie · 30/10/2020 15:49

The news is he may win

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 15:55

I'm glad Walmart has made that decision. I wish the rest of the larger retailers (Cabela, Bass Pro, etc) would, too. Better safe than sorry. California's Walmarts phased out gun and ammo sales a few years ago.

But I sure hope that people understand exactly who it is they're 'hiding' the firearms from! Certainly not Biden supporters.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 15:56

Who said that, Billie? Fox news?

Are we going to have a support thread for the election? It actually makes me feel sick.

lionheart · 30/10/2020 16:08

It's not news. It's always been a possibility.

Hmm
HoldMyLobster · 30/10/2020 16:12

I'm going to watch the election, and because of Covid, my family will be here.

In 2016 DD was away at boarding school, DH was away on business, and my other two weren't really old enough to sit up and watch with me. I watched it alone, with the worst headache developing. I went to bed knowing Trump had won, and that the Republicans looked like to take the House and Senate. Ugh, it was awful.

This time I expect all of us will watch it together. My teens mostly watched the debates, and two of them are old enough to have voted this year.

ludothedog · 30/10/2020 16:37

I've arranged to WFH on Wednesday so I can watch through the night and during the day. I think a support thread would be good. Might have to get some Gin in to either celebrate or commiserate.

Even if it is good news, until he is out of the Whitehouse, there will be no sigh of relief. He'll be like a vindictive spurned lover who will look for retribution and destroy what's left of America's institutions.

If it is a landslide and the dems win the Whitehouse, the House and Senate, they will need to get their arses into gear to pass legislation on so many things.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 16:46

@Detroitdarkcafe

I expect those of us watching will be posting here on election night 'non-stop' and if we run out of space we'll start a new thread. I know I'll be around and since we're both West Coast I expect I'll be around the same time(s) you are! Especially after 8pm PST.

That is if we haven't already run out of space on this thread before Tuesday! I think a lot of us are using this thread more often than usual to vent and support each other!!

lifesabitchandthenyoudie · 30/10/2020 16:48

I feel it's like when one is in hard labour and with every contraction they say 'just one more push and you'll have your baby!'. You just want to shout 'shut up and quit telling me something that you actually don't know!".
Love this, Across, takes me right back; isn't it amazing we never punch their lights out! I do seem to remember them being a bit astonished at my swearing like a trouper though Grin

Detroit I'm with you; I don't think I can bear it - and I'm not even American! (I have kids over there).

I'm going to have to zone out a bit; I have the 5th and 6th off work so I'll be able to drink Wine; a lot. And whiskey. (I might have to go and get another bottle).

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 16:50

Ild really appreciate a support thread! The mumsnet Resistance corps?

I can't bear the possibility of him winning and knowing the good people are outnumbered.

What a crazy generalization. I'm a Biden supporter and I have several guns.
Roussette · 30/10/2020 17:04

I think this thread might well run out before Tuesday because we went more quiet for a while but now the momentum will increase before Tuesday.

This can be our support thread whatever the outcome.

The news is he may win
We can find whatever news we want if we look hard enough Grin
There is no news out there to say he may win or lose. Ignore polls and just wait is my motto.

I so much want it to be a blue tsunami and irrefutable, that would be the best outcome. Wouldn't that be just wonderful?!

Earlier this week I went and had a look at some of the threads from this time 4 years ago... it was 'claig' time and the utter dejection I felt the day after oozed out of every one of my posts after the election. I knew it would be bad but never realised quite how bad...

boatyardblues · 30/10/2020 17:11

Still lurking/reading. Posting to give another thumbs up for Veep. It’s brilliant.

It is scary to think of what Trump and his cult followers might do.

That article finishes with the words

Additionally, NSSF found nearly 5 million Americans purchased a firearm for the very first time in 2020. Fifty-eight percent of those buyers are African-American men and women.

Not going to lie down to be killed by rioting Trump cult followers, then. (But probably, if the NRA has been trumpeting that fact, the reason Trump cultists may be stockpiling weapons.)

love it Cacacois!

One of my DCs rang me in almost tears the morning after. She was gutted.
But she did feel better when she went to Madame Tussauds after Trump's unveiling. She sent me a photo of her stood next to him flipping him the bird. She was asked by staff to move away from him and some time after he was cordoned off Grin

I still have the pic!

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 17:45

@Leaannb

So does my DH. My point is that it's highly unlikely that Biden supporters are going to take to the streets with guns. And not that Biden supporters all disapprove of legal gun ownership.

lionheart · 30/10/2020 17:48

Hello Detroit.

It's going to take a lot of Gin Gin Gin.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/10/2020 17:51

@Roussette

Ah yes, claig. Those were (not) the good old days.

Wonder whatever happened to claig? I expect they put that particular bot/troll back in the internet box never to be seen again.

I did notice that our threads haven't been inundated with bots and trolls during this go 'round. Scared them off did we, we mighty vipers, eh? 💪🏼💪🏼 🐍🐍

TheNorthWestPawsage · 30/10/2020 17:53

After the 2016 election I was actually optimistic that Trump would just be an ineffectual President and "everyone else" would do all the real work... how wrong was I?!

We were in Nashville on the day of the inauguration and went to the Grand Ol' Opry in the evening. That was a mistake! Apart from a couple from Virginia sitting next to us, the rest of the audience and most of the performers were hooting and cheering for Trump! (Nashville in general seemed surprisingly young and Democrat though)
