I just don't get it.

He isn't even a good singer.

What is the attraction? And why did the BBC award him so much compensation?

Some of his friends read this site so he might be aware of this thread

Ooooh mysterious. How do you know?

BeepBeeeep · 04/09/2019 20:33

@TomorrowsPrincess
Sorry, but that actually made me lol.
The image of cliff pushing your dad into a crocodile infested pond while singing We don't talk anymore will have me sniggering all evening. 😂

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 20:33

Bachelor Boy - this rings true for Cliff Smile

paradisedreamer · 04/09/2019 20:35

Cliff is before my time but I don't mind him. Quite enjoyed summer holiday.

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 20:42

@paradisedreamer

I did as well

I watched this and quite liked Cliff

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 20:47

He will never come out as gay due to his fundamentalist Christian beliefs.

Let's face it he's harmless, not sure why he's getting a horrible thread made about him..

PuppyMonkey · 04/09/2019 20:52

I went to see him in concert with a friend who had nobody else to go with, think it was about 2010. I have to say the lad can sing all right actually. Not my cup of tea, although DP and I have a running joke about secretly loving the song Wired for Sound.Grin

Not sure Cliff ever made “edgy” films in the 50s and 60s did he? Summer Holiday etc - edgy? Confused

Jesaminecollins · 04/09/2019 20:53

@SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum

Yes You Are Being Unreasonable - Cliff is a nice guy and I don't care what his sexuality is - Just the same as George Michael who I liked and listened to his songs - I didn't care because I admired him as an artist.

TrickyKid · 04/09/2019 20:53

Yanbu. He gives me the creeps.

Orlandointhewilderness · 04/09/2019 20:54

Personally no I don't like him. The song living doll makes my skin crawl, those lyrics are just awful. I know different standards back then but really!

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 21:00

Absolutely not a bit edgy.

And I am not opposed to Cliff because of his sexuality - just his oppression of it.

EntirelyAnonymised · 04/09/2019 21:05

No, I didn’t mean his films were edgy. He made rock and roll which was edgy at the time. He also made films. Sumer holiday absolutely was NOT edgy Grin

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 21:07

I was taken as a child to Summer Holiday.

I remember wishing that I could go on holiday on a bus and live on it.

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 04/09/2019 21:07

Well, all those young people sharing a bus - it was a bit naughty I suppose.Grin

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 04/09/2019 21:09

A lot of radio stations were told not to play his music ever, as it was so crap.

Idontwanttotalk · 04/09/2019 21:09

Each to their own.

I think he's an average singer. None of his songs are hard to sing but they are/were pleasant enough. I think he was good looking in his day so see why he had loads of female fans who continued to be fans over the decades.

What I don't understand is why he's referred to as the 'Peter Pan of pop'. He may have the same slim figure which could make him look youthful (from behind Grin) but he definitely looks his age from his face. Nothing wrong with looking his age but I don't understand why people seem blind to his wrinkles.

There's no doubt he's brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people which can only be a good thing.

Aberhonddu · 04/09/2019 21:20

I'm not really a fan of Cliff Richard, but IMO one of the funniest Comic Relief songs was The Young Ones and Cliff Richard performing Living Doll.

FoldenHoard · 04/09/2019 21:24

Justin "Mr Tumble" Fletcher does a better Cliff than Cliff does.

ginghambox · 04/09/2019 21:26

living doll Was written by Lionel Bart, yes the same guy who wrote Oliver.

Pinkarsedfly · 04/09/2019 21:30

Wired For Sound is a tune, though.

‘I like tall speakers, I like small speakers...’

PuppyMonkey · 04/09/2019 21:37

@Pinkarsedfly DP and I have to send a text to each other any time it’s played on the radio.Grin

Power from the needle to the plastic...

@MrsRufusdog789
"Some of his songs and performances over the years I’ve found utterly cringeworthy. Particularly the infamous Wet Wimbledon singalong he initiated .'
Oh no. I cringe when I remember it too. I was there and really peed off at the rain (if you got to see 30 minutes of play in a day, you couldn't get a refund on your ticket). I admit to joining in the singing, not that I liked it but just because it was something to do in the rain - like joining in the Mexican waves (I loved those).

Anyway, I get home and my neighbour over the road grabbed us as soon as we got out of the car and asked if we'd been to Wimbledon. They'd watched it and recorded it for their son and did I want a copy of their video as they saw me singing several times.

The next day I arrived at work and in reception the security screen was playing a recording of it showing me singing. Plenty of people on the shop floor had seen me so decided to poke some fun at me. I said how upset I was at seeing so little tennis and all the women were telling me that the sing along must have been so much better than watching tennis. Er, no.

The camera focussed on me at one point, unbeknown to me, for 5-6 seconds and then came back again afterwards, I think twice.

OMG, I'm so embarrassed just thinking about it.

B1tchpleeze · 04/09/2019 21:43

YANBU. He completely creeps me out!
