Some people enjoy patronising and depressing others

Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

Yes I loved that. But I wondered if it was a piss take?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 00:26

I really hope so. Nobody could really think like that could they?

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:29

It was a bit of a ‘murdering cute kittens’ post.

Hysterical.

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:29

(I wouldn’t put it past some of these dementors)

Lardlizard · 02/05/2020 00:31

You are not wrong op
There are a lot of arseholes on this site

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 00:32

Well I'm going to have to go to confession (the 1st time in 30+ years).

"Forgive me father for I have sinned. I didn't buy a smart phone so have committed the mass murder of old ladies"

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:36

Which by implication, did actually murder cats, because the dead ladies stopped feeding them.

HEARTLESS

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 00:40

But cat's carry C-19 on their fur dontcha know.....the dementors said so. I might have killed the old ladies but I've rid the world of those pesky bug ridden felines.

Daffodil101 · 02/05/2020 00:45

You’re just so selfish. People are DYING and all you are bothered about is cats.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 00:47
Havartitomeetyou · 02/05/2020 01:25

Surely the cats ate the dead old ladies?

psychomath · 02/05/2020 01:31

This thread will be ending soon. Should we start another one to call to account dementor-ing, or is that a bit OTT? Grin

What could be call it?

I vote for a second thread, and also for the name to include some reference to 'bingo up the back alley' Grin

Chockablok · 02/05/2020 01:43

I vote for a second thread too.

BINGO UP THE BACK PASSAGE 🚫♟🚫

Someone needs to take these emojis away from me. 😂

Chockablok · 02/05/2020 01:46

Ohhh wait wait...

BACK PASSAGE BINGO - The Dementor Free Zone for Covidiots and Coronacunts. 🚫♟

Emojis optional but funny.

Esprohuy · 02/05/2020 02:02

Might be too much of a fake portmanteau but maybe thread 2 will be called "Backassingo" . Seriously it's done me so much good to realise that I'm not alone in feeling wound up by the Dementoriat

Willitneverend · 02/05/2020 06:37

All for another thread.

We had the funeral yesterday. At least it got me out the house for the morning. Now it just feels like lockdown is stretching out in front of me. I'm beginning to feel very angry at smug wankers wanting it all to go on for months.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 09:11

Esprohuy Good plan for another thread if it suits you. It's definitely helping keep them in perspective. (and providing a few much needed laughs)

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 09:13

Wonder if they will kick off next week as apparently we're being told of the new plan by Boris.

Drivingdownthe101 · 02/05/2020 09:16

Oh yes, it’ll all kick off then.
There’s a thread running about some new research suggesting children are equally as likely as adults to catch Covid. As usual people are pouncing on it as proof that our children must not go back to school for the foreseeable future.
I completely agree that we need to be very very careful, and risks to children and the adults caring for them need to be taken into account. But as soon as a study hints that children may not be ‘super spreaders’ the same people rush to rubbish it, and at any suggestion that they transmit it like adults there’s a rush to post it with ‘see, look at this, we can’t possibly send our children back to school’. Why is this?

DianneWhatcock · 02/05/2020 09:26

This thread is running out of space...does anyone fancy joining a new one when it's full?

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 09:27

Fear I guess, lack of control. It's when they don't have an at risk parent that kind of baffles me a bit, unless they are say very unfit. In our home we have DH who is on some drugs which mean they out him at risk so yes, we are carefully considering it and have looked at his recommendations from his consultant etc and we will send them.

Not saying of course 'everyone should' but we weighed up the positives for them and also that they are in year groups such as GCSE and their mental health and overall that was our decision.

Anyway, enough of that. Yes they will probably go into overdrive as things change, I think.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 09:27

I'll join a new one. Hope we can keep the drama out.

DianneWhatcock · 02/05/2020 09:29

Oh ignore me I've just read back and seen others suggested a new thread too! Great minds Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 09:35

I might start a thread on an issue affecting women in lockdown and if they pounce give them the chess piece...still can't find it though. Who knows they might be getting more rational though. Which would be good.

Wasn't there talk of some kind of easier smear test going on before all this? Would be great f could be done at home. I do think some kind of innovation can come out of this. GPs doing phone calls and online, happened so fast, thinking of the positives can be helpful

Fancy a thread about wildlife and pollution too but think it might get overtaken by DOOM

OutwardBound2016 · 02/05/2020 09:36

I am tempted to suggest to the ‘I’m not sending my DC to school until a vaccine’ crew that they indeed shouldn’t and that will help social distancing for those who do!. Having said that it won’t be enough for them as they want everyone to be TERRIFIED!
