DH made a woman cry - wtf

Cars park on our street and it's a free for all. We noticed a car parked behind ours with a flat tyre on friday. DH has been going on about it. Today as we were going to our car he saw a woman walking to it and said "oh is this yours? Thought it was abandoned." She looked startled and said no ... why. He said because it had a flat tyre and she said something like oh, it'll be ok. Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly. She looked uncomfortable, then started crying, got in it and drove off.

Can you drive with a flat? Like, how flat? If it was flat on Friday I would expect it would be a pancake by now... Also, why did she cry??

CaravanHero · 30/06/2019 15:19

Probably skint and can’t fix it.

When I was in that position I’d have cried at some bloke ‘laughing loudly’ at me too.

parkedonthestreet · 30/06/2019 15:19

I don't know why she cried. It wasn't completely flat - deflated but not all the way.

Maybe your husband could learn to just leave people alone?

ProteinshakesandAntonsbum · 30/06/2019 15:19

I dont know how to answer that. Or vote?

How are you being unreasonable?

araiwa · 30/06/2019 15:19

What?

Wtf crying? Why?

PotteringAlong · 30/06/2019 15:19

I’m not sure what you’re asking? The car won’t be ok to drive on a flat tyre; she’s knackered her wheel rim.

Bloodymary · 30/06/2019 15:20

She drove off with a flat tyre!!!

Sexnotgender · 30/06/2019 15:20

Sounds like she was having a rough day and he patronised her. Is he usually so insensitive?

LaurieFairyCake · 30/06/2019 15:20

That's not great

Total knob tbh

MrsBosh · 30/06/2019 15:20

Depends how he spoke to her. How would you say he came across?

Sparklingbrook · 30/06/2019 15:20

How do we vote on that? Confused YABU to post this in AIBU topic.

mindutopia · 30/06/2019 15:21

He could have just offered to help her change it.

herculepoirot2 · 30/06/2019 15:21

Your husband was rude and condescending.

araiwa · 30/06/2019 15:21

Driving with a flat is very dangerous

Dh was doing his civic duty warning her

No idea about crying but she was unreasonable if she drove away on a flat

ProteinshakesandAntonsbum · 30/06/2019 15:21

Ahe didnt drive if with a flat tyre. It was deflated. I am sure she would have driven to pump it up. Or just wanted to get away from the bloke taking the piss.

Pipandmum · 30/06/2019 15:21

I don’t understand - she said the car wasn’t hers and then got in and drive off with a flat tire? Because of what your husband said? Why did he laugh? It was an odd thing for him to do. And who knows why she started to cry - maybe she was already upset and your husband’s (aggressive? Sarcastic?) comment just sent her over the top.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 30/06/2019 15:21

Your DH shouldn't have repeated what she said or laughed at her. Last time my car had a flat tyre I was having a shitty time generally, was exhausted from a week of stressing about a voluntary event, work had been crap and I had my grandmother's funeral to attend. I would not have coped with being laughed at.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 30/06/2019 15:22

She cried because she was publicly mocked by an unknown man.

I suspect she felt both humiliated and intimidated.

lottiegarbanzo · 30/06/2019 15:22

I don't think your DH should go around antagonising people. He sounds like a curtain-twitching busybody.

Would he have behaved in the same way towards a bloke?

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/06/2019 15:22

What is your question ?

parkedonthestreet · 30/06/2019 15:22

don't post then sparkling

BishopofBathandWells · 30/06/2019 15:22

Sounds like she was having a bad day. Maybe she was embarrassed about the state of the car. In any case, I think your DH was a bit rude.

Pinkfinkle · 30/06/2019 15:23

She was probably already having a rough day and your husband took her by surprise. Did sound like he was a touch condescending.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 30/06/2019 15:23

Why do men think that loud laugh and belittling crap makes them look anything other than a twat.

She did seem to overreact but who knows where she was coming form that day , maybe she's skint ,maybe there's something going on.

But yeah your DH being a knob and trying to make her feel small won't have helped

Tell him to butt out
