Someone has stolen my takeaway

[light hearted ish]

Ordered on one of the big delivery groups for some food to be delivered, unfortunately the driver delivered to the wrong house, where the woman has happily accepted her free order of food!

WIBU to search the bins of every house on the street where the driver was last seen?

Have ordered pizza now, but didn't want pizza and we're £50+ down until a refund is issued. HANGRY!

I can't believe people would except a takeaway that wasn't for them.
I've had takeaway delivered to us not ordered so we said no it's not us usually NDN .

Alez · 10/11/2019 08:27

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll quite a few takeaways near me actually deliver for orders from their own websites, so it doesn't have to involve a middle man. I was actually interested if it did make a difference to price if you ordered through deliveroo or direct for one place last weekend - it was 50p cheaper through the takeaways website. In the end I went for deliveroo because I know they have policies if something goes wrong (like not delivering!) And I'd never ordered from there before. I guess takeaways might also swallow some of the cost of the delivery sites, but they must also get increased customers as you find new places by searching so I don't feel bad about it. I couldn't have collected from them either as it was 1.5 miles away and I don't have a car (and more to the point, i was busy at home)

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 10/11/2019 08:34

I can't see why they can't issue a password with each order. If you can't say the password you don't get the food.

Mariposa123 · 10/11/2019 08:41

I had a Chinese delivered a few months ago while pregnant (and therefore starving). I opened it up and noticed a few items weren’t quite what I’d ordered, but couldn’t be bothered to complain. I just stared ripping it all out when I get another knock. It was the delivery driver, who was in a real panic Because he’d handed over the wrong order. I had to hastily rebox the rice I’d poured out!

I did feel bad but figured he should have checked before he handed over the food to me!

Highlights12 · 10/11/2019 08:42

We ordered once through just eat but the place had recently changed its name so was a bit confusing. Anyway it arrived & we ate it next thing someone at the door with the same order, told them we'd already recieved it but they said keep it as we'd paid upfront. The second order looked disgusting so went in bin.

YabaDabaBoo · 10/11/2019 08:49

My brother in law put his takeaway in the car and quickly nipped back into the restaurant to grab some cutlery. He was there for less than 2 mins and someone had opened his door and stolen the takeaway. He hadn’t bothered locking his door as he was parked right outside. He was relieved though as he had about £40 in the glove compartment which hadn’t been touched.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2019 08:59

Ok, thanks to this thread I'm really craving pizza and it's only 9am.

RedElephants · 10/11/2019 08:59

I had Tesco try to delivery several crates to me once too, only for us the roads were eg; Park Street and Parkway, the roads are a T junction, so you drive down Park Street to the Junction where you then can either turn left or right on to Parkway, there is a no 13 on both..
The delivery driver was most confused..

itsaboojum · 10/11/2019 09:02

"Who are the 5% who have voted YABU?"

Presumably they’re the 5% who have bothered to read the original post.

The OP's actual question was "WIBU to search the bins of every house on the street where the driver was last seen?" and that is what the 5% have answered.

The 5% would probably agree that the OP is perfectly entitled to feel angry and annoyed about the situation, but that’s isn't what she asked.

RedElephants · 10/11/2019 09:04

Foodiefan2019
We live semi rurally, we phone the shop direct to get a delivery.
Not sure I would use a delivery service to be honest, especially with all the complaining I see about them on a local face book page.

BearSoFair · 10/11/2019 09:10

We've never had a takeaway we ordered delivered to the wrong address, but in the last couple of months we've had Deliveroo turn up 3 times with food we know nothing about! We wouldn't dream of accepting it though, I can't believe some people do Shock

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 10/11/2019 09:33

Ocado was delivering the Christmas shop, and I got called into work. So DH was responsible for taking it in and putting it away. I told him to put the couple of frozen items in the bottom drawer of the freezer. He sent me. A message saying he had put it all away, but had had to rearrange the freezer a bit. I just thought he hadn’t listened to putting it in the drawer... When I got home I went to the freezers (we also have one in the garage) and there were all kind of random items. Cornettos, smoked salmon, canapés. I rang Ocado and it transpired the driver had delivered a couple of bags of frozen stuff of another customers by mistake. They said thanks for letting them know and to keep the items. I was finding random things weeks later where DH had managed to fit it all in!

