Following on from the previous thread, someone asked for another to be created.

Here it is.

A lot of the examples being shared are from the Daily Fail. What if the silver lining on this dark cloud is that the tabloid style of reporting moves out of the dark ages. Imagine a tabloid press that doesn't print sexist/ racist/untrue stories. I'm all for an easy read and/or probing journalism but if anything this whole sorry episode has highlighted is that the absolute codswallop that has been printed is damaging to a whole host of women. How can we move forward from that in the same way as other countries do? There's somebody at the Daily Fail and others writing all this garbage and there's someone paying them to do it .. there the ones with their hands up the puppet's bum .

Butterymuffin · 12/01/2020 09:29

Just reading some of the Mail stuff now. They keep referring to it as Harry's 'abdication' which is not only inaccurate but ramps up the drama. Hmm

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 09:33

Face to face talks tomorrow at Sandringham. MM joining by conference call.

Conference call bingo anyone ?

Just heard about the summons to talk on R4. Ooh

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 09:39

Their defenders keep banging on about their mental health, like this was the only solution?

Get counselling! Every day if necessary!

Kittenbittenmitten · 12/01/2020 09:46

Just watched the video of Harry touting Meghan for voiceover work. Bob Iger looks so uncomfortable.

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 09:47

MM not being there in person in such important talks puts her on the back foot. Makes it very awkward for PH too.

However this is what's happens when you think you can start calling the shots with the Queen.

hopeishere · 12/01/2020 09:47

I still can't get my head around what it is they actually want.

Live half the time elsewhere - fine
Do some royal duties - ok
Be financially independent - is it really all about this? They don't want the palace saying yes or no to what they choose to do?

Dongdingdong · 12/01/2020 09:48

A lot of the examples being shared are from the Daily Fail.

The Tom Bradby stuff about the no holds barred interview is from the Sunday Times.

Making their announcement on the eve of Kate’s birthday was passive aggressive

I don’t get the big deal about it being Kate’s birthday. Does anyone actually care about their birthdays past the age of about five?

Dongdingdong · 12/01/2020 09:50

Just heard about the summons to talk on R4. Ooh

@MarshaBradyo can you elaborate?

AutumnRose1 · 12/01/2020 09:51

“ Does anyone actually care about their birthdays past the age of about five?”

Yes. I love birthdays 😂

BrotherlyLove · 12/01/2020 09:51

They are greeted by crowds wherever they go.
They had thousands lining the streets when they got married, millions more watching the tv and wishing them well.
Why are they forgetting this and taking more notice of a few wanky headlines by people wanting to sell a few papers on a dull Wednesday.
I don't understand how they can be so sensitive and insensitive at the same time.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 12/01/2020 09:53

I think M wants to carry on acting, in huge roles. I think that's what the Disney request was about, keeping her hand in. And whatever you think of Disney or Pixar, they are HUGE and many actors aspire to be in a Disney or Pixar movie. It's a sign of having really made it. She wants to be an A List film star and she wasn't getting any younger.

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 09:53

Queen and Prince Harry to hold talks over Sussexes' future www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51077816

BrotherlyLove · 12/01/2020 09:53

What they want is to your the HRH brand around the world to make a fortune, attend trolling of the colour and Lion King Premieres but not visit the great unwashed of (insert grim town of choice)

BrotherlyLove · 12/01/2020 09:54

*tout

Their cake and they want to eat it

Poorolddaddypig · 12/01/2020 09:56

I’ve changed my mind.

I used to dislike them, like I dislike the whole royal family. But after reading this thread I’ve grown quite fond of them. Good for them I say!

billysboy · 12/01/2020 09:56

cake and eat it all day long and massively disrespectful to the Queen and family

StartupRepair · 12/01/2020 09:57

They want to be able to attend premieres and tout for work on the red carpet. Lovely.

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2020 09:57

DongDong yep re pp

Queen summons Prince Harry for crisis meeting to discuss plans for Duke and Meghan Markle. Queen Elizabeth II has summoned her grandson for a crisis meeting to discuss future arrangements for the Duke of Sussex and his wife, following the couple's shock announcement they want to step back from royal duties.

HoneysuckleSpeck · 12/01/2020 09:58

I’ve tended to defend them but that video of H trying to promote her as a voiceover artist 😮

Shameless and crass. What was he thinking?!

anonacfr · 12/01/2020 10:01

What video are we talking about?

Dongdingdong · 12/01/2020 10:02

@MarshaBradyo oh - I thought you meant Radio 4! Grin

brendansbuddy · 12/01/2020 10:03

Parasites the lot of them. Republic has entirely exposed the myth of increased tourism (does nobody visit Versailles any more then?) and the total costs of this family to the taxpayer (est. £345 million annually) The public seemed to prefer H&M rather as they did Diana, as rebels. But our entrenched forelock-tugging British deference to the unelected class elite always wins. I'm sure many will be cringeingly grateful that these two don't really abandon the UK. They absolutely want the benefits (Royal Duchy shortbread anyone?) AND the privacy. I have no doubt they'll get a deal and we taxpaying mugs will lie down and take it. It's so irritating and depressing. Meanwhile, austerity...
