Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

TheClaws · 12/02/2020 03:00

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

I wonder which "presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens" Trump is expecting to pitch up in the Oval Office just at the moment.

UYScuti · 04/04/2020 11:43

What Kushner, the one that looks like a frightened 6-year old boy, he knows how to make the government run?
No doubt trump imagines that dictators kings and queens the world over are in awe of his leadership and desperate for advice and guidance
in his fever dreams 🤞

It doesn't take a pandemic to keep them away though. Smile

TheSparklyPussycat · 04/04/2020 13:50

Last night he repeated that "many of these states have 40 year old computers." It's in the White House transcript. I can't seem to find a transcription of his original allusion to this - not all briefing transcripts are on the WH site, as far as I could see.

I take back my Blush and replace it with a Shock

lionheart · 04/04/2020 13:52

I wonder how often his mind brushes against reality.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/04/2020 14:35

Sorry, I can't help it; I have a picture of mind brushes to go with mind bleach.

Last night he repeated that "many of these states have 40 year old computers."

I don't know about the states, but in 2017 the federal government had 40 year old computers running things like tax, defence, homeland security...

www.nextgov.com/it-modernization/2017/04/trump-said-government-has-one-40-year-old-it-system-it-actually-has-least-10/136966/

I wonder if those have been replaced?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/04/2020 15:02

Isn't there a case made for valve computers because they are less easy to disrupt?

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 15:54

Apparently it's Obamas fault the Covid-19 tests weren't effective

THE PRESIDENT: — it seems that a lot of people — because now we have tests that really work well. Abbott, in this case. Abbott. We have other tests being developed right now that are also fantastic.

The original test — the ones we inherited, Jim, as an example, they were — they were broken. They were obsolete. They were not good tests. And that’s what we got stuck with. We’ve developed some incredible tests. But this took 13 to 15 minutes. And they were all fine.

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 15:57

The reference to 40 year old computers is to do with the cheques being paid in.

Q That’s another thing — that there are rumors that these checks may not go out for another four months, like if you don’t have a direct deposit.

THE PRESIDENT: I don’t know. All I can tell you is the small business today is — we’re way ahead of schedule. There is a problem where — and — which I pointed out; I said, “You shouldn’t do it this way” — with unemployment, where 40-year-old equipment by the states. We’re sending the money to the states. Once the money is sent to the states, then the states, whether they’re Republican or Democrat, have to get the money out to the people. Hopefully they’ll be able to do it.

But many of those states have 40-year-old computers. I don’t know that they’re equipped. I wanted to give them money direct, if that’s what you’re talking about. I wanted to give the money out direct. It would have been much easier. But the Democrats and some people, said, “No, let’s do it the complicated way.

He's right. The tests that were available as per Jan 2017 were not good at all for covid. Wink

I just don't know how much more of this I can take. Last night DH and I were shouting at the TV "YOU'RE THE VIRUS, YOU MUTHER-FUCKING PIG SUCKING BAWBAG!!!!". DH has picked up 'bawbag' from me, so I thank you all for my expanding vocabulary.

Thank God the liquor stores are still open and that weed is legal in California! Both with option for home delivery!

HoldMyLobster · 04/04/2020 16:29

chomalungma OK having read that Q&A I think what's happened is...

Someone has asked him a question about the stimulus checks not going out quickly.

But in his reply he's talking about the change in unemployment benefits.

Stimulus checks go out from the federal government (IRS) but unemployment insurance goes out via the state.

He's right that some state systems are not at all ready for the change in programming that is required each time the rules change.

That's not necessarily because the systems are old. The system in his beloved Florida was installed in 2013 and is was failing before this happened.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 04/04/2020 16:45

Many banks have computer systems rather like the old London Bridge that fell down. They are ancient structures, built upon over the generations, where the oldest parts of the system are the most critical and cannot be switched off.

What could possibly go wrong?

Lweji · 04/04/2020 17:06

In case you want to buy some

"Spiritual charlatan Paula White, who is also a White House staffer, is selling “anointed face masks,” that will protect healthcare workers and her followers against the coronavirus and any other “demonically-inspired diseases.”"

Indeed, what could possibly go wrong?
thebiznews.org/2020/04/01/white-selling-anointed-face-masks-blessed-by-trump/

AcrossthePond55 · 04/04/2020 17:26

You know, if anyone else was selling snake oil or miracle 'cures' they'd be prosecuted.

Why the fuck is he and his ilk so fucking untouchable!

Roussette · 04/04/2020 17:33

That Paula White is bonkers.

I am a bit Shock with what's going on. Trump trying to stop 3M selling ventilators to Canada. And then blocking medical aid donated by chinese Alibaba Foundation from reaching Cuba. (My DD is v upset about this, she was there in January and the sanctions are crippling them, and now Trump is stopping aid there).Wild west sanctions
Then him confiscating 200,000 3M masks that Germany paid for to keep for US. Apparently US officials turned up at an airport with a bag of cash?

I don't know what's going on, the world's gone mad.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 04/04/2020 17:34

“anointed face masks,” that will protect healthcare workers and her followers against the coronavirus and any other “demonically-inspired diseases.”"

....phew. Thought for a moment that was 'Democratic-Inspired Diseases.'

But put me in mind of this:

Mirador · 04/04/2020 17:47

Trump can't do all this in isolation though, all those who are advising him, giving him ideas, the legal staff checking whether they can implement these ideas etc, all are a part of what's been going on the past 3+ years surely? I know the focus is on Trump, but maybe it should switch a little to those in his ear.

Lweji · 04/04/2020 17:47

There are all sorts of reports, more or less believable, of every other country confiscating or diverting PPE.

It will happen the same with promising drugs, such as cloroquine and now ivermectin, if proven effective.

UYScuti · 04/04/2020 18:06

all those who are advising him, giving him ideas, the legal staff checking whether they can implement these ideas etc
seems to me that trump is unable to tolerate anyone who is more intelligent than he unless they are a sycophant, and if you are esteemed, accomplished and intelligent then why would you associate yourself with him at all let alone be a sycophant?
