I just don't get it.

He isn't even a good singer.

What is the attraction? And why did the BBC award him so much compensation?

Have you not read your own link? It explains in minute detail why he got so much compensation.

NoBaggyPants · 04/09/2019 18:36

Because they disagree with you? He is a good singer, evidenced by a sixty year career where his concerts still sell out in minutes.

He got compensation because the BBC breached his right to privacy, and then went on to fight a legal case they were never going to win. The legal costs were incredibly high because the BBC refused to admit their fault and insisted on dragging it out.

I do not think that he is a good singer!

Okay - I do understand why he got the compensation but I don't understand why he has such a huge fan base.

NoBaggyPants · 04/09/2019 18:41

That's fine, no one is forcing you to . But you'll agree that we all have different tastes?

Nanny0gg · 04/09/2019 18:41

Well, thousands of people do.

Nanny0gg · 04/09/2019 18:41

OP - who do you like/rate?

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 18:43

Of course I accept that people have different tastes.

Mine isn't him.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 04/09/2019 18:43

You don't understand that other people like some things that you don't?

TheQueef · 04/09/2019 18:45

Cliffe gives me the shudders.
I do like a bit of Rod Stewart though.

Bookworm4 · 04/09/2019 18:45

We could write a very long list of those with little talent who have long careers;
Robbie Williams
Kylie Minogue
Madonna
Shall we go on?

ShirleyPhallus · 04/09/2019 18:47

I find the elm house / kitty allegations very easy to believe, especially given the allegations against similar, high profile men that turned out to be true

That said, for an innocent party (and as he hasn’t been prosecuted for anything, that’s what he technically is), it must have been incredibly distressing to have been put through that in the public eye

As a separate point, I think Saville / Epstein / Harris et al are just the tip of the iceberg and we will see a lot more household names fall in to disrepute in the future

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 18:48

All right.

I'm obviously in a minority here. And of course I don't think that my tastes are more valid than other people's.

PortiaCastis · 04/09/2019 18:49

Showing a raid on a person's home insinuating all sorts is wrong very wrong! We have courts of law to decide innocence or guilt and the bbc does not get to decide who is guilty nor does a website
I'm not a great fan of his but I abhor trial by media and online juries coming to a verdict based on keyboard gossip

Thurmanmurman · 04/09/2019 18:51

I feel the same about Tom Jones, can’t bear his music and I find him very cringeworthy, especially when he sings Sex Bomb! 🤢

Longdistance · 04/09/2019 18:52

🤮

NoBaggyPants · 04/09/2019 18:52

The fact that people are still referring to the rumours about him, that have been proven to be unfounded, can you now understand why he is entitled to compensation? Imagine if someone made up those things about you and how that would make you feel.

I don't get it either. Aside from any allegations of foul behaviour he gives me the creeps and reminds me of a lizard.

Ugh.

My Gran loves him though!

I know people who have followed him for years. Many are older and loved him since he first started out, when most people were not aware about people being gay. I have never been a fan but I do think he was really badly treated by the police.

I worked with a woman in the past who was obsessed with Michael Jackson so it takes all sorts

user87382294757 · 04/09/2019 19:01

I find the whole 'peter pan of pop' thing a bit odd, I know MIL likes him.
