To be flabbergasted by CF

Someone posted a thread the other week about how people are CF's on Facebook free sites. I did comment and say I'd had a clear out and used my DH's account to put stuff on our local free site and people wanted stuff but expected me to drop it off to them.

So one of the things i gave away (and delivered) was a Nestcafe Dolce Gusto coffee machine that we had used maybe 5 times i even gave away the coffee pods we had left with it.

Fast forward to today the lady who had it has messaged my DH on Facebook saying she is disgusted she only had the machine 4 weeks used it everyday and now today it's stopped working and her DH is furious because he did not get his coffee this morning and we should be ashamed of ourselves for giving it away knowing it was going to break, and now they are left with boxes of coffee pods and no machine and now her DH is expecting her to get a replacement TODAY and we should contribute.

DH replied something along the lines of f**k off you crazy woman. It was free and it worked fine otherwise it would not of been given away. We gave it away because it was something we did not use. He has now blocked her.

She has now started messaging off what must be her DS Facebook account calling my DH a coward again she's been blocked.

It genuinely was in perfect working order as she knows because she's used it for the last month.

Some people really do have some nerve. I actually laughed when DH rang and told me because i was so shocked.

I will never give anything away on Facebook again now. I can not believe people can be so vile. I am absolutely dreading bumping into her she sounds completely unhinged

This is why we stopped using Freecycle, but it also happens on Ebay. Someone bought a pair of slippers then a few weeks later demanded a refund because they weren't waterproof!

I think of them as con artists, and I don't think so many of them would try it on if there weren't so many people who give in and pay them.

AngelsSins · 13/02/2020 11:25

What a fucking nut job!!! The entitlement of some people is staggering. To be honest though I probably wouldn’t have blocked her as her ranting messages would have kept me amused for a while Grin

Singlenotsingle · 13/02/2020 11:28

So she's had 4 weeks use of a free coffee machine. She'd better stick to Nescafé from now on!

Daftodil · 13/02/2020 11:28

You should offer to reimburse her for the electricity she used heating the water and money towards her water meter too. 😂😂

TheFastandTheCurious · 13/02/2020 11:28

Cheeky cow! I had one of these, it was in storage for a while as never used, took it to work and it wouldn't work - turns out the reservoir wasn't sitting on the machine properly and had to be manipulated into place each time. Don't tell her that though :-D

Ellisandra · 13/02/2020 11:29

That’s a pretty good (bad!) example! Bloody hell, poor you Angry

I sold a games console on eBay. I bought it as a gift, from Tesco Returns. It was never opened. My listing explained that, and said that it was still under Tesco Returns 12 month warranty, and I would not be opening it, therefore it was sold as seen and buyer should check it. I put a bargainous BIN, postage included.

Buyer asked for before 09:00 next day delivery as it was for a birthday present, and I agreed. To be fair, it’s not his fault I didn’t realise that was going to cost me nearly £30 😫

So, in our messages I re-iterated - I have never opened this, as it’s for your daughter’s birthday, please do check it over first. Will do, he said.

I sent it, and included 2 games for free, a birthday card AND a large bar of chocolate. I’m a sap. Similar aged child.

3 days later, stonker of an email that I had ruined her birthday, 1 of the 2 controllers hadn’t worked and they’d spent her actual birthday trawling CEX for a replacement. His wife was fed up and wanted their money back.

I pointed out that had he actually checked it over as I told him to, I could have had a new controller delivered at my cost easily in time, and basically - to FUCK OFF!

lyralalala · 13/02/2020 11:30

We had similar when MiL moved in with us. We gave away our microwave and coffee machine as she was bringing hers

Three months after we have it away someone messaged us to say the microwave had broken

After they got really cheeky DH replied saying “In the interests of fairness and no bad feeling, I’ll send you a refund of what you paid in the post...”

