And it continues. Thank you for those black people who took the time to share their stories once again.

Well at least I won’t be seen as black by racists then.

Oh wait....

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:02

Dreep - you literally couldn't make it up! I genuinely wondered if she was having me on with the post about wide noses, but it appears she is serious.

Dreep · 07/06/2020 17:03

Here we go?

Really?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:03

AvranaKernsBestSpider

I really disagree. This isn't as easy to delineate as male and female.

I hold the opinion that all white people suffer from racism, I don't think calling someone "white trash" is racism or is comparable to what BAME people face. But "white people" aren't one group. There are populations within "white people" who are legally recognised as being discriminated against.

Why would anyone deny that? These threads have gone the way they have because op decided that all "white" people could be lumped together when actually, in law, ethnic differences are acknowledged and protected because those people suffer from racism and discrimination.

Op however has decided that she can just ignore that and apply her own criteria.

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:05

patricks- stop telling me what your definition isn't and try telling me what it is? Or you could admit there is no specific definition and therefore you have no place telling people they are or aren't included in BLM.

Dreep · 07/06/2020 17:06

No worries lemons

I should now be using my white privilege it would seem!

I am not sure if my nose is terribly wide either.

I get to my time of life and I’m re-defined.

Marvellous.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:06

@Dreep

Here we go?

Really?

I'm sorry. Has it come as a shock?
WokeUpSmeltTheCoffee · 07/06/2020 17:06

No one is denying the Holocaust
No one is denying atrocities suffered by Roma people
No one is denying that Asian people suffer racism
No one is denying that light skinned black people suffer racism
No one is denying the Irish Troubles

OP is pointing out the fact that the darker your skin is the more you suffer. This is not usually a terribly controversial fact

She is saying that although many other minorities have suffered many awful things they are not quite the same things as black people and they are not what is being highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement right now.

She is trying to explain why saying All Lives Matter is not enough

Mittens030869 · 07/06/2020 17:07

@WokeUpSmeltTheCoffee I reported that too. It was ridiculous because quite obviously the OP wasn't saying that the Holocaust didn't happen, she just didn't want to discuss it on this thread.

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:07

hearhooves - are you missing a 'not' in the first line of your second paragraph? If you are then fair enough, if you aren't then you are talking drivel!

Dreep · 07/06/2020 17:07

At least I know that my life doesn’t need to matter now.

What a treat.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:08

She is saying that although many other minorities have suffered many awful things they are not quite the same things as black people and they are not what is being highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement right now.

Except she didn't say that.

The thread title is

You're white you cannot experience racism

Dreep · 07/06/2020 17:09

I’m astounded zebra

I may need to sit down Grin

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:09

wokeup - i can't see anyone posting anything about all lives matter. No one posting at the moment has expressed anything to that effect.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:11

@lemonsandlimes123

hearhooves - are you missing a 'not' in the first line of your second paragraph? If you are then fair enough, if you aren't then you are talking drivel!
Thank you!!!!

I hold the opinion that not all white people suffer from racism,

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:11

wokeup - If the OP was posting what you are posting she wouldn't be having these disagreements, but she is not. It may be what she means but it certainly not what she is communicating.

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:12

hearhooves - I did think it was a bit of a wild statement not to mention total rubbish!

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:13

@lemonsandlimes123

hearhooves - I did think it was a bit of a wild statement not to mention total rubbish!
I was angry typing and my brain was ahead of my fingers clearly.

Thank you for pointing it out.

WokeUpSmeltTheCoffee · 07/06/2020 17:13

But they exactly are
They haven't used the phrase but what the hell else is all the discussion of travellers and Irish people and even Welsh people at one point about?
It's in so many words trying to subvert this into All Lives Matter

They do
It's true
But it's not what the current focus is about and just why can't black people be allowed to say Black Lives Matter without having to talk about everyone else too.

AmericanAdventure · 07/06/2020 17:13

But if men tried to argue that they faced sexism on the same scale as women, their argument would completely fall apart.

There are only two sexes involved in this scenario though. Where there are multiple races with varying skin colour. So it isn't a logical comparison. I suppose to completely agree with the assertion that white people don't face any racism you need first believe that there is only one white race. I think this is where a lot of the division on this thread is coming from. If you don't believe that there is a Jewish race or a Roma race then I can see how you can assert that they can't experience racism. I don't personally agree.

But regardless I do believe that Black Lives Matter.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:16

what the hell else is all the discussion of travellers and Irish people and even Welsh people at one point about?

Because the thread states that white people can't suffer racism.

Why shouldn't white people, particularly those whose ethnicity causes very real oppression and discrimination today post to disagree with her?

She's said something that isn't true. Why can't people say so?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/06/2020 17:17

If you don't believe that there is a Jewish race or a Roma race then I can see how you can assert that they can't experience racism

Precisely.

AvranaKernsBestSpider · 07/06/2020 17:19

Hooves.

Do men experience sexism on the same scale as women?

Do white people experience racism/systemic racism on the same scale as black people?

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 17:20

woke- the reason that these side avenues of the debate are continuing is because the OP is unable to even acknowledge things that don't fit her narrative. I personally think it is part of her social communication difficulty but it does mean that the thread will derail because of the way OP responds to things.

Take my question about defining blackness - why could she not just say 'there isn't really a standard definition and I can see how that means people might interpret BLM differently' Instead she came up with increasingly bizarre definitions around race whilst at the same time saying there was no defintiion and reiterating how BLM is only for black people even though she can't tell me what black people are!

PatricksRum · 07/06/2020 17:23

I have white in my make up too.
I never said that doesn't make you black.
It's quite ridiculous. I was prodded and poked into answering. I've said so many times I cannot define it, I state one thing and it's picked apart whilst all other things ignored.
I'm not surprised.
