Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

From your lips to God's ear Jaichange.

Nothing from Bernie so far.

I’m finding one of the more horrifying things at the moment is the ‘death reason’ conspiracy right-wingers are pushing on Twitter and Facebook. It’s an obvious GOP talking point as they are all on it at the same time, but their intended audience haven’t grasped that. Ghoulishly, the theory posits that COVID-19 death tallies are artificially heightened as ALL deaths, no matter the cause, are counted as COVID deaths. They point to graphs that show clearly decreased car crash deaths for the last few weeks, failing to consider other factors. (Staying at home, anyone?) They also fail to consider underlying conditions. In any case, this mass tweeting of misinformation and bad science has bred people ^who think they know better than the experts* - the experts who are trying to keep them alive.

I understand that Fox News (and presumably other Republican mouthpieces) are questioning Biden's sanity and are saying that he is not being allowed out by the Democrats to speak in public because he is showing clear signs of mental deterioration. I'm interested to know how true this version of events might be? I got this from a video clip I will try to share, which took Fox News's take down of Biden and interspersed it with clips of Trump's relevant behaviour to show how it could equally be applied to #45.

I've just realised the clip, from "The Daily Show", is a couple of weeks old. Sorry to be so behind the curve. As it were.

So, what happened to Freedom of the Press? Oh, that's right. That only applies to Fox & Friends.

They keep digging, don't they?

'Although the pestilence that has killed more than 10,000 Americans and shut down the U.S. economy is understandably dominating the headlines, the Trump administration’s efforts to erode democracy and the rule of law have not subsided. The authoritarianization of the federal government has hampered its response to the pandemic, squandering scarce resources on shoring up the president’s lies and pursuing his political interests at the public’s expense. This is the predictable result of an authoritarian logic in which the preservation of the regime takes precedence over the safety of its own citizens, because the leader is the incontestable expression of popular will.'

New thread please?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/04/2020 12:58

Phew. I rely on these threads for a sane look at what Trump is up to. Thanks, lionheart.