My son and his friends ordered pizza to my house
There are two streets near me - X St North and X St South
We live in the South, and the streets are joined, so are really just one long street but with 2 sets of numbering
They waited an hour, called dominoes, they said it had been delivered
Son explained about the North and South and said driver must have gone to the wrong one.
Dominoes sent the order again.
Son stood outside for half an hour waiting for delivery driver
Saw the driver drive to the other, North, end of the street, knock on the door, get turned away (presumably for the second time) and then THROW three large pizzas into a ditch before driving off, all why my son is running towards him, waving his arms and shouting 'That's my pizza!' at the top of his voice
They took photographs of the pizzas, which had all spilled out of their boxes and reported it again to the pizza company.
They did get a refund and a lot of pizza and extras delivered to them by someone else, but by that time they were starving

It’s not about being lazy, it’s about seeing the whole menu online, being able to order by pressing buttons rather than yelling down the phone to someone who is working in a noisy environment and being able to pay by card. None of those things are possible if I contact my local takeaways direct

dottiedodah · 10/11/2019 10:38

We live in the Super" Burbs " where else! Have only just got Deliveroo in the last few months . We occasionally order (mostly DC TBH).However would not dream of accepting a take out we didnt order! This is theft pure and simple . Who would eat in a Restaurant and expect the next table to pay FFS ! no different IMO.

Junkmail · 10/11/2019 10:43

This happened to us recently! I just immediately called the store and complained and they resent the order. We didn’t have to wait for a refund? I don’t trust any of my neighbours anymore (no idea who took it)—thieves!!

Perihelion · 10/11/2019 11:40

Restaurants and take aways are supposed to charge the same for food in their premises/ websites as on Deliveroo.
It may be different for large chains, but Deliveroo, in addition to a sign up fee, generally take 30% cut of the bill, plus delivery charge. If the weather's bad and not many bike delivery people are working, the system falls apart and it's impossible to get through to Deliveroo support line, to find out if anyone is coming to pick up the food that's been prepared for a specific pick up time.
I don't like Deliveroo etc, they seem like a nice idea, but I think the long term effects on prices and choice will be damaging.

GabsAlot · 10/11/2019 11:50

Not really sausageroll-on some apps it does actually say please show the card you used to order-its not rude its just double checking like when a parcel arrives and you have to be over 18

ffswhatnext · 10/11/2019 11:59

It's not always deliberate theft though.
Two neighbours order food.
Neighbour food comes from the same company. It happens lol. Open door, see food that resembles what they have ordered and takes food.
The driver goes off and you start opening everything. Reality hits. It's not yours and could be anyone's.

So you contact the app and explain the situation. They don't have a clue where that food should be. So they tell you to keep it and refund. Repeat offenders are blocked.

If say both pizzas came from Dominoes you can let them know. But they will tell you the same keep it.

Would you really want your food going from the restaurant to some randoms person house, back on the bike and delivered to you?
Never mind wondering what they might have done to it, you would be lucky to find anything not half-eaten.

Nothing to do with cf's or theft, just human error. Good restaurants know when you're not taking the piss and don't want to lose you. Those that go straight for the refund, I will use only when I have no choice.

Surely the people who nicked it would worry about being caught out?

pinkmagic1 · 10/11/2019 13:33

Ordered an Indian a couple of weeks ago and it arrived after about 40 minutes. Unwrapped the food to find a Chinese! About 5 minutes later there was a knock at the door and our Indian arrived followed hot on his tail by the driver that had delivered the Chinese looking very panicked!

reallyrandomwords · 10/11/2019 13:50

Once ordered a Chinese and an Indian, very different stated delivery times, but they both arrived at the same time and were having an interesting discussion on the doorstep when I opened the door, both insisting the other must be at the wrong house! Nope... we just couldn't agree on what we wanted lol

The other interesting one we had was when we had a Chinese delivered. The driver (shop owner!) managed to lock himself out of the car on our drive, engine still running and everything! Took us nearly an hour of helping him to get into the car before we finally managed it, he then gave us the other two orders that he'd had sat in his car going cold the entire time for free as he couldn't deliver it anymore... result!

Pipsandpops · 10/11/2019 16:18

Bit off topic but do you tip the delivery person? We are waiting for food to be delivered -first time ever-and we don’t know if we are supposed to tip or not.

ffswhatnext · 10/11/2019 16:28

It really depends if I tip of not.
If it comes early and appears to be the food I ordered I tip.
On-time it depends.
Late haha, no.

Also, don't tip if the delivery person has an attitude. One miserable driver here looks miserable, never smiles, or talks, shame because the food is amazing, even made a joke about it once, nothing lol. If they call me and tell me to go down to get it, I don't tip.
