Today colleagues and I went in my car together and I made a joke about “shagging about” when I was a teenager - it was clearly a joke and not true.

College said oh Mrs Brentford “you weren’t the town bike were you?”. We work in a role which requires us to be non judgemental.

I said “no Colleague but if I had had a lot of safe, enjoyable consensual sex while single that would be ok and if I were a man you would be calling me a player”

To which she agreed.

FFS do women still actually think like this?

I made a joke at my own expense, I knew my audience well.

The response was misogynistic.

Clearly there was some error in communication in the joke otherwise there'd have been a different response, from a colleague who presumably was also joking (and got it wrong).

Almost nobody on this thread is saying the phrase is fine!

But of course, it's totally normal to discuss and joke about sex at work, you knew your audience 100%, your joke was funny and despite people on here interpreting it in different ways you 100% knew there was only one way to understand the joke, there's only one way your colleagues could take it, and when it comes to sex jokes with colleagues it's all totally cool until you don't like the response.

They probably pissed themselves laughing at your awful response to your colleague who probably thought her comment was funny, like you thought yours was. I'm sure she never meant to offend you.

We are all Social Workers, we deal with immense shit every day as well as at the moment reapplying for our jobs again so we grasp at any opportunity for light relief.
