To ask if you think there will be a second coming?

This is inspired by the new Netflix show Messiah, about a second coming.

I really hope this doesn’t upset or offend anyone and people can share their beliefs and thoughts openly and without prejudice or judgement as I know this can be very sensitive for some people.

Following on from —binge— watching this series I did a bit of googling and it seems both Christian and Muslim regions predict this. (Not researched if any others do yet)

I’m not very well informed about different regions but the concept of this programme has really interested me, I find it fascinating that this could, maybe? actually happen!

Do you think there could be a second coming?!

(And what would it actually mean for the world? A rise in consciousness? Mass healing???)

YABU - no don't be so daft!
YANBU - yes, this could happen, why not?!

I don't even think there has been a first coming.

Puta · 03/01/2020 18:32

Lol. No.

longearedbat · 03/01/2020 18:33

No

InDubiousBattle · 03/01/2020 18:33

No! But then I don't believe there was ever a first coming.

HoneysuckleSpeck · 03/01/2020 18:33

No.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/01/2020 18:35

If there were... (and I'm not religious) who on earth would believe him or her?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/01/2020 18:35

No

I don’t believe there was a first coming

Aibuornotoop · 03/01/2020 18:35

I don’t think so but who knows? We’ll find out if it happens

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 18:36

Nope, and anyone who claimed to be the second coming would be sectioned at best, and stoned to death at worst.

ManualFlusherSnot · 03/01/2020 18:37

OP, I just wanted to say I just finished watching messiah and I really enjoyed it.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 03/01/2020 18:37

No. Still need convincing there was a first.

TheThingWithFeathers · 03/01/2020 18:38

There wasn't even a first coming! Hmm

LuluBellaBlue · 03/01/2020 18:38

To those that don’t believe there was a first one, do you think Jesus was totally made up?

Genuinely curious as tbh I’m not sure what I believe, but want to believe in some connection of sorts. Like connection to soul, higher self so perhaps that’s why this programme has intrigued me.

A few years back nothing religious Would have interested me but maybe that’s middle age creeping up Blush

Glad you enjoyed it too @ManualFlusherSnot Grin I thought the main actor was superb

I don’t prescribe to the notion that there was ever really a first messiah and think most Abrahamic religions are metaphorical.

I don’t know if there will ever be another human who manages to gain that kind following in our lifetimes. Joseph Smith (mormonism) was probably the last person to manage to gain traction as a prophet although I suppose the Catholic Church still sanctifies saints...

I do often wonder if we’re on track to experience the four horsemen of the apocalypse but I didn’t expect two overweight, past their best, crazy haired politicians to be leading the charge tbh.

maddening · 03/01/2020 18:39

Well in this day and age, if you were visited by angels and had a pregnancy following no sex at all would you tell anyone? and if you did, would anyone believe you?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 18:40

I genuinely think 'Jesus' was a really good conman, and his mom was a really good liar.

I think a man who convinced people he was the son of God did exist. People can get converted to religion now when we know so much more about the world so it's not unreasonable to believe that he found it fairly easy to convert people with limited knowledge of how the world came to be and all of life's little mysteries

Mistlewoeandwhine · 03/01/2020 18:40

If someone came along preaching for people to share their worldly goods, take care of the poor, sick and elderly, to not get involved in violence but turn the other cheek, well, it didn’t work out too well for Corbyn did it...
Though at least they didn’t literally crucify him.

Ronia · 03/01/2020 18:41

The Second Coming drama starring Christopher Ecclestone years back was brilliant. Must look into Messiah.

Igotthisjustabout · 03/01/2020 18:41

I totally have faith there will be a second coming.
I believe the bible to be true and historical records have proved things in the bible happened (historians, archealogists etc)
So I believe the book of Revelation will happen too.
I am waiting to be ridiculed but stand firm in my belief Smile

mbosnz · 03/01/2020 18:42

I don't think there was a first.

I believe there was a person called Jesus.

I do not believe he was the son of God.

All we have to substantiate this is a heavily edited book, (The Nicene Congress at which they agreed the Nicene Creed) that has been rewritten more times than Goldilocks on which to base any such belief.

TSSDNCOP · 03/01/2020 18:42

Not totally made up, but biblically enhanced enough to appeal to the masses at a time they were able to be manipulated.

The fundamentals are still good and true; though really shouldn’t kill etc, it’s just that we have CGI now for the parting of the sea.

madcatladyforever · 03/01/2020 18:43

I don't even believe in the firSt one. I've never witnessed a miracle or a supernatural event and I don't believe it all happened.

ManualFlusherSnot · 03/01/2020 18:43

He really was LuluBellaBlue and he had a really kind face.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 18:44

@Igotthisjustabout how do you think you would know whether you could believe someone?

Like you get preachers in town centres. Would you believe someone who just stood there and said "i am the second coming". Do you think you'd just know when you saw them if they were genuine or not?
