"Dementors" and anti dementors are just as bad as each other

I'm sick of seeing the self righteous "anti dementors" calling others dementors because they want to stick to the guidelines/social distancing/not licking walls.

If you don't believe we should all be totally back to normal yet then you're attacked as a dementor.

I think there's a middle ground of being sensible, taking precautions and being aware there is still risk. But the anti- dementor crowd think that's being hugely negative and living in fear.

I'm sick of it. Both extremes are as bad as each other.

The anti dementor threads are for kindred spirits, as Pollyanna would say.

If you dislike what individual posters have said on other threads, then by all means report it. If MN deem you to have a point, they'll delete that post.

I do object to the premise that all anti dementors think the same, do the same, are the same.

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:04

YANBU

it's that rather pathetic playground bully mentality jumping on the bandwagon. Whoever is using the expression think they look cool and it makes them look superior.

It just highlight who you can safely ignore on a thread as you would be wasting your time. Unless you want to wind them up, which can be amusing too and very easy, dementor or anti/dementors as they like to see themselves.Grin

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 19/06/2020 13:07

I've obviously been blind to any threads about this. I have never heard of dementors and anti-dementors.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 19/06/2020 13:09

Do you know, I have never read any of the Harry Potter books? No one believes me in RL when I say that.

(No particular reason for that post, I just felt like sharing Grin)

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 19/06/2020 13:10

@thedancingbear
"Nobody is advocating running round licking people.

Speak for yourself"

You beat me to it Grin

I'm a bit worried you're my DH now

grannycake · 19/06/2020 13:10

I enjoyed the early anti dementor threads but know I think they are as unreasonable as the "dementors" especially with regard to their attitude towards teaching staff

Allflightscancelled · 19/06/2020 13:11

Me neither, @OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks. They're just so BIG

countrygirl99 · 19/06/2020 13:13

The anti-dementor threads have saved my sanity many a time. Unlike the person who called me a selfish barstard for choosing a 90 minute route for my walk where I wouldn't touch any gates/stiles and rarely saw anyone instead of the alternative 40 minute, very popular route with numerous gates and stiles.

countrygirl99 · 19/06/2020 13:14

granntcake you will see a lot of praise for some teachers and heads.

I and others on those threads have huge respect for teaching staff, many of whom have gone above and beyond over the past few months. My children‘a school has been fantastic. So don’t start making things up.

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:15

why do you care? We always have been allowed to go out once a day during the strictest restrictions. Whatever nonsense some random comes up on a anonymous forum shouldn't affect you.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 13:20

Works both ways. Why should anyone care that someone else thinks they resemble a fictional soul sucker from a child’s book? It’s an anonymous Internet forum.

MagdaS · 19/06/2020 13:22

I’m also very impressed with our school. I said in passing I was less impressed with the HT being disbelieving about me being a key worker but that’s his particular attitude to working women, not his response to lockdown.

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:25

put it another way, people using the expression dementor or anti-dementor are the ones who make up their own rules, thinking either they are above everything else or invent some strict regulations that never existed.

the expression is as cringing as "naice" "MN royalty" and all this nonsense. It's just boring that people just plonk the expression dementor everywhere.

Except that’s not true. I have been on the anti dementor threads from the start. I have also followed the ‘rules’ from the start (the real ones), bar being in someone’s garden with 8 socially distanced people rather than 6 last week.
The anti dementor threads are nothing to do with everyone thinking they’re above the rules.

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:32

of course it does, it's just a way to call people you don't agree with. Which is why it is such a boring and cringey expression

It was funny the first time, it's got old now.

GalesThisMorning · 19/06/2020 13:33

That thread has a number of people who have really struggled with their mental health over the lockdown and are obviously getting some comfort from it.

I'm waiting for someone to start the 'meh, we're more or less okay' thread so I can join Grin. It will be pretty boring though. No lamenting, no teeth gnashing, just lots of shrugging and saying 'okay I guess. We've been on some nice walks. The weather helps/hinders/whatever... looking forward to things opening up again' ad infinitum

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 13:35

Gosh there are so many things on here I find ‘boring and cringey’. But as I know I’m not the oracle in what is interesting and cool I just skim over it.

Teateaandmoretea · 19/06/2020 13:41

It’s not about disagreement about fundamental issues it’s about the need at this time to not look at everything negatively. It’s just the covid version of mood hoovers.

It’s specifically the people who think no one should be allowed to enjoy themselves at all because of the pandemic. I got berated the other day for saying dd enjoyed coming to the garden centre with me to choose some plants. Because garden centres are not open for enjoyment..... Confused

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:41

good for you. I still agree with the OP, both sides are as bad as each other.

Teateaandmoretea · 19/06/2020 13:42

both sides are as bad as each other.

So you think posting unnecessarily negative stuff to make people feel like shit is okay?

MichaelMumsnet · 19/06/2020 13:42

Hi all, we're fine with this discussion (although we've removed a couple of posts already) but please do report any personal attacks or anything you'd like us to take a look at.
Peace and love.

Because that crap was trotted out over and over again. "You are not allowed out for more than an hour" "You are not allowed...." like some mantra. Loads of regulars stopped posting on many threads because they were invaded by people telling them thier own version of 'the roolz' and they spoilt many threads because of thier vitriol. Being told you are a fucking moronic murderer over and over again for just thinking something or finding something hard going is not a nice experience. There was absolutely no need for it.
Willow2017 · 19/06/2020 13:45

The anti-dem threads are not screaming abuse at posters nor scaremongering with BS how is that as bad as the other?

JaniceWebster · 19/06/2020 13:45

they may be, but most of the local garden centres here specifically ban children. I guess that if I point that out that will make me a "dementor" 🤷
