DH made a woman cry - wtf

Cars park on our street and it's a free for all. We noticed a car parked behind ours with a flat tyre on friday. DH has been going on about it. Today as we were going to our car he saw a woman walking to it and said "oh is this yours? Thought it was abandoned." She looked startled and said no ... why. He said because it had a flat tyre and she said something like oh, it'll be ok. Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly. She looked uncomfortable, then started crying, got in it and drove off.

Who knows what kind of day she had had and your dh being a horrible prick was probably the straw. He could have offered help but no, decided to be a twat.

Saucery · 30/06/2019 15:35

Sounds like she wanted to get away from the weird man who stated the bleeding obvious and mocked the fact she had a flat tyre. Probably drove round the corner where she felt safer and dealt with the tyre there.

PotsOfJoy · 30/06/2019 15:35

Your husband sounds like a window twitching bog brush 🖕

Picklypickles · 30/06/2019 15:35

I had a flat a few months back when I was at my weekly slimming world group, my friend left early and noticed it on the way to her car and then pumped it up for me like a normal and decent human being. What exactly was your husband hoping to achieve with his sarcastic and snippy remarks?

Floralnomad · 30/06/2019 15:35

Why has your husband been going on about it since Friday ? I cannot understand why she burst into tears however your husband sounds like a delight .

sincethereis · 30/06/2019 15:36

I don’t agree that your husband was being a twat at all.

I also don’t get why she cried. Seems at but OTT.

Sometimes we laugh just to laugh rather than because we find something funny or to be mean

EleanorReally · 30/06/2019 15:36

how mean does your dh sound, condescending blokish behaviour

overnightangel · 30/06/2019 15:36

What a lovely bloke he sounds like Confused

caughtinanet · 30/06/2019 15:36

I'm not getting the voting either - what are we supposed to do?

RonnieScotts · 30/06/2019 15:38

It sounds like his condescending unhelpfulness caught her at a moment when she needed a little compassion.

Isn't it shit when you cross paths with a total dick when you least expect it?

JacquesHammer · 30/06/2019 15:38

Your husband repeated what she said and laughed at her? Is he 12?!

It would have been nice to say “did you know you’ve got a flat tyre, do you need any help?”

Aragog · 30/06/2019 15:40

Dh repeated it'll be ok and laughed loudly.

Why did your DH do this? Sounds very belittling behaviour and as if he was trying to embarrass, patronise or upset her. Not very pleasant behaviour form him.

Why did she cry? Who knows - bad day? already feeling upset or stressed and your dh's patronising behaviour pushed her over the edge? embarrassed and/or humiliated? You dh didn't exactly help did he?

Sunshine93 · 30/06/2019 15:40

Why do men think that loud laugh and belittling crap makes them look anything other than a twat

All men don't think the same. My DH doesn't think this and would never do this. He also wouldn't know how to change a tyre. He is still a man!

Ok I voted YABU because I think your DH was a bit rude and ok think you are asking whether the woman overreacted.

Sometimes a rudeness like that can just tip you over the edge on a bad day.

Cassort · 30/06/2019 15:40

Is your DH in the habit of policing the local streets?

RelaisBlu · 30/06/2019 15:42

No one likes to be laughed at

Fatasfooook · 30/06/2019 15:43

Bet your DH voted leave

SnuggyBuggy · 30/06/2019 15:43

Imitating and laughing at someone isn't usually appreciated

LannieDuck · 30/06/2019 15:45

Why did he repeat what she said - was he mocking her?

And then he laughed at her? Why?

Youcanstay · 30/06/2019 15:45

You’re husband was awful.
Why was he so rude to the lady?

Dh was doing his civic duty warning her But he wasn’t warning her though, was he? He made a passive aggressive comment about thinking that the car had been abandoned (having been there only a couple of days) before laughing at her assertion that it would be ok. Warning her would be along the lines of ‘Did you realise you had a flat tyre’? Or ‘Have you got a pump/spare? We can help you change it’ depending on how helpful he was feeling.

Yanbu to think wtf. In your position, I’d be wondering whether he would have said anything if it had been a big burly bloke who had walked towards the car. Just so I knew whether I was married to a garden variety twat or a bullying twat.

Impatienceismyvirtue · 30/06/2019 15:49

Why did he repeat what she said - was he mocking her?

And then he laughed at her? Why?

Exactly this.

PCohle · 30/06/2019 15:49

Your husband was being a dick.

The poor woman probably felt flustered and mocked and didn't have the experience (or money) to cope with a flat.

Hadalifeonce · 30/06/2019 15:51

I thought I read it that he asked if it was hers, she said no, it'll be OK.
OP's DH laughed at the remark and repeated it, probably because it won't be OK.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 30/06/2019 15:51

I hope you asked him if he would have used the same language with a man twice his size? He obviously wouldn't. Twat
