I have a 32inch tv in living room,my friend said it's far too small for living room.
Is it? What size tv does everyone else have ?

I hate big TVs, they just dominate everything Not sure what size ours is but its smaller than 32" and it's fine.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 13/08/2019 08:53

We have 55inch

Hugless · 13/08/2019 09:14

I'm amazed by amount of ppl with TV's in their bedrooms. Surely bedroom should be used for entertainment but f me, watching TV in bed? Serials??
If you seat close enough to 32" then it can potentially be ok. If you don't watch/ use it much then not point having a bigger one just to please others...

blackchina · 13/08/2019 09:24

@dererer

Depends on the size of your living room/lounge.

Ours is huge (18 ft X 16 ft,) so a 32" TV would look tiny.

Ours is a Sony 55", and is a perfect size for our lounge.

YesQueen · 13/08/2019 09:57

I did have a 32, upgraded to 42. My sofa is maybe 5-6ft from the TV so it's absolutely fine. Bedroom has a 28, I rarely use it

Cryalot2 · 13/08/2019 10:01

I cant have large screens as they affect my health.
Even at that we have all small screens in house. If left to myself I would unlikely have one .

whothedaddy · 13/08/2019 10:28

I have no idea how big (small) our TV is 36 inch maybe in a fairly large Georgian sitting room.
I don't have time for people that prioritize size of television over contents of a bookshelf.

littlepeas · 13/08/2019 10:29

I actually went and measured it Blush. It’s 42 inch - I thought it was smaller - it fits into the space we have for it and anything bigger would look silly. It’s actually nearly 6m from the sofa and it’s fine, but I watched game of thrones on an iPad so am clearly not that bothered about the size of a screen!

FuzzyPuffling · 13/08/2019 10:31

32". Quite big enough. I can't be doing with these enormous tvs that glower over a whole room. It doesn't make the programmes any better!

FuzzyPuffling · 13/08/2019 10:34

Also, if we had got one any bigger it would have blocked the sea view. I know which I prefer.

Pinkout · 13/08/2019 10:36

Always had a 32 inch. We don’t watch very much TV, it’s just not important to us. I think massive TV’s in small living rooms looks absolutely ridiculous.

LadyRannaldini · 13/08/2019 10:38

We've just bought a 32 inch, plenty big enough and doesn't dominate the room, I loathe TVs on walls, so naff. The shop couldn't believe we wanted it for a sitting room, thought it was for a bedroom.

ChocolateCakeAndRainbows · 13/08/2019 10:43

I have a 32 inch and always have done. A TV isn't the main entertainment in our front room so it doesn't need to be massive. It's not wanted as a feature point and I find many tvs and kind of a centre piece. 32 inches is fine. People just get snobby about it and use it as a wealth symbol. I suppose if all you ever do is watch TV then its worth spending

FunnyHappyGirl · 13/08/2019 10:44

My DP chooses the TV's (he doesn't care how I decorate the rest of the house, he just wanted a big TV) and he recently bought a 65 (upgrading from a 55). It's far too big for my liking, but it's his house too (though he's admitted it's at the limit for him also).

Using the Which! calculator above the old screen was apparently perfect for the sofa he sits on (11 feet away). I use the other sofa so am about 14 feet away and apparently the 65 inch screen is perfect for me. I'm not telling DP that though!

KUGA · 13/08/2019 10:58

I think it depends on the size of your lounge.
Someone I know has a massive tv,
It actually gives me a headache.

Lifecraft · 13/08/2019 11:02

a tv is a tv

And to think that all these years I thought is was a tin of salmon.

floppybit · 13/08/2019 11:03

I only have a 32 inch tv in the living room and my son's mates always say 'wow, your TVs tiny!' Will replace it when it breaks but it can't be too big as it has to fit in an alcove

Northie · 13/08/2019 11:08

75" for living room and 55" for bedrooms. I think it does depend on how big the room is, if I had a 32" on the wall in my lounge I genuinely wouldn't be able to see it clearly from the sofa. If you can see it and you're happy with it then tell your 'friend' to fuck off and watch her own telly

FuzzyPuffling · 13/08/2019 11:13

I have a 19" telly in the bedroom. Perfectly big enough.
Any visitor coming round and commenting that my telly was really small would be shown the perfectly average sized door.

watcheait · 13/08/2019 11:24

Blimey, some of you have whoppers!
Our bedroom TV is 19 inches and plenty big enough, while the TV in the living room is about 39 inches (haven't measured it). DH would like a larger one for the living room but I'm not keen as it would dominate and we don't spend much time watching anyway.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 13/08/2019 11:25

Wow, how rude is your friend!

Our TV is around the same size as yours, but it's wall mounted in an alcove so that limits the size. The pay off for freeing up more room though I suppose. We also don't have any other tvs in the house.

I would hate to think someone was judging me for the size of our tv! Hmm

Fizzpopwhizzbang · 13/08/2019 11:25

Mine is 32" and I think it's a great size, but I have had people tell me they think it's very small.

Vilanelle · 13/08/2019 11:27

49" is perfect for us, not garish

PastelPotential · 13/08/2019 11:38

I've just found an Index catalogue from 2005, the majority of tvs for sale were 28/32 inch screens. Presumably no one thought they were tiny then? Just when did they get so large, and why are they always measured in inches rather than cm?

FlorencesHunger · 13/08/2019 11:40

I preferred a 32" tv before as I don't like the look of huge t.v's being a focal point of a room/taking up space. My dd broke the t.v and I borrowed her 22" for over a year. It sat in the corner.

Bought a 2nd hand 43 nch t.v with all the trimmings early this year. It's big enough for me.
