DH made a woman cry - wtf

Cars park on our street and it's a free for all. We noticed a car parked behind ours with a flat tyre on friday. DH has been going on about it. Today as we were going to our car he saw a woman walking to it and said "oh is this yours? Thought it was abandoned." She looked startled and said no ... why. He said because it had a flat tyre and she said something like oh, it'll be ok. Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly. She looked uncomfortable, then started crying, got in it and drove off.

If he was being helpful and informative he'd just have said 'you know you have a flat?' nicely. None of that shit about the car being abandoned.

GabriellaMontez · 30/06/2019 15:23

Was it totally flat or just needed a bit of air in?

Why was he laughing? Laughing at her ? Or just some sort of weird uncomfortable laughter? Hard to tell without hearing his tone. Is he normally a bell end?

Blueemeraldagain · 30/06/2019 15:23

Sounds 50/50 to me. His reaction was a bit over the top but it wouldn’t have made me or any women I know cry unless we were having seriously rough time.

I have sympathy if she can’t afford to get the tyre fixed/replaced and has to drive somewhere but she is putting herself, other road users and pedestrians in danger so I wouldn’t blame someone for calling her out, however perhaps not in the way your husband did.

ProteinshakesandAntonsbum · 30/06/2019 15:24

parkedonthestreet if you explain why you think you may have been unreasonable, then people could vote.

sandragreen · 30/06/2019 15:24

What is your AIBU? I don't understand.

Your DH sounds horrible.

LauderSyme · 30/06/2019 15:24

Is your wtf about the woman crying or your rude husband?

parkedonthestreet · 30/06/2019 15:25

Just needed some air, I think. Sorry, bit distracted as I got some bad news just after I posted ... I didn't realise I turned votes on.

I agree with sparkling, how are we supposed to vote?

Not sure why she started crying, bit of an overreaction. But why was he mocking her like a child?

John470322 · 30/06/2019 15:25

I know that I am being sexist but why did he not offer to help her change the wheel. Sometimes it needs a fair bit of strength to get the wheelnuts undone. on my opinion he was out of order.

aPengTing · 30/06/2019 15:26

What’s the AIBU? Not sure what your asking us to vote on.

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 15:26

Would your husband have said the same to a 6ft bloke? I doubt it. He sounds like a knob.

aPengTing · 30/06/2019 15:27

I am sorry for that. But if that's the case then you can surely understand why this woman may have acted in a way you didnt expect?

She may have had bad news or anything could have happened.

araiwa · 30/06/2019 15:27

A man told me i had a flat once

I thanked him for telling me

Bursting in to tears is her problem not dh

AbbyHammond · 30/06/2019 15:28

Your husband was being a dick by the sounds of it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/06/2019 15:28

I'm really not sure what you're asking, or even what exactly happennedConfused

InsertFunnyUsername · 30/06/2019 15:29

He's either a bully boy, or she's having a bad day and that was tip of the iceberg, we've all been there.

Or both.

What was his reaction after?

LL83 · 30/06/2019 15:30

I dont know what the question is. Guess it is annoying if she parked poorly. Would be disappointed if it was my dh.

Iamtheworst · 30/06/2019 15:31

Surely it’s thinking it was abandoned cause it’s been there 2 days that made her cry at his subtle dig that he likes the area round his castle free from unknown cars. It’s a xouple days, hardly months, maybe she has been trying to get it sorted. Maybe she just didn’t need challenged about legally parking her car.

Sarcelle · 30/06/2019 15:31

Maybe she already has a condescending twat in her life, and then some random treating her the same way pushed her over the edge.

ABoozedMoose · 30/06/2019 15:32

Mimicking her and laughing at her? He sounds like such a catch.

nicecuppaforme · 30/06/2019 15:32

Your husband doesn't sound very nice, why was he making fun of someone he doesn't know? I bet he wouldn't have done it to a man.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 30/06/2019 15:32

Your husband doesn’t sound very nice, why did he comment in the first place? It was none of his business

minisoksmakehardwork · 30/06/2019 15:33

Perhaps he could have been kinder, asked if she had a pump or maybe offered her his to inflate it.

It does sound like he was being a bit dickish by repeating her and laughing loudly. I think I would have been uncomfortable too.

As for the tears, none of us know what had happened prior to her encounter with your dh and she might already have been upset, therefore the tears might not be related to the flat tyre/your husband.

teyem · 30/06/2019 15:33

Why the fuck would he think the car was abandoned because it hadn't moved after only two days? Just weird. And then reacting her and laughing - what a passive aggressive dick.

This woman may have been unreasonable for driving with a tyre that needs more air in but, fuck me, you have to live with your DH day in and day out - rather you than me.
