To ask how people 'accidentally' get pregnant?

I honestly do wonder how people say they fell pregnant by accident. Of course I can understand the horrific situation if sexual abuse/rape was involved but do people honestly fall accidentally pregnant?

I'm 33 years of age and have never fallen pregnant because I've not wanted to fall pregnant.

I wondered what peoples stories are. I really disagree with terminations (again unless medial or abuse).

My three pregnancys...

  1. using contraception. Complete shock
  2. planned, took a couple of months.
  3. had unprotected sex with DH once.

I read an article today about MAP... It's only effective if taken before ovulation apparently. Hence the failure rate. Copper coil would be a more effective form of emergency contraception.

Pretzelcoatl · 31/10/2019 16:29

Because life, ah ah, finds a way.

GeePipe · 31/10/2019 16:29

I got reaaaaalllly pissed and spent 2 days vomiting which in turn meant my pill was useless. I didnt know until after.

goodtoseeyou · 31/10/2019 16:29

God you’re annoying and smug, op.

Ffsnosexallowed · 31/10/2019 16:31

I've seen lots of ignorant posts on my FB lately along the same vein as a reaction to abortion changed in n Ireland, "if you don't want to be pregnant just keep your legs closed" adolescent

Velveteenfruitbowl · 31/10/2019 16:31

You can’t be that stupid. Even with perfect use contraceptives fail. And imperfect use isn’t always immediately apparent, not everyone notices a split condom or realises just how easy it is to screw up the pill.

BlueLips · 31/10/2019 16:31

Maybe the reason you’ve never fallen pregnant is because you’re not very fertile? If you’ve never tried, how would you know?

I am very fertile, it definitely makes it harder to stay not pregnant when not planned, I had an unplanned pregnancy when I was much younger (and a baby as a result!) - I know now that I am very fertile because I got pregnant twice (when trying) even though DH’s sperm count was so low as to make the doctors say it was virtually certain not to happen. Knowing that helped me over the feelings of stigmatisation I had from the first time round - “how could she let it happen?!” Etc

Butterflyone12e · 31/10/2019 16:31

Perhaps I shouldn't have included my views on abortion but I genuinely am interested in how people have fallen pregnant by accident.

As I've said before I didn't realise contraception fails so often. Forgive me for my ignorance on this but please there's no need to swear, be rude or derogatory towards me for asking.

Assholes not adolescent - autocorrect!

Baguetteaboutit · 31/10/2019 16:33

I really disagree with terminations (again unless medial or abuse).

So? Are you under the impression that your opinion is very important?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 31/10/2019 16:33

I've only ever fallen pregnant when planned too OP. But I realise a huge part of that is down to pure luck on my part. No contraception is 100% effective (apart from abstinence). Pills fail, condone fail, the MAP fails etc...

And abortion is nobody else's business so take your judgey pants off to the far side of fuck off.

Reallynowdear · 31/10/2019 16:34

Perhaps a little research would have been in order here OP.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/10/2019 16:34

I took my pill religiously, never missed a day. Didn't have any sickness/bugs that could have contradicted the pill. That's how I accidentally fell pregnant.

Funny how I dont even bother saying that to people who are surprised I am having another baby because the first thing you get is "yeah right" with an eye roll. I have no need to lie.

Gilead · 31/10/2019 16:34

Another one that got pregnant with a coil.

Casander · 31/10/2019 16:34

Friend of mine had a one night stand on a first date, used a condom, didn't see him again. 6 weeks later found out she was pregnant. Baby was his and condom must have split without them realising. Child is now a teen and they co-parent really well but it was a bit of a surprise at the time!

EmrysAtticus · 31/10/2019 16:34

I do think that two forms of contraception should be the norm. I think that would significantly decrease the number of accidental pregnancies. However that could be impractical in some cases I guess.

Slappadabass · 31/10/2019 16:35

Yes, perhaps you shouldn't have included your outdated views on abortion on a board that's made up of probably 99% women.
You was obviously trying to get a reaction.

BlueLips · 31/10/2019 16:36

Oh and my contraception fail was a split condom followed by the MAP within 24 hours - which clearly didn’t work...

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 31/10/2019 16:36

I honestly do wonder how people say they fell pregnant by accident.

Why? Confused why do you commit so much of your brainpower to this question? How does it affect your life whether people got pregnant on purpose or by accident? Do you not have a job? Social life?

Basketofkittens · 31/10/2019 16:36

I’ve always used condoms, never got pregnant accidentally.

Condoms are 98% effective when used perfectly, so I wonder where the other 2% comes from? Is it possible for condoms to have a tiny hole that isn’t noticed and doesn’t cause it to split?

AgeLikeWine · 31/10/2019 16:37

Gin & Wine mainly.

InsertFunnyUsername · 31/10/2019 16:37

I would stop having an opinion on other peoples sex lives too OP. Cant be healthy.

IvinghoeBeacon · 31/10/2019 16:38

People are reacting to you calling them liars. But you know that

steff13 · 31/10/2019 16:39

I got pregnant twice on the pill (resulting in 2/3 of my children) and one more time resulting in a miscarriage. I got pregnant on a Mirena IUD, which also resulted in a miscarriage. A fairly awful one at that.

Sometimes these things happen. 🤷

SnowJon · 31/10/2019 16:39

Lack of responsibility.

I cannot really believe that contraception fails as much as stated if used correctly.