I stopped him actually sending them a cheque for £0.00 Grin

IAmDudley · 13/02/2020 11:31

I just don’t understand this kind of mentality if that was me I would be grateful I had it to test for four weeks, had tried some of the coffees and knew it would be used and which of the coffees we preferred and would be more confident spending £40 on one than I would’ve been without you generously giving yours away.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 13/02/2020 11:35

Um @Ellisandra why on earth didn't you just return the unopened item to the retailer?
It's a well known fact around here that you can leave something for free on your kerb and no-one will touch it. But if you put a price on it, it'll be gone before you get back in your house. Grin

avocadoincident · 13/02/2020 11:36

@lyralalala your post made me roar with laughter

Emijen · 13/02/2020 11:38

@lyralalala I’d have had to let him send it, it would’ve been hilarious😂

Knittedfairies · 13/02/2020 11:49

Genius Mrlyralalala!

JosefKeller · 13/02/2020 11:50

She is insane.

Generosity from others bring the absolute worst in some people. I am always puzzled by the sobbing request for "free stuff" - kids clothes or house appliances, but must be of a certain brand.

Wickedwoo · 13/02/2020 11:53

These replies have cheered me up 😂 especially @lyralalala

I can not believe so many people can be so entitled over a free item. I have definitely decided it will never happen again.

As @IAmDudley said at least she had a month to try it she should be grateful.

I am just about to go to our local bank and supermarket i might wear a disguise incase i bump into her

I actually laughed when DH rang and told me

It's the only thing to do, OP ... if you didn't you'd scream Wink

schoolchoice · 13/02/2020 11:54

Bonkers. Personally I would screenshot the cc'd messages and put on the Facebook site tagging admin What a witch.

Elbels · 13/02/2020 11:56

Freecycle people seem to be the worst. I put a futon up and had a couple of messages within minutes. There was one man who seemed angry from the off and demanded he had it, I said I had a few enquiries to work through but would let him know. In the end there was a lady who could pick it up at a better time so I said yes to her and told the man it's gone. He was furious and essentially told me I'd given his futon away. Errmmm I think you'll find it's mine mate!

Rubychard · 13/02/2020 11:56

I’m a member of an Etsy seller group on fb. There are routinely stories of absolutely Nutjob buyers. One card maker had a complaint from someone this week because the card the design was printed in was too white.

Thinkingabout1t · 13/02/2020 11:57

I’ve been amazed by the CFery i’ve encountered on freecycle, eg people wanting photos of an item I’m offering, then more information, then better photos, then silence and my follow-up emails ignored. But yours sounds demented, OP! Actually, sounds like a MH problem. Or as others say, maybe an incredible CF.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/02/2020 11:57

I might wear a disguise incase i bump into her

Make sure it's a striped jersey and carry a bag marked "swag" ... after all you've robbed her of what should have been rightfully hers haven't you? Wink

Lweji · 13/02/2020 11:58

Tell her to return it. And you'll refund her of the £0 it cost her.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 13/02/2020 11:58

They probably used tap water

MolyHolyGuacamole · 13/02/2020 11:58

I wonder if they emptied the coffee pods from the machine? I only say this because I actually heard a story once of a couple returning a 'faulty' coffee machine to the store only to have the member of staff open the draw that was filled with pods hence why it had stopped taking more pods 🤦🏽‍♀️ they'd had no idea they were supposed to empty it

Ellisandra · 13/02/2020 12:00

@Stayawayfromitsmouth I bought it for my boyfriend’s son - for my boyfriend to give to him for his birthday. My boyfriend had a freak out that it was too expensive for me to have paid for. I earned a lot more than him, but he’d done some free building work for me that saved me a fortune, so - in my mind, meh, it’s only money. I thought he’d start to feel more comfortable and accept it... I was wrong, by which point it was out of its 28 day return period.

Boyfriend is now an ex, but still a friend!

Zurina · 13/02/2020 12:01

The fact she mentions that her DH is furious, is acting so crazy, and has tomd you her DH has demanded a replacemebt by the end of the day, made my stomach clench. I'm not surr if this woman herself is cdazy or whether being abused by her DH is causing her weird behaviour.
