Following on from the previous thread, someone asked for another to be created.

Here it is.

Have you never seen all the Duchy foodstuffs in Waitrose, courtesy of Prince Charles,

Or the Buckingham Palace shop with overpriced tat, biscuits, stuffed Corgis etc?

They all do it.

But not for personal gain, that's the crucial difference.

Dogno1 · 11/01/2020 22:51

@Alsohuman I agree! I think Charles was basically informed 'this is the wife for you', and it was a done deal. Diana ticked all the right boxes, plus she was deemed young enough to be 'moulded' into the role. PW probably took a lot of advice on board too as Kate is a 'commoner' by some standards, but they seem to have made a good match (at least in public). Harry has always been a bit of a party boy so he's probably bored shitless being wheeled out for official events (even though he's hardly young these days). I mostly feel for the Queen as she seems to be grimly hanging on for as long as she can to keep it all ticking over. However this is all my own speculation as I personally know none of them 😁

StubbleTurnips · 11/01/2020 22:52

She’s been up north, she went on the train with the queen to Cheshire.

MissEliza · 11/01/2020 22:53

I don't think she's left him judging by the body language at the Canada house visit. I sincerely hope their marriage lasts, as I would anybody's, but I think Harry was lonely before she came along. They seem a lovely little threesome now and although I really don't like how they've handled things, I hope their marriage will endure.

Challfont · 11/01/2020 22:54

Ooh Cheshire, yes that is really far up north.

time4chocolate · 11/01/2020 22:54

TooEarly was about to post similar. Sadly, I think it’s looking more and more like she may have issued an ultimatum. It’s not going to end well.

StubbleTurnips · 11/01/2020 22:56

Challfont technically Runcorn bridge opening IIRC. Think I’d have run from a life of opening bridges in soggy Runcorn too.

Dongdingdong · 11/01/2020 22:57

She's left him, hasn't she ?

I don’t think so - they were very much together at Canada House. That’s probably why she flew over to the UK for a couple of days - if Harry had come back alone then there would have been massive speculation that they had split.

Horehound · 11/01/2020 23:00

I also wondered if they've split and this is all for show for a wee while.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/01/2020 23:01

I think it was more that Diana was young enough to still be a virgin, rather than young enough to be moulded.
She had to undergo an examination to prove her virginity.

ajandjjmum · 11/01/2020 23:02

I think they are in a real mess, but that Harry is really suffering mentally. Charles should get on the first flight from Scotland, and get to Windsor to spend some time talking to his son. Apparently Harry has been alienated from his old school and forces friends, and I think it must be vile to be here trying to sort out things on his own. Or maybe Tiggy Legge Bourke should pop down to Frogmore, and have a good chat with him.

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 23:03

I thought that was an urban myth. She did talk about “keeping myself tidy” though.

Dongdingdong · 11/01/2020 23:06

I’m sure I heard Nicholas Witchell on BBC news earlier saying that the Queen, Charles, William and Harry will all be meeting face to face on Monday to thrash everything out, with Meghan potentially on speaker phone. Who wouldn’t love to be a fly on the wall in that room!

SirVixofVixHall · 11/01/2020 23:07

Is it a myth ? I have read it several times in different places, many years ago though, has it been disproved ?

Dogno1 · 11/01/2020 23:07

Plus if they really do want to retreat and slip into a more 'normal' life away from the public eye. Why the website and Instagram? Meghan wasn't anymore famous than someone off say; Eastenders or Corrie, and Harry is never going to take the throne. So let the titles go and several generations on its a case of being able to slip into relative obscurity... Unless they don't actually want their future descendants to not have the association with the crown, and all the benefits it brings.

mummyrocks1 · 11/01/2020 23:08

I have been reading some articles about MM from the last couple of years. She's had some criticism but I don't think any more than most celebrities get. Kate had lots of criticism in the early days, was scrutinised over what she wore, dressing too old, those pictures of her sunbathing topless. I think its inevitable that MM will be photographed and scrutinised because of her role. If Kate showed up with her bra showing she would have had the same. It's unfortunate that MM made a few mistakes in the early days and because of her status they were pictured.

The difference is Kate and William stood firm, didn't take it to heart and played the press well. They give the press the pictures they want and go along with the press and so are left alone to live a fairly normal life- eg Kate taking her kids to Sainsbury's for Halloween costumes. I think that's why they aren't criticised.

Whereas Harry and MM expected everyone to love them. Took all the headlines to heart. They should have just brushed them off- oh I crossed my Legs wrong, oh dear- haha. They must also have had bad advice as MM just didn't seem to follow the protocol.

They also brought criticism upon themselves by feeling its fine to spend public money on their houses etc but couldn't even do a quick picture or share information when Archie was born. If they'd just released a few photos at key times I think the press would have left them alone more. They then went on to preach about climate change whilst having a massive carbon footprint themselves! If you choose to preach or talk about controversial issues as you want to represent charities you are bound to get some criticism. If you don't want criticism and want privacy then don't seek it.

Planeplane · 11/01/2020 23:08

She’s been up north, she went on the train with the queen to Cheshire.

The exception that proves the rule though really isn't it. Happy to come up north when it's because she's been personally invited by the queen but not so fussed when it's just a normal visit to a children's hospital.

Oakenbeach · 11/01/2020 23:10

So hypocrisy is a dog whistle now

The increasing use of term “dog whistle” by the “liberal left” to shut down discussion and by implication extend the taint of racism to anything they deem incompatible with their woke creed shows how intolerant and (ironically) illiberal they are becoming!

Planeplane · 11/01/2020 23:12

Oakenbeach

Exactly.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 11/01/2020 23:15

@time4chocolate
Sadly, I think it’s looking more and more like she may have issued an ultimatum. It’s not going to end well.

No it isn't...…….

hambledon · 11/01/2020 23:17

Mummyrocks:

Could you share some evidence of them preaching please? I've read a lot about them and I haven't read any preaching. They give opinions about the causes they care about. So do Catherine and William. This is a genuine plea. Several people have mentioned that PH and MM lecture and preach. I honestly really want to see and read the evidence of that. I am fully prepared to accept it if it exists!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 11/01/2020 23:18

But not for personal gain

The Duchy of Cornwall is private, not state owned. So any profit is personal gain.

Sandringham and Balmoral are open to the public and also have shops selling stuff - that money is personal gain as they are again personally owned, not state property.

Harry and Meghan may end up earning more if things are successful but I presume we're talking about the principle rather than the amount involved?

Profits from Royal Collection at BP may go to the Treasury but I don't know.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 11/01/2020 23:20

I agree strenuously with everything you have said on this thread @Oakenbeach.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 11/01/2020 23:25

Judging by comments I really have the impression a lot of people - not just on MN - want this marriage to fail. I really hope that away from the UK, it thrives and they can give a big two fingers to the naysayers.

Dogno1 · 11/01/2020 23:27

Is Cheshire really up North? I'm further North and the nearest I've come to a royal (potentially) was on a motorway where there was a 5 armoured range rover convoy passing us with blacked out windows. I vaguely recalled some RF member doing 'something' in the vacinity. So commented to OH 'Oooh that must be so and so!', and hung out the window like a pleb waving 😂 They didn't respond, but I'd like to think they noticed and potentially flicked me the bird as they passed.
