DH made a woman cry - wtf

Cars park on our street and it's a free for all. We noticed a car parked behind ours with a flat tyre on friday. DH has been going on about it. Today as we were going to our car he saw a woman walking to it and said "oh is this yours? Thought it was abandoned." She looked startled and said no ... why. He said because it had a flat tyre and she said something like oh, it'll be ok. Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly. She looked uncomfortable, then started crying, got in it and drove off.

You have no idea what was going on in her life. She may have just been made redundant. Her mum may have just died. And then -lo and behold-your husband took the piss outofher flat tyre. Nice one.

Chloemol · 01/07/2019 19:20

Wouldn’t it have been much nicer of your husband to offer to change the tyre or help her instead of taking the piss? How would he feel towards someone if they made you cry?

Spidey66 · 01/07/2019 19:22

out of her

Speakercube · 01/07/2019 19:29

Maybe she felt a bit deflated...think he let himself down...Grin

Historydweeb · 01/07/2019 19:32

For all he knows her mother could have just died (or whatever) maybe that was the final straw.
Maybe he could do with removing his beak. Unless he owns the entire road. Sounds like a prize prick

YumyumAndyum · 01/07/2019 19:40

Shudder at thought of being married to a man like this
I really feel for you OP, awful man

YouTheCat · 01/07/2019 19:41

Does he have a flat cap and announce 'Only me!'?

GabsAlot · 01/07/2019 19:58

not flat at all then just deflated-so hes an even bigger prick then

Bluntness100 · 01/07/2019 20:03

How odd. What's the question, did the op forget to ask it? And who laughs at someone like this, as her husband did, other than a total knobhead. My husband, myself, and everyone I know. Would have offered her some help.

Feelingpoorlysick · 01/07/2019 20:05

My husband would have offered to help sort it, yours on the other hand sounds like a dick.

sleepynewmumxo · 01/07/2019 20:07

Maybe she just had some bad news? Or maybe she was just a bit fucking hormonal. Either way, was it REALLY worth your husband being a dick? I'd have gotten second hand embarrassment.

vintanner · 01/07/2019 20:13

Your husband sounds like a bully.

Kath246 · 01/07/2019 20:17

Your husband is a shithole but why can't you see that????

Ilfie · 01/07/2019 20:25

Sorry, think he was being unnecessarily cruel and unpleasant, my husband isn’t particularly woman/tolerant/friendly but he wouldn’t have made a comment like that! Thank goodness

Belenus · 01/07/2019 20:29

She didn't need help. How patronising.

Whether or not someone needs help, it's generally kind to offer. Patronising to assume they need it, yes, but kind to offer.

Ilfie · 01/07/2019 20:59

Thinking about it further, husband would definitely have made an offer to change the tyre, he’s done it in past for various people/ old/seeing women to struggle doing it on their own and teenagers with no idea - think it’s part of being a decent person

skyblu · 01/07/2019 21:05

Err....maybe she had other stuff going on and your husbands approach caught her off guard.

Not everything is as straight forward as face value.

Just let it be!

No need to take to the internet and ask complete strangers to vote on the situation, jeez.

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 01/07/2019 21:10

He was a nasty patronising bullying prick.

Wasafatmum42 · 01/07/2019 22:27

sometimes it only takes one sarcastic comment or laugh to push someone on the verge of a mental breakdown OP I think your husband was very insensitive , not an ace moment for both of you just in case you were expecting a clever you from us WOMEN

manicmij · 01/07/2019 22:57

Perhaps your DH could have asked if she was okay with a spare as the tyre looked as if it could have a puncture or maybe just need blown up. No laughing though, that was male chauvinist behaviour.

Justgorgeous · 01/07/2019 23:36

What is your AIBU here ? Bizarre.

annikin · 01/07/2019 23:43

Your dh was very rude and unnecessarily unkind. He could have always offered to help, but no, easier to be nasty. Would he have behaved like that to a man? I very much doubt it.

Roselisa16 · 01/07/2019 23:58

You don’t know what this woman is going through in her personal life. Haven’t you ever had it where your trying to cope with a thousand things or trying to hold it together after having a bad day or week then one slight thing can make you break down? Poor woman although your husband wouldn’t of meant to upset her maybe he should of apologised when he did.

expat101 · 02/07/2019 04:15

I'm not sure if you post was angling for a reply, however, I will say hindsight is wonderful, but I think we all know our partners well enough to help them get themselves out of a hole when they have dug one.

A good save would have been OP for you to have piped up, do you need a hand to change it? And then offered his services...!

Aprillygirl · 02/07/2019 04:31

Your husband is a bitch. How embarrassing for you. I bet he wouldn't have acted like that if the car had belonged to a man. Coward! He must be really bored too, if all he has to concern himself with is the state of a stranger's tyres. I think a hobby would be good for him preferably a dangerous one
