You're white you haven't experienced racism 2 *title amended by MNHQ at OP's request*

I started a thread in the early hours.

I fell asleep Blush
I've checked the thread and it's full.

Whilst the thread sadly proves my OP, there were a lot of great posts and understanding by some MNers.

I think this discussion is so important and I'd like to continue.

These photos sum up the ridiculous responses.

Do not tell me I am doing my oppressed race a disservice
Your racial prejudice faced as a white person do not trump the daily racism and fear for our lives

Finally, if your response to this is to explain your tiny grievances of racial prejudices you've faced then you are wholly part of the problem.

The racist behaviours and thoughts by your people is the problem. It is your duty to understand and tackle it. I repeat, it is not the duty of black people to educate you.

You are sitting there in the UK, thousands of miles from the looting which is destroying people's businesses and you are an apologist for the looters? Shame on you. You know zip all about America.

Cast your mind to Britain 2011 whereby the looting riots took place.
Again, in response to one of our black people murdered again by a white officer.
I'm not apologising for looters. I'm resonating with their grief and understand they feel that this is the only way to make a stand.

Please tell me where I said you should apologise for being white?

You didn't. I wasn't addressing you.

Because as a privileged white person it is your duty to fight racism.

Indeed. Doesn't mean I have to kiss your arse when you're actually just rude, aggressive and dismissive to any poster who doesn't toe the party line though Smile

^A comment I read earlier: in a capitalist society obsessed with materialism looting is one of the most powerful forms of protest^

@PatricksRum

You are sitting there in the UK, thousands of miles from the looting which is destroying people's businesses and you are an apologist for the looters? Shame on you. You know zip all about America.

And I’m guessing you know zip all about how it feels to be a black person?

If these things were happening to your family, friends, children, parents how would you protest? Peacefully, asking nicely for changes to be made, shutting up when they tell you to? Or would you be so fucking angry that you would want to tear the world apart, specifically your own community? If black people are so angry that they are causing damage to businesses that is their perogative, as it’s their experience.

However I know that there have been many protests that were peaceful and not reported on in the media, because that doesn’t fit the narrative of the destructive, rampaging black man.

PatricksRum · 04/06/2020 21:31

Do you really fear for your life daily in the UK? Really? Like you fear actual mortal violence on a daily basis as you go about your ordinary business?
I do.
I can't tell you the amount of times our car has been stopped by police with DC'S dad driving. For him to then be searched. I worry, I worry he will say the wrong thing or retaliate and something will happen.

Don't kiss my arse. Just use your white privilege to fight racism.

You mean the violent drug dealer with a gun?

YgritteSnow · 04/06/2020 21:32

Poor you. If that's all you have to moan about right now then great. I'll continue in fear for my life whilst you aid racists in your community.

Grin there isn't an eye roll emoji big enough for this load of twaddle considering my background and previous occupation. See it's this kind of shit, I'm a racist or I am aiding them if I tackle you on your obnoxious posting style. Wish you could post GIFs on here. The "Sure Jan" one would come in most handy right about here.

sixthtimelucky · 04/06/2020 21:32

OP, from a white middle class woman, I totally get it. I'm glad you posted and I understand

Wow. Just wow. The unarmed black man was unnecessarily killed by white cops.

Your sloppy assumptions are false. I am not white. The OP's thread title is false, her posts are inflammatory, and she is an apologist for looters. If you want to jog along next to her? Fill your boots.

GeorgianaD · 04/06/2020 21:37

As a black woman, I am thankful for the friends and colleagues who have been supportive at this time. Those who haven’t, I see you, I hear you, I won’t forget you.

YgritteSnow · 04/06/2020 21:37

If that's your response to another black man dying then you're part of the problem

Nope. Stop your manipulative nonsense that attempts to put me firmly in my racist box. My reactions on this thread are to you and you alone. As you very well know.

BovaryX · 04/06/2020 21:38

@WhoAteAllTheWotsits

Many of the Antifa thugs are white. Do you know anything about the world beyond Eastenders?

sauvignonblancplz · 04/06/2020 21:39

To anyone who wants to pretend that they have been the victim of racist remarks or slurs when they are white are just trying to insert themselves into a narrative because they are narcissists.

White people cannot understand racism or what it feels like on the daily anymore than strapping a machine on a man and letting him feel the pain of contractions makes him understand what it means to be a woman! It’s deeper, it’s built into the foundations of a corrupt white mans society.

If you can’t fathom what it must be like to be oppressed for generations and for that oppression to be so frighteningly alive and well in Western Civilisation , well you are never going to understand it and quite frankly that’s your loss.

R1R2 · 04/06/2020 21:39

Your apologism for violent armed drug dealer Mark Duggan is abhorrent OP.

[quote BovaryX]It's horrible that property has been destroyed, but

Retired St. Louis Black police chief was shot dead trying to protect his buddy's shop from being looted. Do you have any clue about the destruction that is being done to black businesses and livelihoods? By Antifa thugs? Do you have any idea about the economic effect of this after the Covid lockdown? Brits who are thousands of miles away are trotting out meaningless platitudes whilst people's businesses are burning? Educate yourself.

This is one of the things that I am struggling to understand. Last night I was reading and listening to so many people in the US. They were people whose businesses had been destroyed, and yes, the majority were black. They were devastated. One elderly man was crying that he'd built his business from nothing and now it's gone, another man turned up to work and it had been razed to the ground, two black men were trying to stop looters from breaking into their shop, a little girl was trapped inside her house that was set fire too and the fire brigade was stopped from getting in, and yes the man you mentioned in this post - who is speaking about these lives?

My understanding is also that BLM excludes Asian people, is that right? So do they not suffer very real racism too?

Given that it's been said on this thread that racism is systemic and comes from the top down - how on earth can we change it on our own? We can try to vote in leaders who promise to remove systemic racism, but we can only vote for parties and politicians that exist. As a white person I can't vote for a black MP if there isn't one standing, so how, as a white person, do I change our government from being typically white men? Many of us are vehemently opposed to the government and MPs that we have but can white people change that?

mbosnz · 04/06/2020 21:41

Um, could someone point me to where the Antifa organisation is? As far as I'm aware, it doesn't exist?

And when did being anti fascist become a bad thing?

Why would Trump be so 'antifa'? Because he's a fascist? I thought that was the bad thing?

Well I am truly sorry then if you are black. So, please tell us all about how the protestors should go about it in America? How should they get their voices heard? What is the best way to make sure white people stop killing blacks? Because they have already pleaded not to be killed, over and over again, and oops too late, another black person murdered by a white cop.

ric12 · 04/06/2020 21:42

White girls in places like Rotherham and Telford have experience of structural & institutional racism that the OP couldn't even begin to comprehend.

PatricksRum · 04/06/2020 21:43

Your apologism for violent armed drug dealer Mark Duggan is abhorrent OP.

Apologism? I'm not sorry. Why would I apologise for a black drug dealer who was killed by an officer? You think I'd apologise for a black man drug dealing simply because I'm black? What kind of nonsense is this?

Antifa is itself a fascist organisation. This is a bad thing.

@WhoAteAllTheWotsits

Looters are not protesters. Are you struggling with the meaning of words? Watch the video of Desiree Barnes I linked. Antifa thugs and Brit looter apologists? Nothing but contempt.
