Someone has stolen my takeaway

[light hearted ish]

Ordered on one of the big delivery groups for some food to be delivered, unfortunately the driver delivered to the wrong house, where the woman has happily accepted her free order of food!

WIBU to search the bins of every house on the street where the driver was last seen?

Have ordered pizza now, but didn't want pizza and we're £50+ down until a refund is issued. HANGRY!

Shock My worst nightmare.

Jollitwiglet · 09/11/2019 21:29

Hopefully it will give her the shits Grin

Pilot12 · 09/11/2019 21:31

This is why I always pay in cash on delivery!

LoonyLunaLoo · 09/11/2019 21:32

Our next door neighbour stole ours once. I saw the car pull up and thought, ‘oh they’re getting a takeaway too’ but no, it was ours. I knocked on his door and he denied all knowledge too 😵 then the takeaway driver had the cheek to claim he’d delivered it already... yeah to next door!

SallyLovesCheese · 09/11/2019 21:40

We had our new next door neighbours happily accept our takeaway about a week after we'd moved in. According to the restaurant they regularly delivered to them so when our address came up the driver just assumed it was next door. Fortunately they sent the order out to us again quickly (can't believe this didn't happen for you, OP!). I was puzzled as to why they didn't question the delivery of a takeaway, I couldn't believe they'd be so cheeky! If I had one paid for arrive at my door I'd say it wasn't ours!

chellochello · 09/11/2019 21:47

This has happened to me too - i Uber eats a mac Donald's for my kids tea the while we were in the middle of moving house and had no food in at all - watched it on the app being dispatched and the driver coming into our street then the food just didn't show up - rang Mac Donald's and Uber and they said it was delivered so someone in our street must have happily accepted it for free - I didn't want to pay for another takeaway so poor kids ended up having toast for tea rather than the Mac Donald's treat they were expecting - did get a refund from Uber a few days later and discount of a future order but we were just so annoyed that someone could just take someone else's food - glad we moved out of that street!

PurpleSproutingSomething · 09/11/2019 21:48

I've had the opposite where at an old address a driver knocked on the door, they'd mistaken say 10 school street with 10 college street as they were connected, it was a very long road. So we told them where school street was and sent them on their way.

I called the restaurant and they said they'd call the delivery company, but she'd spoken to the driver who had delivered it to the address, I did try explaining it wasn't mine.

I don't think deliveroo/uber eats/ just eat let you pay on delivery.

I hope she gets the shits and heartburn.

I even posted on a local facebook group Grin

Thank you for indulging me. I will put my marigolds on and go searching!

My Dad once dashed back into work on his way home with a takeaway for himself on his front passenger seat. He was in for 10 minutes and when he got back out to his car he found his passenger window smashed. He had a couple of hundred pounds in the glove box, some technological items etc and was relieved to see nothing had been stolen.

Until he got home and realised the CF had stolen his takeaway!

Hoppinggreen · 09/11/2019 21:53

My Mum called me last Saturday night to thank me for sending her a takeaway pizza. She hadn’t managed much of it but sdad had finished it
I hadn’t sent it!
About an hour later the Dominos driver came back for it and got quite annoyed that they had eaten it.

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2019 21:55

DH once ordered a pizza for delivery then realised he had selected the wrong house number from the drop down box. He had to linger around the corner outside the wrong house to intercept it. Grin

ffswhatnext · 09/11/2019 22:06

When it happens I contact the place first, not the app.

They ask the driver what happened and if they fucked up, a replacement is sent. Some, of course, want to do this with some proof to protect their own asses if I've already paid.
And if I'm paying at the door, and it happened I would want my refund.

If using an app, I then don't contact them and get a refund. Well unless the restaurant are being dicks and not sending out stuff I haven't received.

