I have a 32inch tv in living room,my friend said it's far too small for living room.
Is it? What size tv does everyone else have ?

I hate giant TVs. So ugly.

Asdf12345 · 12/08/2019 22:34

We don’t have a tv. Haven’t had one for twelve years.

Smidge001 · 12/08/2019 22:36

Mine is 32 inch and is beginning to need replacing (doesn't have an hdmi slot). I'm seriously considering going smaller! I think those white compter monitor screens look so neat. I hate a living room being dominated by the TV, mine is small being a victorian terrace. And anyway I watch as much TV on my phone as I do on the TV itself, so if I'm happy with a 5inch screen, surely a 32 inch is mahoosive Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 12/08/2019 22:36

I've got a 32" I think. Seeing as I'm sitting in the same room as it, not 20 metres away in tiered seating, it seems perfectly good enough.

A friend has some 60" (maybe bigger) monstrosity in her house and it feels like I need to watch from the garden because it's so bloody massively

Stationeryqueen · 12/08/2019 22:38

Ours is 32", it needs replacing, but there doesn't seem to be much choice in the 32" range so putting it off.

It needs to fit a specific alcove, we don't watch much TV, and the space is awkward as it needs to fit around various HiFi things, network systems, speakers and amplifiers. DP is a HiFi geek & I don't really care.

Allli · 12/08/2019 22:45

32”. It’s 8feet away from the couch in my tiny living room. Could possibly get slightly bigger but nothing too large as my room is too small! My priority next time is a smart one. Don’t care about the screen size much at all.

Elefant1 · 12/08/2019 22:45

Mine is 32 and too big I think, exh got it over 10 years ago, I was happy with our old smaller TV. When this one breaks I will buy smaller, I don't like TVs taking over a room.

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/08/2019 22:45

My father bought himself a 75 inch monstrosity and decided to put his old 60 inch TV in my flat (I was living overseas at the time). It was nice of him but the TV is just too big and dominates the whole room.

But I can't get rid of it as he'd be upset. I much prefer my less domineering 42 inch TV that I brought back from living overseas. That now has to live in the bedroom. I'm waiting hopefully for my Dad's old TV to die and I can get rid of it.

I think your friend was rather rude OP. A 32 inch TV is fine. Have whatever size TV you want and tell your friend to mind her own business.

aLilNonnyMouse · 12/08/2019 22:47

I have a 50 inch in a relatively small living room. At times it feels way to small and I want to replace it with a 65inch. 32 seems tiny.

alittleprivacy · 12/08/2019 22:53

My living room is 22ft*22ft and the 32" looks just fine in it. Fine to watch and in no way dominates the room. (DS's toys do that.)

StormcloakNord · 12/08/2019 23:01

65" in the living room & 49" in the bedroom.

I'm a sucker for a fancy TV Blush

pigsDOfly · 12/08/2019 23:19

Mines 32" and it's fine.

I can't stand the idea of some bloody great big screen stuck halfway across one wall in the living room dominating the room.

Having said that, television isn't something I've ever been that fussed about. I've never had one in the bedroom nor in the children's bedroom when they were growing up.

Your friend's opinion isn't important. It's what you're happy with in your own home that's important.

Which have a calculator:

www.which.co.uk/reviews/televisions/article/what-size-tv-should-i-buy/what-size-tv-should-i-buy

However I remember when the same calculator came up with much smaller sizes for the distance.

Its up to you. What do you want and what can you afford? Its nobody else's business and pretty rude to comment on it.

yogafailure · 12/08/2019 23:24

I think ours is 32 inch couldn't tell you and it's big enough thanks. I hate huge TVs and prefer huge bookcases 🤣 I don't like when the focal point of a room is a screen. Christ I'm starring to sound like my mother 🙈

CharlesLeeRay · 12/08/2019 23:29

My 32inch looks fine in my living room, but my living room is fairly small 🤷‍♀️

CharlesLeeRay · 12/08/2019 23:33

Which tells me I need a slightly bigger TV for my bedroom (I only have 19/20 inch) but 32 inch is perfect for my viewing distance in the living room!

AppleKatie · 12/08/2019 23:35

Mines 28inch and I’ve been thinking of upgrading to 32 because I thought the old one was a bit small- although I bought it 12 years ago because it was big 🤣

It seems im wildly unambitious on the tv front.

Mammyloveswine · 12/08/2019 23:37

32 is fine... I think it's ridiculous the size of tvs!!

notacooldad · 12/08/2019 23:39

Ours is 32 and us just fine.
I think the tv was on last Tuesday so it's not a big deal for us but I wouldnt want to be without one again.
I dislike TVs that dominate a room.

Drpeppered · 12/08/2019 23:41

We have a 42inch. Any bigger and it wouldn’t fit in the alcove. Wouldn’t mind bigger but don’t particilarly want to put it on the wall

AquaPris · 12/08/2019 23:41

If you like it you like it. 43+ is about minimum

scaryteacher · 12/08/2019 23:43

24 inch here in a biggish room, but I don't want or need a bigger one. It's not the focus of the room if it's smaller.

NCpreggo · 12/08/2019 23:45

Sounds fine. Big tvs usually look a bit ridiculous anyway and can take over the room.

RubbingHimSourly · 12/08/2019 23:46

Ours is 32 inch and that's big enough.....,..I judge the neighbors who have 2, huge TVs in their living room. They must be at least 50 inches each, a TV in their dining room, one in the kitchen. And a huge one in each bedroom. (( Never been in there but I did have a nosy stalk on Rightmove )) Wink
