DH made a woman cry - wtf

parkedonthestreet · 30/06/2019 15:17

Cars park on our street and it's a free for all. We noticed a car parked behind ours with a flat tyre on friday. DH has been going on about it. Today as we were going to our car he saw a woman walking to it and said "oh is this yours? Thought it was abandoned." She looked startled and said no ... why. He said because it had a flat tyre and she said something like oh, it'll be ok. Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly. She looked uncomfortable, then started crying, got in it and drove off.

OP posts:

Are you asking if the woman reacted badly or if your husband was a dick??

SnuggyBuggy · 30/06/2019 16:46

OP what are hoping to get out of this thread?

yulet · 30/06/2019 16:46

Your dh sounds like an arse. Lucky you.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 30/06/2019 16:49

Sounds like he tried to degrade her and did a good job of it. You don’t know what people are going through and being deliberately mean to someone isn’t a good or nice thing to do.

For all anyone knows she’s having a really bad day and his comment was the final straw.

LittleWalnutTree · 30/06/2019 16:50

Downright nasty. My dh would have offered to help someone with a flat tyre, not laugh at them.

bodgeitandscarper · 30/06/2019 16:50

What an utter arse your husband sounds. I feel sorry for the woman, probably having a shit time and then an arrogant condescending twat can't keep his mouth shut. I would have gone through him like a dose of salts with his childish behaviour. What a gent - not.

BenWillbondsPants · 30/06/2019 16:54

Fucking hell. My DH would have offered to help her. Yours sounds like a right tool.

Ellisandra · 30/06/2019 16:54

Your husband is a fucking arsehole.
What was your IABU?

ChilliAndRiceIsVeryNice · 30/06/2019 16:56

I voted YABU because YABU to have posted this in AIBU, with a poll added, while giving so little usable info.

TheGodmother · 30/06/2019 16:56

She cried because she was publicly mocked by an unknown man.
*
I suspect she felt both humiliated and intimidated.*

This ^

I bet your big brave dh wouldn't have spoken to another man like that.

What a fucking wanker, that poor woman.

TSSDNCOP · 30/06/2019 16:58

She cried. He was a wanker. Also very lucky.

I’d have given it to him with both barrels.

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/06/2019 16:58

A car was parked (presumably legally) on the street you live on.

Why was your dh going on about it

Has he got too much time on his hands.

I wonder if he would have said that to a man

akmum18 · 30/06/2019 16:58

Why is your husband obsessed over the condition of other people’s cars? Enough to notice the owner and belittle her? He sounds like a bellend who needs to grow up and mind his business

Allhailthesun · 30/06/2019 16:59

AcrossthePond55
Most of our towns, cities and housing estates have much narrower roads than you are used to in the states. We are also more packed in. Parking is usually always an issue unless you live somewhere fairly remote.

BeardyButton · 30/06/2019 17:02

Does he also make wairesses cry? What funny joke inspired his laughter? Her reaction is not the most important thing here. His condescending ridicule is. Sounds like he needs a joke book.

nespressowoo · 30/06/2019 17:04

What a tosser. LTB

Why did he laugh at her? Why didn't he offer to help her change it? Why have you posted this? You don't know what frame of mind she was in. He sounds like a real gentleman...

LeslieKnopeforPM · 30/06/2019 17:05

Are you posting this as a cry for help?

Your husband sounds like a prize twat. If he speaks that way to complete strangers how does he speak to you?

BuildBuildings · 30/06/2019 17:07

Is your dh normally rude and passive aggressive towards strangers? What did this have to do with him?

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/06/2019 17:09

Dh was doing his civic duty warning her

No he's wasn't. He didn't warn her. He laughed at her. What a nasty man!

Why would you want to be married to a prick like this?

MerryBerryCheesecake · 30/06/2019 17:10

Territorialism, mockery and sneery laughter.

No need for that sort of behaviour from a grown man.

Hadalifeonce · 30/06/2019 17:11

Am I missing something? I read it than when ha asked her if it was her car she said no.

plattercake · 30/06/2019 17:11

What a horrible sneering arsehole he is. Poor woman.

No wonder she just wanted to get away. She probably stopped round the corner and looked at it.

Decormad38 · 30/06/2019 17:12

My DH would have offered to help. I just know he would. I feel more sorry for you than her tbh!

Rezie · 30/06/2019 17:13

Sounds like she had something going on. Stranger pointing something additionally bad was what pushed her yo the edge.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 30/06/2019 17:13

OP I hope this thread has opened your eyes. Like a PP said you've probably been on the receiving end of this sort of behaviour for years now and you've become used to it and you think it's normal. It's not. It's unkind and unnecessary.

What kind thing has your DH done for you today?