JustEat has strongly advised me to never order from a big chain of chicken place. I've tried several different places, and even to different addresses. I really tried to get it to work, because it's not local. But every time they fucked it up. The last fuck-up was their final chance to redeem themselves and they royally fucked up. Send me 2 drinks and spilt the gravy everywhere. A least I should have been grateful the gravy didn't spill over the food. Alas, all that tasty chicken, corn and fries either never made the journey, or sat alone, wondering where his comrades had disappeared to.

ffswhatnext · 09/11/2019 22:09

And yes I've accepted other peoples deliveries. Either the driver has mixed them up and wants to simply replace them. If he hasn't delivered them yet, then yes. Others nope.

Another time-ordered delivery and someone else answered the door. Brought the food in, and not ours.

It happens.

Tryingtoslim · 09/11/2019 22:10

When I was a student this happened but I’m reverse, so maybe it was a misunderstanding. A delivery driver knocked on our back door which was strange as most people use the front so my housemate thought one of us in the house must have ordered and got it sent to the back. He accepted it then put it in the group chat, but it was none of ours.. but by then it was too late and we had over £20 of kfc in our house that some poor sod was waiting forGrin

ffswhatnext · 09/11/2019 22:12

Even worse when they've ordered pizza and you've ordered an Indian. Really easy mistake to make. Heres small pizzas fit in bags, so not unusual to have them with all the trimmings together, and drinks in a different bag. It's when you close the door and realise, by which time the driver is gone.

MidniteScribbler · 09/11/2019 22:13

I had that once. Waited for a takeaway that never arrived. Rang the business and they said it had been delivered. No it certainly has not. Finally got them to remake and deliver, and the boss arrived and the delivery driver and had a big argument on the driveway. Turns out that some 'young girl' took it. Pointed out that it was 40yo me and son that lived there, no young girls. I think some girl walking along saw him pull up, and said that she lived there and would take it in. Cheeky fucker.

ffswhatnext · 09/11/2019 22:15

Hope the students enjoyed my kfc 🤣

sewinginscotland · 09/11/2019 22:16

I don't think you'd be unreasonable to start a full blown witch hunt with torches Grin

I hope that you have your food and can't believe someone would accept a takeaway that they hadn't ordered. Not an issue here because the takeaway driver knows us well.

safariboot · 09/11/2019 22:17

Yeah, after a couple of delivery glitches ordering directly from a chain takeaway, I switched to paying cash on delivery. That way if there is a SNAFU I don't have to chase my money.

Lulualla · 09/11/2019 22:21

Ooh! This kind of happened to us. Driver delivered to my neighbour, who then sent me a txt and brought it round to my house. They thought maybe I'd fallen asleep with the kids or something and hadn't heard the door. Twenty minutes later, the driver showed up at my house with my order because he's realised what he'd done on tbe way out of the street so had the restaurant redo the order. I was happily munching away on my food! So I got 2 sets because he didn't want to take it back.

stucknoue · 09/11/2019 22:24

I had a pizza delivery arrive about an hour ago, yet again it was the house down the road - long road and the second and third digits are reversed compared to ours. Their daughter is severely dyslexic and has discalculia

Orangecake123 · 09/11/2019 22:39

Your pain is real OP.

Flowers

My father has accepted a pizza he didn't order.

GoKartMozart · 09/11/2019 22:40

Ds once ordered to his girlfriends house, which was admittedly tricky to find. The driver called ds who realised he was through the alley in the next Street so told the driver to wait and he'd come to him.

By the time he put his shoes on and walked the three or four minutes to the next Street he was just in time to see the driver being put into the back of the police car for no licence or insurance....

The nice officer did take pity on ds and handed over his food, ds scuttled away rather quickly.

managedmis · 09/11/2019 22:41

That's very annoying

PurpleSproutingSomething · 09/11/2019 22:46

My first mumsnet flowers. Thanks all, it bloody was KFC and from Just eat so lesson learned there, I only ordered because I've never had KFC before! Still haven't!

My au pair called me a few weeks ago to say thank you for the burger delivery, but she didn't eat much of it due to her diet and the kids weren't that keen as it was covered in mayo.

I've never used a online delivery service.......so they clearly ate someone else's food.
