And it continues. Thank you for those black people who took the time to share their stories once again.

@Mittens030869
Thank you, Mittens.
It is something I struggle with on a whole.
It's not that I'm not empathetic but it's like I can't word it

Patricks - the following are both direct quotes from you, directly contradicting each other!

I can't tell someone what a black person is because there are so many variations.
An Indian with black skin isn't black but maybe perceived as so and therefore will face very similar, if not the same racism.

@lemonsandlimes123 black people are those with dark brown skin.

PatricksRum · 07/06/2020 16:39

@lemonsandlimes123
To clarify: in simple terms a black person is a person with dark brown skin colour.
In response to "is a person with mixed heritage black?"
I can't answer for someone else. I can try by saying it's the majority etc but actually that is wrong of me. It's a personal thing.

It's very interesting that a slogan for BLM is " silence is violence"

june2007 · 07/06/2020 16:42

I asked you about the twins, I might have got the hair colour wrong but you appear to know who I am talking about.

On one hand you said black people look black, but then you say it isn,t up to you to say who is black.

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 16:43

Patricks - given that you say it's personal thing do you accept that you are therefore wrong to tell people that this isn't about them and their struggle be they traveller, asian as you have no idea how they define themselves in terms of race. You can't exclude people from a group if you cannot define that group.

JaggedHedge · 07/06/2020 16:43

For anyone reading these threads, an interesting exercise is to go through the posts and list the equivalent excuse / whataboutery / deflection that would be used by men unwilling to accept or examine their male privilege.

Striking similarities.

I would find it strongly abhorrent if someone with white scan would define themselves as black and therefore part of the BLM movement

Patricks - What about an asian person or person from another minority ethnic group?

PatricksRum · 07/06/2020 16:48

Can I just check if these are whom you're referring to?

Generally a black person is someone with dark brown skin.
Pp mentioned someone with albinism. Ethnically they are black but their skin is white although arguably a racist would be able to tell they are black.

Even if the question was directly that men can't suffer from discrimination?

They would be wrong to point out how they do?

PatricksRum · 07/06/2020 16:49

Patricks - What about an asian person or person from another minority ethnic group?
Essentially the darker your skin the more you will experience racism.
On a form that asks for one's ethnicity presumably an asian wouldn't classify themselves as black Caribbean or African but Asian although they may face very similar prejudices to a black person.

Agreed. There is a huge blind spot. The energy that goes into deflecting is astounding.

Absolutely. I’m sure someone will do the whataboutery of “what if women said men experience sexism, couldn’t men say all the ways in which they do?”

They could. But if men tried to argue that they faced sexism on the same scale as women, their argument would completely fall apart.

lemonsandlimes123 · 07/06/2020 16:55

patricks - sorry i wasn't clear. I was asking you are dark skinned asian people allowed to identify as black according to your definition?

WokeUpSmeltTheCoffee · 07/06/2020 16:55

I don't care.

The victims of it deserve at least to be acknowledged rather than ignored.

Dreep · 07/06/2020 16:59

Sorry people. Please ignore all of my posts. I am not quite black enough to be classed as black apparently...

Anybody want to tell Beyonce? Hmm

Unbelievable.

If not absolutely ridiculous.

That isn't my definition.
If someone is Asian it would be odd to say the least to define as black.
Like I said this doesn't mean they won't be seen as black by racists.
