Do not understand why some women adore Cliff Richard

I just don't get it.

He isn't even a good singer.

What is the attraction? And why did the BBC award him so much compensation?

A couple of my friends are fans and I don't understand why - he is the same age as my Dad so perhaps it is some kind of father figure? - who knows....

eddiemairswife · 04/09/2019 19:05

I'm older and can remember when he first came on to the scene, and have never seen the attraction. He has a very weak and whiny singing voice.

EntirelyAnonymised · 04/09/2019 19:05

Ignoring the legal stuff.

I think he is a crush subject for a certain demographic because when he was younger he was good looking and made edgy teen rock and roll & films in the 50’s & 60’s. As his career progressed he managed to keep his squeaky clean ‘boy next door’ looks and had a very successful (if dull) easy listening solo career. All that good looking bachelor boy stuff helped keep his female fan base interested. I think he is a ‘safe’ crush for a lot of women who get to have the reminder of their teenage crush years with him but also have this 60(?) year back catalogue of material that he has made, so he’s matured along with them. No drugs or scandal though, so nothing that would frighten the horses (nothing proven).

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:05

This is one of his raunchy numbers

KurriKurri · 04/09/2019 19:06

In the town where I used to live, there was a Cliff Richard themed cafe. Picture of Cliff on the wall, Cliff calendars, Cliff memorabilia, Cliff's records playing in the background.
You had to make the decision of whether your dislike of Cliff was greater than your desire for a cup of tea. It was a weird parallel universe sort of place.

EntirelyAnonymised · 04/09/2019 19:08

That’s going earworm me for days now, jesamine

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 19:09

@EntirelyAnonymised

You have put it so much better than I.

I once thought he and Olivia might marry then I thought prapps he isn't into women?? No idea if he is btw

Butchyrestingface · 04/09/2019 19:10

Hey, several people married Donald Trump.

One woman fornicated at least 6 times with Jacob Rees Mogg.

Loving Cliff would be a piece of 🍰 compared to either of the above.

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:10

@EntirelyAnonymised

Catchy tune ?? Wink

MrsRufusdog789 · 04/09/2019 19:10

OP I do know what you mean about Cliff Richard .
He was a heartthrob for many teens and Mums in the late 50‘s but in a sexless middle of the road way . A saccharine version of Elvis . Some of his songs and performances over the years I’ve found utterly cringeworthy. Particularly the infamous Wet Wimbledon singalong he initiated . He did manage to enrage many Christians by hijacking I think a psalm and adding his own words . And as for Mistletoe and Wine ? Hmm I’ve often thought what an odd character he is .
But when I saw the footage of helicopters flying over his gated property and the coverage of the story by the Beeb I was quite shocked by it . A proverbial c/u by the Police to leak the story and the BBC has cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands and prejudiced any further action that might have been . Has kept a low profile since I understand?

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:12

Olivia is a very pretty woman - no I am not into women so don't ask!

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 19:22

I have to say that just looking at him makes my skin crawl.

OP posts:
Freshprincess · 04/09/2019 19:23

I don’t mind his films, the cheesy breaking into song all the time is right up my street. (See also Elvis films). I neither like or dislike him.

There’s plenty of popular celebs I don’t see the appeal of. But Different strokes, and all that.

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:25

Cliff Richard has had 14 number ones and 7 number one albums - well done Cliff.

I actually like this song by Sir Cliff

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:28

@SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum

Why? Are you a man?

jesuschristwtf · 04/09/2019 19:30

Because maybe, just maybe people have different tastes to you? I mean - just a guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 19:30

No I'm not a man (despite the user name). I am a woman of a certain age and can remember Cliff as a young man.

He made my skin crawl even then.

@SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum

Poor Cliff has had enough anguish with the BBC without you adding to it Jamie!

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:38

Cliff did well in Eurovision Contest!

BeepBeeeep · 04/09/2019 19:41

Congratulations. You're one of The Young Ones who is a Voice in the Wilderness. Cliff was on his Summer Holiday when the police raided his home, hence the pay out due to him being a Misunderstood Man. He's a Bachelor Boy who hasn't found a pair of Lucky Lips to kiss yet. He may meet a Living Doll, Move It and ask her Do You Wanna Dance then after finding out her name is Marianne will book The Wedding which may take place on Saviours Day and be celebrated with Mistletoe and Wine. Then he will have children who will be Wired For Sound and on his arrival will shout Daddy's Home before his wife tells him We Dont Talk Anymore.

Then she will run off with the milkman, leaving Cliff a Shadow of his former self.

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:41

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 19:42
