Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

Trump is laying the foundations
But surely any cunning plan of Trump's would be a bit like Baldrick's cunning plans?
Surely that ain't never gonna fly, everyone can see he wants to appoint himself as dictator but he couldn't actually do it, no one actually takes that babbling old crazy guy seriously, they are all just humouring him arent they?

UYScuti · 07/04/2020 11:12

I suppose trump will just settle for creating as much chaos and confusion as he can around the election so that he can endlessly dispute the legitimacy etc of what happens?

UYScuti · 07/04/2020 14:07

Is that Steve Bannon now rounding on trump and denouncing him!

AcrossthePond55 · 07/04/2020 14:22

Not surprised there were warnings. But Scrotus judges everything in the tiny little light of 'how will this affect my family?'. He would have looked at the gated communities and excellent healthcare they can afford and decide "Eh, it's no big deal". How wrong he was. And how little he cares.

lionheart · 07/04/2020 14:31

Yes, Bannon does that from time to time.

Dickensnovel · 07/04/2020 14:35

UYScuti: People do take him seriously, because he "gets back at" those who speak out at all. Try reading this: www.newyorker.com/magazine/1997/05/19/trump-solo
He has not changed one bit in all these years!

AcrossthePond55 · 07/04/2020 15:10

because he "gets back at" those who speak out at all.

Ain't that the truth. I'm sure he has a HUGE payroll of PIs and others whose entire job it is to suss out dirt (or create it) on his 'rivals'. And now he is in a position where he has the entire DoJ at his beck and call to do that dirty work thanks to Barr's arse-licking.

Unfortunately there aren't that many politicians or civil servants who are willing to see their careers and/or private lives go down in flames because they dared to speak truth to power. It's a sad reflection of the world we live in. There are very few true 'white knights' out there with clean records. And even when there are (like Mueller) there are others willing (or forced) to take the bullet for Scrotus.

AcrossthePond55 · 07/04/2020 18:17

And here we go again. Scrotus is removing people from the oversight panel for the stimulus package. I'm sure he's planning to replace them with people who are 'loyal' to him. Bastard!

Stephanie Grisham is out as Press Secretary and Kayleigh MacEnany is in. Kayleigh is an ultra right-wing former Fox contributor, and is one of those blonde racist evangelical types. It is a horrible combination for Press Secretary, but at the moment, I’d say she is exactly Trump’s type and will appeal to his voter base immensely. Below is an example tweet of hers.

Kayleigh McEnany @kayleighmcenany 4d

SPOT ON!

“The reason they don’t want voter ID is because they intend to cheat!”

It would seem that way - but with Trump, things seem to go his way more often than not, somehow.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/30/trump-republican-party-voting-reform-coronavirus

'“The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends.'

Roussette · 08/04/2020 08:37

I watched on Twitter a past interview with Chris Cuomo and Kayleigh whatshername, the new Press Sec.

Well... what can I say. She's vile and just Trump's cup of tea. With her... black is white, and white is black, Trump has never ever lied to the American people, and she says on repeat 'Obama's horrible presidency'
If she ever did a presser, I cannot imagine the journos and what they will do with her. She just lies repeatedly like a stuck record.

Stacy Abrams has brilliantly rebuffed Trump on what he said here on that statement, he shot himself in the foot with that statement. She is great.

Yes, Trump Hotels Do Appear to Qualify for Coronavirus Bailout Benefits.
President Donald Trump’s hotels in D.C., New York and Chicago all seem to qualify for benefits from the coronavirus bailout. So does his winery lodge in Virginia.

thehill.com/homenews/senate/491695-grahams-backs-trump-says-theres-going-to-be-no-money-for-who-in-next#.Xo1ey-X0aPA.twitter

'"I’m not going to support funding the WHO under its current leadership," Graham said. "They’ve been deceptive, they’ve been slow, and they’ve been Chinese apologists. I don’t think they’re a good investment under the current leadership for the United States, and until they change their behavior and get new leadership, I think it’s in America’s best interest to withhold funding because they have failed miserably when it comes to the coronavirus."'

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/04/2020 11:53

On the WHO Trump said "They could have called it months earlier ... they should have known, and they probably did know. ... We’re going to put a hold on money spent with the WHO, put a very powerful hold on it."

Yet again, we know what he did wrong by looking at what he accuses someone else of.

That should read:
"I could have called it months earlier ... I should have known, and I probably did know. ... "

He knew in January what was coming, and did nothing until March.

Roussette · 08/04/2020 13:33

*On the WHO Trump said "They could have called it months earlier ... they should have known, and they probably did know. ... We’re going to put a hold on money spent with the WHO, put a very powerful hold on it."
*

Five minutes later, a reporter questioned him on this saying... should we be putting a hold on money to the WHO given we're going through a pandemic.
He said 'I didn't say that'.
He'd just said it!

The Trumps have superpowers.

www.vox.com/2020/4/8/21212802/trump-ivanka-10-percent-jobs-walmart-15-million

'On Tuesday, President Trump hosted a call with business leaders to discuss efforts to provide financial relief to small businesses. During that call, he made an astounding claim: that his daughter Ivanka personally created 15 million jobs.'

lionheart · 08/04/2020 15:02

Love the Abrams response Rousette.

She is so clear and succinct (not at all like a politician). Smile

They've told us today will be one of our worst days. I thought they were talking about victims of Covid-19. Now I think they were talking about the rise in Scrotus' level of insanity and vitriol.

At least the weather is nice here today. Going to drag our loungers into the side pasture and just sit and listen to the country-sounds. Cows mooing and sheep baa-ing. And frankly, the donkey's very loud braying one pasture over makes more sense than Scrotus does.

Roussette · 08/04/2020 16:14

Enjoy Across. I've just been for a lovely walk and stumbled across a bluebell wood. It was beautiful.

Oh my Lion

That Atlantic article is something else.
