NC for this. I just read that Mark Ronson has identified as sapiosexual meaning he is attracted to intelligence. Is this a gender? I recently met someone who identifies as non-binary, she (this is one of her pronouns) is a lovely person, but I found that difficult and now this. AIBU to think I'm really out of touch and I just cant get my heard around it?

To me all these announcements just sound like a cowards roundabout route to coming out as homosexual.

The wokeys loathe homosexuals. Us lesbians in particular because we’re attracted to our own sex, not to men who identify as women. Stonewall don’t even use the word homosexual any more.

No, the sad thing is that everyone is jumping off the deep end without bothering to even read the briefest of articles to find out what's going on. It's not just a lack of critical thought; there's no thought at all.

It all reminds me of this:

hazeyjane · 20/09/2019 08:38

I thought it was a pisstake...it seems to have developed a life of its own!

I don't think so. He's a person of fame of influence. Whether serious or not, the result here is a plethora of articles full of loaded language, using terms such as 'coming out' as sapiosexual, as 'identifying as' sapiosexual. This is language that is incredibly important and specific to those who have struggled or are struggling with truly fundamental issues of sexual identity, issues which in some cases can be literally life and death. The result is degradation of the progress made around such issues, however slight. It's no laughing matter.

ShatnersWig · 20/09/2019 08:57

I know several women who have identified as sapiosexual for years. I'd never considered they were dicks.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/09/2019 09:02

So basically bisexual with a preference for intellectuals?

amandacarnet · 20/09/2019 09:05

I can understand teenagers and early twenties taking on these labels. When you are young finding your own identity can be very tough.
But at his age he really should know better. It just smacks of attention seeking.
If I met him I would say I am one, but that means I am not attracted to him.

QuimReaper · 20/09/2019 09:30

@BertrandRussell Oooh, really? Do tell?

This. It's deeply alarming that lesbianism is seen as some kind of old-fashioned and 'unwoke' biological essentialism, and God only knows how it must feel to be a gay teenager these days.

LakieLady · 20/09/2019 09:43

I read the title and thought he loved trees...

Would that make him a tree-shagger?

I’m SO thankful I came out back in the 90s. Yes, there was Section 28. But there were also strong, thriving, welcoming lesbian communities. Nowadays I’ve seen young lesbians almost in tears because of the pressure on them to accept dick. Angry

In those days I volunteered for Stonewall. Never thought I’d end up protesting their homophobic policies while they called the police on me.

Barbie222 · 20/09/2019 10:14

Is there a word for someone who's really, really repulsed by pretentiousness?

Contraceptionismyfriend · 20/09/2019 10:49

Really? We don't have heterosexuals, homosexuals, lesbians? News to me.

I don't think Mark Ronson is going to be knocking on your door

I have to agree. It's always so much more of a betrayal when this kind of damaging assertion comes from the left, the natural ground for challenging marginalization and discrimination. The current rhetoric about lesbians in particular - that they're phallophobic and should just 'get over' their genital fetish - is deeply concerning. Not only is it the kind of coercive rhetoric women have been hearing for far too long: that they shouldn't have individual autonomy over their own bodies but should place them up for grabs by any 'be-penised' person who cares to take what 'they' want, it's also the kind of BS that as recently as 10 years ago would be called out for precisely what is is. Homophobia.

We've taken a retrograde step and it's the deepest of ironies that this is the narrative emanating from within Stonewall, of all places. A lesbian recently said she'd feel safer these days at a BNP rally than Pride, because at least the far right know what a lesbian is.

What a very sad and sobering comment.

@daisychain01

I like him too! He has a nice face, nice hair and teeth... just perfick!

MadameButterface · 21/09/2019 20:47

You have all gone crazy! As have the press it would seem. There really is a very straightforward explanation if you look at the context.

Yeah but where’s the fun in that, can’t get people frothing about ‘wokeness’ etc like that can you

TheSandman · 21/09/2019 23:38

@Jesaminecollins

You don't know who Mark Ronson is? I am one of his greatest fans and here he is with Miley Cyrus.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9hcJgtnm6Q

Um? Sorry, but that left me none the wiser about anything - apart from the fact that Miley Cyrus obviously thinks she has a nice bum.

Is he the bloke that jumped from one car to the other towards the end of that video?

What else does he do?

VanGoghsDog · 22/09/2019 00:22

He's a musician, producer, DJ sort of thing - bit like Fat Boy Slim is. Did Uptown Funk (he's in the video for that).
