What Children’s toy still traumatises you?

Was discussing toys from when my oldest was a baby, when I suddenly remembered that stupid singing v-tech bear my mum bought my dd.

Nearly 7 years later, and I still remember the fucking song

“I’m a friendly light up bear
I’ll teach you 1-2-3
A sleepy hungry happy bear
Hey come and hug me”

AngryAngry

Then it would randomly go off in the evening with things like “I’m a happy bear!”

No bear...you were lucky to be in one piece

Hahaha @ lucky to be in one piece.

Not my toy but when my firstborn was 6 months old it was Christmas so me and DH bought him a toy elephant that walked along, rose up its trunk and made a noise
Put it in front of DS and turned it on . It walked along and all was fine.
Then it raised its trunk and cue tears and DS crawling frantically away . Not the response we expected Grin

FloreanFortescue · 12/01/2020 08:27

Crocodile dentist! Wouldn't play it Grin

Soubriquet · 12/01/2020 08:30

Oh dd won’t play don’t take busters bones.

We got it for her, for Christmas one year. Turned it on, started to play, dog started barking and she sobbed.

When my dh took it out to show my parents, dd locked herself in the bathroom and refused to come out until it was put away Grin

One word... Furby

bluechameleon · 12/01/2020 08:32

We have this singing giraffe toy at work that uses a hard 'g' in its name and it grates on me every time

Soubriquet · 12/01/2020 08:33

"Hello, Puppy calling,
Do you want to play with me?
Let's have fun together
While we learn our ABCs!"

We didn't even have the stupid walker, but every house we visited for a playdate did!

This book of cautionary tales, from my childhood.

Ha ha OP I remember the same bear, I sang the words in your OP to the tune it made. We had the pink one but one day when out walking with DD in the pram I found a blue one lost on the street. I propped it up on a fence and took a photo and posted it on local Facebook group to say if anyone had lost it, where it was. Parents were all replying to my post saying things like “someone’s probably chucked the annoying little bastard out their car window” or “probably been intentionally-on-purpose dropped while the DC’s back was turned” as everyone found it so irritating!

Soubriquet · 12/01/2020 08:38

Yeah we had the pink one.

But I think I kinda deserved it, as I bought the blue one for my little brother for his first Christmas. He’s 6 months younger than my dd but his name is the same as the bear so it sounded cute.

And it was....till I got one

Dalek that used to shriek randomly 😱

WiciousLittleFerret · 12/01/2020 08:42

Dalek that used to shriek "exterminate"

Brimful · 12/01/2020 08:43

Baby Shivers.

A doll that shook. It smelt of rank plastic and creeped me out. I hated dolls as a kid, I was a tomboy, no idea why I was bought it.

Mrsemcgregor · 12/01/2020 08:46

Soubriquet we had that bastard bear, in fact we had 2!!

I gave one to a friend and the other I took to the tip. The damn thing starts singing as I went to throw it away. Yes I’m a soft cow. Yes he’s still in the garage.

Amelia910 · 12/01/2020 08:46

This terrified me as a kid

Those cabbage patch dolls were a bit weird

TeetotalKoala · 12/01/2020 08:47

Oh for fucks sake. We had that bear. That fucking song.

It was bought for DS1 by my SIL. When my nephew was born, I gave her a stack of baby clothes, and Alfie Bear Halo

TeetotalKoala · 12/01/2020 08:51

I don't know if I'd have minded Alfie Bear as much if DS had actually used the different settings and played the different songs. As it is he just used to sit in his cot at bedtime/naptime and press the power button, so all I heard was the opening song over and over.

TamingToddler · 12/01/2020 08:55

A high chair toy for my son that sticks on and sings.
Brown bearrrrr brown bearrrr, spinning around on a ferrrrisssss wheeeeeel.

I sing it in my head at least 3 times a week.

Equimum · 12/01/2020 08:56

My 4 year old got Shark Chase for Christmas. I loved the anticipation and race to get away from the shark as a shark. He got really upset that the shark ate the plastic fish, and now refuses to play!

*whentherabbitwentwild’, we had a similar experience with my eldest son, but when he was about 3. He loved dinosaurs and my aunt bought him one with light up eyes, that roared and walked. He loved in in the box, but when we took it out and turned it on he screamed his head off! He never liked it and we had to pass it on.

For me, I think I have been permanently scarred by Toot-Toot vehicles! The sound. Of them drove me insane and I still have the tunes etched on my mind!

SinkGirl · 12/01/2020 08:57

My very stern Speak & Spell...

“NO, that is INCORRECT! The correct spelling of balloon is B-A-L-L-O-O-N. BALLOON.”

One of my favourite toys was Teddy Ruxbin - he’s in our loft with a busted eye, I imagine he’d be a lot scarier these days!

worlybear · 12/01/2020 08:59

My (then) toddler daughter was terrified of the noo-noo (hoover thing) in teletubbies.
Personally I thought the teletubbies were worse!

Notso · 12/01/2020 09:07

My sister had this and it got passed around all the cousins etc, everyone found it petrifying.
