To ask is going to be next Tory leader?

Surely we are not going to end up with Boris - apparently the bookies’ favourite Shock.

And if we do end up with Boris or someone as awful, what do you think that will then lead to? A no deal Brexit? A General Election?

I think the forthcoming political crisis might be worse than what we have yet seen. And I am not looking forward to the gruesome sight of the Tory leadership contest.

Arrogant and entitled.

Aargh

To ask who is going to be next Tory leader.

I doubt it...don't forget the EU election results will have a bearing on whether there's a public appetite for a GE so it's not just up to the new PM.

I agree. There seems to be no end to this nightmare.
Unless he shoots himself in the foot - always a strong possibility - I think Johnson will be the next leader of the Conservative. (I don't like calling him Boris, it makes him sound like a faithful old teddy, nice and cuddly, which he definitely is not.)

Desolate1 · 24/05/2019 23:18

I think Johnson will be the next leader of the Conservative.

Just how have we got to this point?

There is no way in which he is not appalling.

I just hope that it galvanises everyone else in Parliament into some serious action.

Christ.

I cannot bear the idea of any of them frankly and BJ is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. The only Tory to have cocked up more than him is Failing Grayling.

Desolate1 · 24/05/2019 23:23

No I agree - a motley crew of unpleasantness they are. Any more reasonable Tory who might exist either wouldn’t want the job, or isn’t nasty enough for the machinations involved.

The only good thing is, if Johnson gets it, the UK and US will have leaders called Blow Job and Fart.

GoFiguire · 24/05/2019 23:25

Tory Burch.

swissmilk · 24/05/2019 23:26

Great....if Boris gets in we really will be the laughing stock of the world....even my American friends joke about our little Trump wanna-be

thethethethethe · 24/05/2019 23:26

Johnson and No Deal. If there is a general election, maybe a deal between Johnson and Farage. Farage could be deputy PM or even PM. The UK will be trashed for the profit of the US far right.

MorrisZapp · 24/05/2019 23:28

May basically said 'good luck with that' in her speech didn't she. It's an impossible job. This is where Parliament ought to be grown up enough to install sensible caretakers but of course they can't because everyone's so feverishly partisan.

So we have to endure another leadership race and possible GE.

Tavannach · 24/05/2019 23:28

I don't know all that much about him really but if I had to pick someone I'd pick Rory Stewart.

Desolate1 · 24/05/2019 23:28

Johnson and Farage. Farage could be deputy PM or even PM.

[faints]

Wouldn’t Farage have to be an MP for this to be possible?

The results of the European elections will be a indicator of which way they go.

Despite all the noises made by us remainers, including marches, I think the Brexit party are going to do really well sadly, which will influence this

MissEliza · 25/05/2019 00:05

@Tavannach Rory Stewart is a very intelligent politician but I fear too good for the political scene we have today. I always love listening to him being interviewed, He's very thoughtful and genuine. Unfortunately these qualities don't get you far at the moment.

Yes, I was just having a look at his website and his Wikipedia. Took a while to read through all his achievements! He does seem more aware than most, and has led a very interesting life.

If I was a Conservative MP or member of the Conservative Party he would definitely get my vote for leader.

thethethethethe · 25/05/2019 09:23

Obviously, Farage would need to win a seat at the next general election. Shouldn't be too difficult for him.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 25/05/2019 09:25

I had a ten pound bet about a year ago that it would be Boris. Not that I want it to be him, but it still will be, because he's an arsehole and we have a history of choosing absolute tosspots to put in charge.

PositiveVibez · 25/05/2019 09:30

we have a history of choosing absolute tosspots to put in charge

We don't get to choose though do we. We never chose Theresa May and we aren't choosing Boris Johnson.

How on earth have we got here?

Pmease stop the world. I want to get off.

PositiveVibez · 25/05/2019 09:30

*please

ForalltheSaints · 25/05/2019 09:34

If he is one of the two names put to the Tory members it will be Boris Johnson. Which will make this country even more of an international embarrassment, and mean Brexit with no deal is more likely.

HappydaysArehere · 25/05/2019 09:37

Rory Stewart would also get our vote as well. He is an ex soldier, an expert on the Middle East and always displays intelligence on the political scene. Also, he is extremely likeable and non egotistical.
However, I have just posted a rant on Johnson on the politics site as I read this morning in the Independent that he states he is going to crash us out of the EU on the 29th October if he doesn’t get us a deal. He believes all those countries will roll over and give us a great deal! Also, there is an ongoing court case which accuses Johnson of lying about the so called £350 million a week we are supposed to be giving the EU.

Desolate1 · 25/05/2019 09:59

He hasn’t managed it in the past.

Maybe Brexit fervour will vote him in.

Lovely.

I think Boris will lead the conservatives next. But Frankly as long as it’s not Jeremy and his vile lefty party I don’t care.

Ronsters · 25/05/2019 10:13

I think it will be Boris,or maybe Raab.
