To ask how people 'accidentally' get pregnant?

Butterflyone12e · 31/10/2019 16:15

I honestly do wonder how people say they fell pregnant by accident. Of course I can understand the horrific situation if sexual abuse/rape was involved but do people honestly fall accidentally pregnant?

I'm 33 years of age and have never fallen pregnant because I've not wanted to fall pregnant.

I wondered what peoples stories are. I really disagree with terminations (again unless medial or abuse).

Because sometimes contraception fails.

Meshy23 · 31/10/2019 16:18

You understand basic biology right?

And that no contraception is 100% fail safe?

Not complicated

Witchinaditch · 31/10/2019 16:18

By not using contraception and thinking oh this one time will be ok.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 31/10/2019 16:18
Hmm
MonstranceClock · 31/10/2019 16:18

I’m incredibly fertile. I’ve managed to get pregnant with a condom and morning after pill.

You disagreeing with abortion is entirely irrelevant. You clearly just want to wind people up.

Hedgehogblues · 31/10/2019 16:18

How smug are you?

lazylinguist · 31/10/2019 16:19

Hmm So you've never heard of contraceptive failure?

If you disagree with terminations, don't have one. It's none of your business whether or why other people have them.

BillThePony · 31/10/2019 16:20

I got pregnant with a coil. Not sure why I am to blame there

BaronessBomburst · 31/10/2019 16:20

Depends how much sex you're having.
Contraception isn't 100% reliable. If you're going at it like a rabbit between the ages of 16 and 50 the chances are you will get knocked up at some point.

Sunflower234 · 31/10/2019 16:21

To be honest, I think that most of the time it’s not contraceptive failure.

It’s just people being human and making mistakes. Getting caught in the moment/ not thinking it will happen to them or just not caring enough to use contraception.

GummyGoddess · 31/10/2019 16:21

I never had an accident, had planned dc1 just before 31. Shortly before 32 the morning after pill failed and tada! I became pregnant. Best accident ever, he's adorable.

I'm feeling a bit snippy, I don't understand the question. When I was younger I've had condoms break but only noticed after and took MAP then too but clearly didn't fail then.

makingmammaries · 31/10/2019 16:21

Because they’d been told they were infertile, in some cases, and turned out not to be. Or they had their tubes tied and it wasn’t done properly. There are really quite a lot of ways to get pregnant accidentally.

Amanduh · 31/10/2019 16:22

I got pregnant on the pill. Because it isn’t 100% reliable. How hard is that to understand?
Nice abortion throw in there too 🙄

gwenneh · 31/10/2019 16:22

I was charting my very regular cycle. My ovulation date was off. We had sex.

Oops.

turnthebiglightoff · 31/10/2019 16:22

OP are you going to reply to anyone or have you had enough of being a goady fucker today?

DragonMamma · 31/10/2019 16:23

Another incredibly fertile person over here too. The longest I TTC was about a week (for my second). I came off the Pill and 10dpo I was pregnant.

First time I was on a pill with a pretty poor (for a pill) success rate. Think it was 97/98%, which I conveniently found out after I got pregnant.

Butterflyone12e · 31/10/2019 16:24

Yes I get some contraception fails but if you know a condom splits, then surely you'd take the morning after pill?

And if you're on the pill, and you've been sick then you know you need additional contraception.

SorryWhatNow · 31/10/2019 16:24

I took my contraceptive pill at the same time every night like clockwork as the thought of baby #2 gave me the fear! Currently sitting 13 weeks pregnant with baby #2, this baby is very muched loved already however definitely didn't feature in my immediate plans.

GreenJumperDay · 31/10/2019 16:24

YABU I was on the mini pill when i became pregnant. I took the pill religiously at the same time every day. The GP wasn't surprised, he said 'it happens' no contraception is 100% reliable.
I.dont see what your opinion on abortion has to do with anything Hmm

@turnthebiglightoff calm your pants. I took 10 minutes to reply because I don't spend my whole day on Mumsnet.

There's no gloating on anything here, I was genuinely wondering what peoples stories were. I had realised contraception could fail so often. Plus my understanding is ovulation is really only a few days per month so again it just seems unlucky if you were to have failed contraception whilst ovulating.

OP posts:
MonstranceClock · 31/10/2019 16:27

I’ve been on various contraception. I’ve been pregnant 8 times in total. Some people are just really fertile!

BilboBercow · 31/10/2019 16:28

I had a contraceptive failure. With the benefit of hindsight it was probably user error. People fuck up even when they're relatively responsible most of the time.

I kept my unplanned baby and much as circumstance could have been more ideal, it wasn't the end of the world and she's a much loved 6 year old now.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 31/10/2019 16:28

Because a condom breaks and the MAP doesn’t work.
Because no form of contraception is 100%.
Because they’d been told they were infertile/menopausal.
Because humans being fallible means mistakes are made.

Any of that ringing any bells, goady pants? Or do we need to spell it out in larger letters so you can read it from your moral high ground?

MrsPear · 31/10/2019 16:28

I was sterilised.

It failed .

I nearly died of ectopic.

Explain how I could have avoided that accident op
