Someone has stolen my takeaway

[light hearted ish]

Ordered on one of the big delivery groups for some food to be delivered, unfortunately the driver delivered to the wrong house, where the woman has happily accepted her free order of food!

WIBU to search the bins of every house on the street where the driver was last seen?

Have ordered pizza now, but didn't want pizza and we're £50+ down until a refund is issued. HANGRY!

I was enraged a couple of weeks ago when a colleague gleefully told me he’d had a free takeaway wrongly delivered to his house the previous night. Smug git.

Colouringaddict · 11/11/2019 19:44

I had a weeks worth of shopping from Iceland delivered to someone else, who took the order in and signed my name! Had a terrible time convincing them it hadn’t arrived here, when they redelivered half of it was missing or wrong. New driver apparently. When I called the call centre he told me that they’d had a computer issue so had to manually check everything by hand, just as I found a printout of my order in one of the bags

Ratherberightthanhappy · 11/11/2019 19:48

Did somebody say..... Just Eat?

CheekyWombat101 · 11/11/2019 19:51

It could be an accident! My household has taken in takeaways that weren’t ours twice 😬 we were in a professional house share and people were constantly ordering takeaways, and it was just the done thing to accept the delivery if you were near the door when it buzzed. Never questioned whether or not it was at the wrong address, but would bring it in. Both times we accepted the deliveries, realised they weren’t ours and rang the takeaways, but they said to keep them because they can’t accept them back now anyway! So... before you rifle through bins... it COULD be an accident!

sophe · 11/11/2019 20:04

So you answer the door and there's a bloke with a take away you did not order saying 'here is your take away'. Are there really people out there who won't instantly say "you have got the wrong address mate. We didn't order anything? " People who will just say 'thank you very much, close the door, sit down in the front of the tele and gleefully snaffle their windfall? Jeez.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 11/11/2019 20:16

Are all of you truly too lazy to actually telephone local takeaway and go and collect your order, thus ensuring that what you bring home is actually what you want?

I don't drive and the takeaways that we use aren't nearby (the 2 that are nearby 1 is so bad it has the lowest just eat ratings of the town and the other has a 1* hygiene rating with the council) so I'd either be adding at least £5-7 extra each way with taxi fare or they'd be stone cold by the time I get home. Makes perfect sense...(!!!)

Merryweather80 · 11/11/2019 20:28

There's no delivery, just eat or Ubereats of any shape here. Although from the sound of it they are unreliable I have only one place I can order from that delivers. Just one. Even if I decided to collect the choice only slightly improves to thee. One of which I wouldn't feed to my cat. Slightly jealous of you all (and pregnant hangry).

RUOKHUN · 11/11/2019 20:36

I once had a takeaway delivered to my house mistakenly. It took me ages to get rid of the driver, because even though I insisted and insisted I didn’t order it, he kept trying to push it on me. “Oh, it’s already paid for” “Just take it”.

In the end I basically had to shut the door in his face.

Advicewel · 11/11/2019 20:38

I got a man coming to my door with a delivery one night, in fact it s happened a few times, sent them away saying wrong address. Once called for an order and I kid you not I ended up with 15 cartons of chicken pakora, called up takeaway shop and the manager came to retrieve them lol.. But honestly sad days when someone steals your dinner, it's a redneck for them when they are caught out

Newmum3200 · 11/11/2019 20:57

Clearly jealous 🤣🤣 i’m also in the sticks but would totally love to have the opportunity to wallow in such first world problems 🙈

OP i would have to hunt them down! The cheek!!!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 11/11/2019 20:59

I often get delivery drivers show up for other houses.. either 8 thingy street (we’re round the corner on 8 thingy court) or because we’re maisonettes for my upstairs neighbour.. happens the other way round as well. It would never occur to do anything other than direct to the right house, and we don’t live in a “naice” area. I can see how it could maybe happen by mistake if two people ordered something similar, but otherwise nope!

BlueJava · 11/11/2019 21:08

We had £80 work of food delivered to the wrong house - I called uber eats and they refunded us.

JacksonPillock · 11/11/2019 22:48

Did somebody say..... Just Eat?

🙋

Was I not supposed to?

Antigon · 11/11/2019 23:30

Fair enough, then - I stand corrected if they add a charge on at the end, ostensibly for delivery, payable by the customer, and which covers all of the added costs of using their middleman services - and then don't charge the takeaway any extra. I'd be very surprised if that is the case, though.

Depends on the ta

Wrongly delivered takeaway almost caused a huge fight in my house once. DH wanted pizza and I wanted a chippy. He orders it and an hour later i answer the door to a pizza delivery. I was furious.

Put it on the table, went to the bathroom, composed myself so I didn’t just explode and got back to hear DH and the neighbour laughing at how we’d got his pizza, just as the chippy delivery arrived

lyralalala · 11/11/2019 23:42

(It as my turn to choose, hence the fury)

Mulhollandmagoo · 11/11/2019 23:45

YABU for not going and knocking on every door on your street to get your food back 😂

PurpleSproutingSomething · 11/11/2019 23:54

Ha, thanks for the support everyone.

I was never going to go rifling through bins and I would never call the police over a stolen takeaway! I hope it was a mistake and I hope they enjoyed it.
We'll get our refund soon enough, but I'm taking it as a sign from the universe I'm not ready to indulge in such delights as KFC!

I did remember after someone else posted waaaay up there :waves hand round: that when I lived in my old house, ex and I ordered pizza and under 5 minutes later there was the same pizza place at our door. We did realise it probably wasn't ours and directed them to the right address.

My BF was so mad, he was very hangry. I asked him yesterday if we'd laugh about it one day, he said no.
Clearly he needs more time.

Confused about the rural comment. I live rurally too, and there are no local takeaways! I use JustEat so that I can get food from 5 miles away and can be home without having to disturb my son if it's just us in the house, me eating later than him, and save the fuel.
I have looked directly at prices and couldn't see any difference to ordering from the restaurant and ordering from the app.
I'm pretty sure Uber and Deliveroo don't deliver this far out, and I can't imagine fast food being kept hot compared with traditional takeaway dishes.
Very thankful for apps as we could only get Chinese food delivered from 1 or 2 restaurants before this type of business started.
But, never had my food go missing! Grin

purplebunny2012 · 12/11/2019 00:30

Just checked. No, can't get Uber Eats or Deliveroo here, so will stick to JustEat

purplebunny2012 · 12/11/2019 00:47

Did somebody say..... Just Eat?

Thankfully that bloody awful annoying campaign doesn't put me off using them

CeCeDrake · 12/11/2019 08:21

Took me 12 hours to click on this- possibly the most spine tingling mumsnet post I’ve come across.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 12/11/2019 08:24

Oh we should reinstate the death penalty for this. And also for not loading your shopping straight into bags as the self-service tills Grin

Flowers for you, OP. I would have been very disappointed too.

Tensixtysix · 12/11/2019 08:27

Wish I could get food delivered out here in the sticks...
