How rude is your friendHmm

Ours is 49" purchased 18m ago, prior to that ours was 37"

FrogFairy · 12/08/2019 21:54

Mine is 32, it is ok though in time I would like to buy a bigger one for the living room and move the 32 to the kitchen. Probably wouldn’t go bigger than 42 though.

Nottodayx · 12/08/2019 21:56

40 inch in living room.

I want a 32 for bedroom

I know people who have 32 inch in living room. I think it’s fine.

HappyDinosaur · 12/08/2019 21:58

Ours is 32 and I love it, its not a cost thing I just think it looks nicer as I'm not a fan of really big tv's. I also don't like tv's in bedrooms, but I understand we all like different things and I wouldn't be rude to a friend about their tv, it's just unkind.

gamesanddaisychains · 12/08/2019 21:58

If you are embarrassed about the size of your tv when new people come over, you could always get a bit superior " I never watch tv, I would rather listen to music, read a book, my social life is so hectic, always busy updating my blog etc (make up anything you like). You shouldn't feel judged on the size of your tv!

Beeseeinya · 12/08/2019 22:00

32 inch here! Living room is 3x3m and it fits lovely in the alcove.
Thought it would bother me but I don't watch that much to make it worth it to have a lovely big screen. Just netflix rubbish.
Depends on the size of room and what you watch.

bridgetreilly · 12/08/2019 22:02

21" here and it's fine. Just tell the friend she needs to book an optician appointment if she's having problems seeing the screen.

Alaimo · 12/08/2019 22:05

32" here. It's fine, wouldn't want a bigger one in our current flat.

MIdgebabe · 12/08/2019 22:05

28 inch here. Only one in the house. Quite fine for us. I prefer smaller to larger. It’s personal preference. Smaller also ( like for like technology) mean less resources and lower energy use , so better for the planet

NannyR · 12/08/2019 22:05

My main tv is 26 inches, I chose a smallish one as it fits neatly on a bookshelf. I don't watch a huge amount of tv and I didn't want it to be the focal point of my lounge.

Michaelbaubles · 12/08/2019 22:05

I have a 32” in a 5m long living room. I don’t watch all that much and it’s not the focal point of the room. It’s absolutely fine for watching anything on! We stayed in an Airbnb with a huge tv and I really hated how much it dominated everything when it was on.

PastelPotential · 12/08/2019 22:10

It's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it.

ImposterSyndrome101 · 12/08/2019 22:11

In my room at home I have a 47' smart TV I got in the sale, in my room at uni I have a 27' smart TV I also got in the sale. I bought what I could afford that fit's the room. Who cares what anyone else is doing or has.

HappyParent2000 · 12/08/2019 22:13

If I had my own way we wouldn’t even have a TV. It’s a pointless device when we all have our own tablets and computers. For some reason my partner wouldn’t go without it.

alliejay81 · 12/08/2019 22:15

I think ours is 40" but until recently we had a 32". Unless your living room is huge 32" is big enough. We got a 40" as a compromise, I wanted a smaller one and DH wanted a bigger one. We both agree we'd rather have a TV that was too small for the room than one that was too big. Huge TVs in tiny spaces look absolutely ridiculous!

MamaFlintstone · 12/08/2019 22:16

Better too small than too large. Huge screens in rooms that aren’t big enough give me a headache!

tashakg89 · 12/08/2019 22:18

Ours is 32 in the living room and is fine!

Carinattheliqorstore1 · 12/08/2019 22:19

Mine is 32. My friend brought her 3 year old over for a play date. He asked her why we had such a small tv.

Then I remembered visiting family and thinking they all have huge TVs: so mine really is small.

Won’t buy a new one til this one breaks though

JaceLancs · 12/08/2019 22:20

32 here
I have a large sitting room but don’t watch much tv and hate it when it dominates the room
DS has 40 inch in his room - but mainly uses for gaming
DP thinks I’m odd because I don’t have a bedroom tv either
If I rarely want to watch something in bed it’s usually catch up tv which I watch on tablet while dozing

PortiaCastis · 12/08/2019 22:21

Why is there a competitive tv size thing going on, you need a new friend not a new tv. My Mum has a massive monstrosity on her lounge wall which she bought because she wanted a bigger screen than her cronies but her lounge looks like the friggin Odeon so I'm not a fan

SouthernComforts · 12/08/2019 22:23

I had a 32" in my living room for years, I upgraded to a 48" and now I realise how small the old one was! It did look tiny when I see it in the background of pics. But it was fine, if you don't have the money spare then don't worry about it!

RushianDisney · 12/08/2019 22:25

Ours is 40 inches I think. Any bigger and it would look odd imo, and we have a large living room. We don't watch a lot of tv and I don't like them taking over the room so I won't be getting anything bigger when we need to replace it. We used to just have a tiny computer monitor plugged into a DVD player, the 'big' tv was a gift from family members who clearly felt sorry for us

BarbedBloom · 12/08/2019 22:26

49, we have a big living room so anything smaller looks a bit weird. The old 32 is now in our bedroom, but have whatever works for you

Teacakeandalatte · 12/08/2019 22:28

Yes as a pp said if she acts judgy go for a condescending I prefer to read a book anyway, we only have TV for the news. Its so bad for the dc development, no?
