Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

Why hasn't anyone from the medical field like Fauci stood up and disputed the hydroxychloroquine because what he said was so wrong. It's untested and could be dangerous and yet Trump is literally urging people to take it.

I think Dr F is in a really difficult position. Right now he has the entire NIH and its brain-trust and research capabilities at his disposal. He knows he's dancing on the edge of a very sharp knife and risks losing his ability to direct its resources as well as inform the public of the real facts. If he stands there and says "Don't listen to that fat fuck, he's full of shit", well, we've seen what happens to those who point out that the emperor has no clothes.

So the best he can do for now is to let his facial expressions show his feelings (and he does, subtly) and do his best to inform us of the truth in terms that Scrotus is too thick to understand mean he's being contradicted.

Also, I guess there is an 'infinitesimal smidge' of hope that the drug may be of some help to some people and so research is ongoing. But just as researchers never say 'yes' until the research is complete, they also never say 'no'. Scrotus as usual is being half-assed ignorant and picked up on something beyond his comprehension and has twisted it to suit his narrative.

They've said that anyone who is going to come into contact with him will be tested for Covid-19. What a waste of good tests kits.

Roussette · 06/04/2020 17:27

I agree Across and when I asked the question about Dr Fauci I sort of knew he is wanting to advise and use his expertise and not get sacked which is what Trumpy would do. What a fine line he treads.

He's a star and puts his duty above his feelings.

We have a Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chris Whitty, and we're just having our daily briefing and I am so so glad to see him back, he had symptoms and has received the most awful online trolling so for him to be on the briefing is great. He gives me hope.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 06/04/2020 17:53

Dr Fauci is my new hero. But @Roussette - though I am glad Chris Whitty is better and visible, was he not the one who went against WHO advice and was a proponent of herd immunity, initially? In which case, I can’t admire him as the UK had a clear chance to get ahead of the game and follow in Singapore's or South Korea's footsteps by testing and tracing - and didn't.

UYScuti · 06/04/2020 18:02

my impression about the hydroxychloroquine is that there is a stockpile of it and trump is keen to somehow offload the stockpile, that's why he keeps pushing it.
Perhaps he is trying to protect the person who caused there to be a stockpile?

Roussette · 06/04/2020 18:14

Did Chris Whitty do that... hmmm... not so good.

I imagine Trumpy has a stake in the hydrox because I read they'd just bought a huge amount?

But my brain power is diminishing by the day with this lockdown so I might be wrong!

Lweji · 06/04/2020 18:20

If Fox could be sued, could Trump also be sued?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 06/04/2020 18:32

Trump desperately wants to be 'The Saviour' re his pushing of hydroxychloroquine.
He wants to be able to say "My bigly brain knew that it would be the cure the world is looking for. I have saved mankind. Bow down and worship me."

lionheart · 06/04/2020 18:34

nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/04/trump-fauci-navarro-giuliani-scientists-coronavirus-hydroxychloroquine.html

'Trump has repeatedly touted the medication, at times with a fervency that makes him sound like a marketer hired to promote the drug. “Hydroxychloroquine. Try it. If you like,” he suggested from the podium Saturday. In perhaps the most surreal moment of his pitch, he announced that he might personally try the medication, even though he does not have the coronavirus: “I think people should — if it were me — in fact, I might do it anyway. I may take it. Okay? I may take it. And I’ll have to ask my doctors about that, but I may take it.”'

UYScuti · 06/04/2020 18:35

if trump went down with the virus would he be insisting on the max dose of hydroxychloroquine?

UYScuti · 06/04/2020 18:36

(x posted with Lion!)

Roussette · 06/04/2020 20:01

Oh and this.....

Paris researchers found that after five to six days of treatment with hydroxychloroquin & azithromycin, 8 of the 10 patients still tested positive for COVID-19, one patient died, two were transferred to ICU another had to be removed from the treatment due to serious complications

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/04/2020 21:39

Well, if Trump gets covid19 and insists on a maximum dosage of hydroxychloroquine, it may put him into a coma or kill him.

At this point, the former would be a better result.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/04/2020 22:12

At this point, who could tell the difference from his 'normal state'?

Wow.

Russian white supremacists are terrorists says Trump
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52186185

The announcement marks the first time the US government has applied the label to a white supremacist group.
"These actions are unprecedented," said Nathan Sales, assistant secretary of State for counterterrorism on Monday.
The Russian Imperialist Movement is believed to have offered military training to neo-Nazi fighters and aided election interference in the US.
The group is also thought to have been involved in neo-Nazi bombings at several locations in Sweden in 2016 and 2017.
The designation has been seen as an unusual move, as President Trump has previously been criticised for failure to do more about the threat of white supremacy.

TheClaws · 07/04/2020 01:30

Trump is laying down the foundations of cancelling the November election and/or not leaving office if he loses the election. This isn’t unexpected, but COVID-19 has given him some impetus.

President Trump: "[Democrats] want to make Trump look as bad as they can because they want to try and win an election that they shouldn't be allowed to winbased on the fact that we have done a greatjob."
