Baylis & Harding is shit isn't it?

It's all I see in the shops, beautifully packaged and expensive sets. However having sampled them I am always left underwhelmed.

The bottles look like they've been made as cheaply as possible. They buckle the moment you've opened them.
The fragrances are so minor as to be virtually unnoticeable.
Same with the creams and body lotions.
They always seem all style and no substance.

Or am I being unreasonable?

As an aside they are among the most donated unused items our charity gets for raffles. So they do have a use Grin

Aldi have a knock off version which is way better. The rhubarb and rose hand wash is devine and costs 75p.

Darkbendis · 05/11/2019 20:26

£2 for a big bottle of decent handwash? Yes, please, thank you! But posh? Nope, it isn't.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 20:27

It's called Fuzzy Duck which is a marvellous Spoonerism so credit to them for that Grin.

Dear me, I forgot the hazelnut, the lowest of the low in nut world. Surpassed in it's disgustingness only by the walnut.

People should give more cheese.

Sacrilege Shock

B&H was founded in 1968, MB in 1971, so if anything MB is the over-priced rip off.

Not that I buy either, but I don’t get why one particular brand gets so much hate when there so much rubbish in the shops.

MrsHardbroom · 05/11/2019 21:14

I won some in the school raffle. Utter shite, the soap dried my hands out horribly.

CrowleysBentley · 05/11/2019 21:39

I bought DD a bayliss and harding candle for her Christmas stocking a couple of years ago. The whole house smelled like burnt sugar when she lit it, she loved it, the rest of us did not.

Proseccoagain · 05/11/2019 21:53

I only use the liquid handwash, it's fine.

DivisionBelles · 05/11/2019 22:02

Nothing says, 'I have no idea what you like, or what to buy you more than a Baylis and Harding gift set'. They are shit. My DM, who should definitely know me by now, has form for buying these. They go straight in my raffle donation box.

RightOnTheEdge · 05/11/2019 22:09

I'm absolutely shocked that FR has been dragged into this.
I really love them and nobody ever buys me any.
I didn't know they inspired so much hate Shock
Please send all your unwanted FR in my direction.
I'll love you forever Grin

Wizzbangpop · 05/11/2019 22:11

The mandarin and grapefruits scent is awful
But some of the cranberry / festive scents aren't that bad

FuckyNel · 05/11/2019 22:12

Glad your DH is well @DuckWillow Smile

Greenleafer19 · 05/11/2019 22:13

I get given this crap every Xmas from ppl at work.. Its either a 'last minute job' or 'I couldn't be asked to put some thought into ur present' & yes I recycle this crap!

shearwater · 05/11/2019 22:33

What's Tresemme a copy of?

MyOtherProfile · 05/11/2019 22:48

This is it. One of my favourite soap smells. And it's available from Waitrose so don't you go telling me B and H isn't posh enough.

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 22:49

I specifically said I WILL EAT FR I'm not giving it away, it's possibly chocolate.

Earslaps · 05/11/2019 23:04

It's crap for the sake of buying presents for people who don't want or need them. Maybe 5% of the spend on B&H is people who have actually thought the recipient might really like it Vs 95% panic buying got the sake of it.

I'm not an eco warrior, but I'm getting so fed up with all the stuff produced for the sake of it. I'm also feeling irrationally annoyed by the endless advent calendars with tiny samples of things that just create more and more waste.

SchadenfiendeUnmortified · 06/11/2019 08:44

Shampoo and conditioner.

SchadenfiendeUnmortified · 06/11/2019 08:45

Come on, keep ferrero rocher out of this. If it's served at ambassadors receptions then its good enough for me

Agree Wizzy - and if Mrs Doyle thins it's good enough for visiting bishops, who m I to argue?

namechangenumber2 · 06/11/2019 09:17

Not B&H, but the knock off Molton Brown handwash in Aldi is really good!

LaurieMarlow · 06/11/2019 09:20

What's Tresemme a copy of?

There’s an Eastern European brand that’s exactly the same as tresemme, but I can’t for the life of me remember the name.

MadisonAvenue · 06/11/2019 10:07

My mother in law buys me a Baylis and Harding gift set every Christmas and has done for some years now. It's horrible stuff. I tried it the first time she bought it and the shower gel was so watery and wouldn't lather, it left my skin feeling really dry too.

Ever since, I've taken it to the charity shop after Christmas.

We were laughing last Christmas about the fact that our son's girlfriend has now been accepted as an in law because MIL bought her a Baylis and Harding set too.

zingally · 06/11/2019 10:52

Yes!

I think it used to be one of those brands considered "higher end", but now it's literally everywhere, garden centres, Boots, Superdrug.

It's lost its gloss because the owners were too keen to get it stocked in too many places. So it lost its exclusivity.

shearwater · 06/11/2019 10:58

It's not really a copy if the other brand isn't popular or well known in the UK, then.
