To ask how long your commute to work is?

Currently my trip to work is 1 hour door to door each way. I’ve got used to it and quite enjoy the alone time, particularly as it’s broken up with driving to train station, short train journey and then a walk to the office. Been offered a big opportunity in the city with a significant pay increase to match. Commute would be up to 2 hours each way door to door. Possibly a bit mad for even considering it?!

I’m interested...how long is your commute to work each day and for those who have or previously had a fairly long commute, how do you find it?!

33 min cycle or 9 min train. Or between 15-30 mins car depending on traffic. I cycle most days.

Precariously had a 1hr15 min train commute followed by 15 mins cycle. Nearly killed me.

managedmis · 09/09/2019 17:59

Same as you, one hour. I couldn't do two, I'd have to move

dowehaveastalker · 09/09/2019 17:59

45 d2d.

ProperVexed · 09/09/2019 18:00

I am a 5 minute walk away from work.....but it can take me up to 45 minutes as I take a longer route along the river bank and photograph wildlife along the way. It's the highlight of my day.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/09/2019 18:00

mine is 45-50 d2d. I wouldnt want to go over an hour however good the job

Anoni · 09/09/2019 18:00

5 minutes in the car or 10 minutes walking

user1493413286 · 09/09/2019 18:02

45-60 minutes depending on traffic. I used to do an hour and 45 mins and it was just too much. I used to leave early to avoid traffic but I was still out of the house for 12+ hours a day and my job was a stressful full on one

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 09/09/2019 18:02

No fucking way - 2 hours each way? That's insane.

My commute is a 20 minute walk or 10 minute cycle which I accept is short, but any more than an hour and the job would not be worth it for me.

mynameisMrG · 09/09/2019 18:02

Used to be 2 hours, now it’s 5 minutes. I didn’t mind commuting 2 hours as I was used to it. Looking back now I can’t believe how much of my day I wasted in the car. And if there was traffic it could be up to four hours each way

CacenCrunch · 09/09/2019 18:03

15-20 mins each way in the car 🚗

Madvixen · 09/09/2019 18:03

It was 93 mins door to door until last week, it's now down to 45 (change of role). I have done up to 2.5 each way before but i only managed 2 years of that

ShiftHappens · 09/09/2019 18:05

45 mins d2d by car

Iamacyclist · 09/09/2019 18:05

2 mins walking 😬

Subeccoo · 09/09/2019 18:07

15 mins each way by car, no option to walk as it's 10 miles of dual carriageway.

The most I've ever done is 35 mins by car, I sort of like the idea of a train commute but I'm sure the reality is different

Watsername · 09/09/2019 18:08

Currently 20 minutes cycle, but have been 2 minutes walk until very recently. Before I had children I used to do 2 hours each way. It was OK.

BuildBuildings · 09/09/2019 18:08

About 45 min drive. Maybe an hour on way back. But just 3 days a week with some home working. I've done 1.5 to 2hr each way in London. It was horrible. It really has a negative impact on quality of life.

SpringLake · 09/09/2019 18:08

2h door to door (on a good/normal day). Always has been, for the past 10 years. Although I use the trains, so I'm not concentrating on driving (that would be mad). I quite enjoy the dedicated 'me' time, to switch off from work, and back on to my home world. Even so, I wouldn't recommend it... especially if your work place isn't flexible enough to cater for the days when trains are cancelled /delayed.

Sajacas · 09/09/2019 18:09

Mine takes 90 mins. I used to have 60 d2d and thought an extra half hour wouln'nt make a difference, but it does.

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2019 18:10

Mine is 10 minutes on a bad day.

I used to have a 90 minute commute. Never again.

ghostyslovesheets · 09/09/2019 18:10

30 second if working from home

up to 4 hours if visiting some of my further away kids

generally from home to my office base can be anything from 25mins to and hour and 25 - depending on the M42

Happyspud · 09/09/2019 18:11

10 seconds from kitchen to home office. Love it! Don’t even get dressed till after my first few meetings.

AdalindMeisner · 09/09/2019 18:12

My jobs have always been 30 minutes tops. However, I have done an hour each way commute to uni (4 days a week, 9 - 4ish) and l found that tough going with young kids. Will the pay make a massive difference to your life? Do you have kids and how old are they? Does your dh/dp share the load if you have kids? All these things would play a part as to whether travelling that much for work was reasonable.

TheDarkPassenger · 09/09/2019 18:12

About 3 mins in the car. (I need my car to work as I travel all over the county before someone berates me for not walking
